Reading all this REALLY grates me!!!!!!!

On the CSA website Mr Lemmer has said that the rider safety is of the utmost importance, why cant he just say WE MESSED UP AND DID NOT DO PROPPER RESEARCH of the route and the venue, and then taking a cheap shot saying that he will not stand for another cyclist's death due to a motorist.

I did not ride this year..... Although I sent a mail to the CSA to please inform us on the dates and routes ect. this was on the 29th of November.... The routes were eventually posted on the 22nd of December. 40Days to go.....

I am from Klerksdorp and although I did not partake in the organisation of the champs it was excellantly organised. The surrounding suberbs were informed personally and fliers were deliverd by hand to make sure all the residents knew what was happening. The routs and profiles with guest house information were on the sachamps website in November.........???

Now the CSA want to rearrange cycling in South Africa with new groups and seedings to bring cycling up to european standards......

I cannot complain about the event as I am not there but reading all the comments makes me wonder about the new improved CSA.....

It seems CSA had to fork out a high price today for a crash course in event organisation... They cannot afford to slip up like this at a National Championships. Guess who is sitting with egg on their faces today. I cannot help feeling sorry for them, though...

ok, so help me here.

why not just have a revolt ? is it so tricky to just stop your payments to CSA ?

In reality how hard is it to just stop supporting them ?

I am not trying to be facetious as I am not a part of the CSA thing - but how hard is it to force change on them ?

Living in PE... how hard was it for EP Cycling's ppl to anticipate what to expect and organise it properly? They only thought about traffic the day before the race? Pathetic... Ever seen this happened at IronMan?

Tomorrow it's exactly a year ago (when I was publicly humiliated by them at The Herald's 65km MTB start and sent all the way to the back of the lineup, even though I was one of the favourites to win the race - In the end I still came 3rd by only 35 sec's in the 65km MTB... but who can race after you've been treated like a dog in front of everybody, unfairly... At Tsitsikamma they had a seeding and made sure they called me to the front... pffffttt....) But nobody ever said sorry to me.

Pathetic bunch of Amateurs...

I'm sitting back and enjoying every moment of their destruction and humiliation... The wheel is turning...

So we all have to pay to belong to CSA whether we ae fun riders or serious riders that do SA's... where does our money go? Shocking that they can't even organise SA's...

I'm disgusted!

Glad I am not that good, cause I would have been very pissed off!

With such events, it is not the best, but only they that can afford who participate .... ;)

That is the case for all veteran sports.

Played tennis on "veteran" level as well

But I understand the disappointment for the cyclist there, if you take into account all the sacrifices made by them to be there.

Perhaps in future they should organise a trial run - invite "old toppies from the past" of cycling, to ride the route a few weeks before the SA champs race, and get constructive input about what should be changed or not. These experienced guys will immediately see what can go wrong.. ....

It's disgraceful, why not sent this complaint to people who can make this story a bit bigger and get more attention and therefore get CSA to get their gat in rat

....and the sacrifices in training. Cyclists put ALOT of hours in and event days is what its about...so much more nationals.

such a pity.

Hendrik Lemmer, CyclingSA’s director of road cycling “I want to reiterate that there is no way we as CyclingSA will ever compromise the safety of our cyclists. We are even prepared to go to such extreme measures like cancelling the whole event or move it to another venue if we feel we cannot guarantee the cyclists safety."

“There is no way that we will allow another of our riders to be killed in a car accident" Lemmer added.

So in the numerous months leading up to the event you never considered cyclists safety on this route - i guess the unexpected peak hour traffic in one of SA's bigger cities caught you by complete suprise?

I agree if it wasn't safe for the race to go ahead, change the course for safety reasons... but isn't that something you consider when planning the route - or are we expecting a bit too much from CSA?

ps. just an after thought - if this is how our national championships are organised, no wonder CSA can't get sponsors...

No doubt we will see them on Super Cycling in a few weeks giving us some poor ass excuse. Only wish that the presenters would stop treating them with kid gloves and really tell them what the cycling fraternity think.

 It seems that everything to do with road racing in CSA, of significance, depends on Messrs Lemmers and Austin - Race Planning and Organisation right through National Team selection and training, etc., etc., and eventually to the almost inevitable sending out of apologies and excuses.

But what has gone as it should over the last few years - the 2010 World Champs was a disaster for SA, as was the Commonwealth Games and now the National Champs folowing the same form, so it's apparent that L & A aren't really up to the job, fine gentlemen that they might be!

Isn't there someone in CSA - like a President or Chairman - who can take control of things before SA cycling becomes the laughing stock of the country?
