is there a ideal saddle postion for road racing?

level , slightly up or slightly down?

or does it depend on frame size and saddle height?

or is it just personal taste?

I have found that the best position is with the rails on the underside and the soft bit on the top !!Big%20smile

Also helps to have the "pointy" side facing the front otherwise you will experience serious pain Big%20smile

Officially, flat is best but you can have it slightly forward but not too far as you will find yourself putting too much pressure on the handle bars and your arms and shoulders.

I've never heard of anyone wanting it slightly back, this could be einaWacko

My opinion, pefectly horizontal is best.

mini hijack:

WW you mention about putting too much pressure on handle bars etc. I get the most uncomfortable pain between my shoulder blades after about 80km.. its almost as if I need to extend my neck in order to get some relief... I have never heard any of the guys complain about this but some of the girls I ride with get it too, so much so that they take 2 myprodol's before even starting a race.. Dont want to resort to that...

In your experience, you think this could be related to saddle position or handlebars?  Confused

Or anyone that can give me some advice that has perhaps "been there, done that"  Confused

no backhanded "Its an age thing" comments allowed - I know who you are...LOL

Ok...let me try. Women have boobs, men dont. Do you think that might cause the shoulder pain? I mean if I had to ride with two apples, oranges, watermelons(take your pick) strapped to my chest, I'm sure my shoulders would pain aswell?

Maybe your head is tilted too far back when you ride which means you neck is bent which eventually translates into shoulder pain. My wife had that. Try to keep your neck straighter. Imagine you are looking through the top of your sunglasses not the middle.CAADman2007-11-06 03:43:39
