How did CWC online started

It is very interesting to read the new tread of certain dealers and wholesalers who would like the world to stop supplying CRC and other online shops with certain products. Let me tell you how Chris jnr started CWC online 3 years ago.

 

Chris jnr got the opportunity to tender on a deal for 18 group sets. I called the local importer/wholesaler and asked him for a deal on 20 group sets. His answer to me was that he cant give me a better deal than normal because our account is not as big as my opposition around the corner and he did bot want to upset him.

 

I told Chris jnr that it is a no go for us and he was not happy at all and said that he is going to contact one of our friends in Italy,[ ex world champion ] and ask him to help us find someone that can give us a good deal. Two days later we done a deal and 5 days later we had 20 Dura Ace group sets in SA.

 

Thats when Chris jnr decided to start his CWC online store. Yes, we had plenty drama with most of the wholesalers in SA and abroad. Our account was closed at CW cycles retail by certain wholesalers. We were summons and appeared in court - you will remember the Mavic drama - but we won that case ect ect.

 

Dealers tried to convince certain wholesalers not to supply us - we all know about the current investigations by the commission.

 

Today , most of those wholesalers that closed our accounts are now supplying us with stock because they realize that online is here to stay.

 

Lastly but not the least I would like to thank all the dealers that tried to convince certain wholesalers not to supply us, because they helped us getting new suppliers of goods all over the world by forcing us to seek our stock abroad. To day I can assure you that although certain items have official agents in SA , our online store get certain items directly from the supplier / manufacturer abroad because of the volume that CWC online is buying.

(even though I didn't get the CWC kit I was offered or a better price on some Assos )

 

Living in the Southern Suburbs makes it difficult to get to the store often, but it's always an experience when I do manage to pop in.

(mostly when the missus drags me along for retail therapy at Tygervalley )

Hi at this stage we don't sell bikes but should you need a good deal then do not hesitate to contact us. I will make sure that retail give you all the best deal in SA

What CWC needs to start doing now is looking at postage. make deals with couriers etc so that shipping is free, or if thats not possible, make it free after a certain amount is spent at CWC,just as CRC, Evans, and other overseas players do...

Whilst I have not had the opportunity to support your ONLINE store yet (I am busy supporting ONLINE camera stores at the moment !-ouch) I will be doing so in the near future.

 

I am going to do this for this one reason only (even if your particular product price is slightly more than CRC), and that is that you guys have done what any sane LBS or Cycle Chain group in SA should have done long ago! That is to realise that ONLINE is here to stay, and you have moved with the times.

That is the kind of LOCAL I will support.

I agree, well done Chris and the CWC team

 

If I am looking for anything, I generally phone around to see who has the best prices. If your online store doesn't have it, your retail store does, which is great The prices might be more with some items but it adds up to less than what I would have spent on petrol to get to the other shop (coming from Wellington).

 

Keep up the great work and your carpets will definitely be dirtied by my shoes in the future
