Besides the extremely embarrassing course of events on Sunday the "Tour" is now in PE today (wind and all).

The way I see it is that the motorists are bitching about road closures etc BUT I must admit that there has been very little in the press etc about the times of road closure and where ! ALGOAFM have been saying that there are too many roads to mention so the public must go onto their site. This is absolute nonsense as not everyone has access to the internet in the first place.

We have the Herald and Ironman down here with no problems at all.The reason for this is that for weeks ahead everyone gets to know the date it is on,the route, what roads will be closed and when. This has not happened with the Tour of South Africa.Hopefully the rest of the TOUR will already have learnt from these mistakes and advertise the route/road closures better and quicker.

This is a fantastic opportunity for cycling and South Africa, let's get it right.

The route takes the riders on the N2 Highway and on the ADDO road with all the trucks and buses.I really hope the planning is better or someone can get hurt on that route.

Hope all goes well this time in PE.

From a fun rider perspective this is my humble opinion. CSA must get on their bikes and learn very fast here. Get media involved on as broad a base as possible for the areas and days to come for the rest of the tour. Community weekly news papers with details, local radio stations, cycle shops, theHub, ..... come on CSA its not that difficult. Much has been said on thehub how badly its gone but we have the power and contacts to change it, if you have contacts with the media use them and lets at least to try and make the TOSA a success. Heads will surely roll afterwards, lets just get the job done first for the greater good of our beloved sport/hobby/....

I heard the interview about stage 2 yesterday. Reason for taking it through centre of Jhb was so that we can showcase our history etc. What a load of bull. You chose the route that is best for the cyclists, not the one that takes them past the most tourist attracations.

I hope the PE section and the rest of the tour goes well, there is a lot of focus local and international on the tour so if there are any more problems it will look bleak for future tours.

Best of luck

Ratty....I disagree. The Tour de France goes through all the nice places in France. So does the Giro.

Small countries like Mauritius have proven many times that with enought RESPECT from the local community you can take cyclist through ANYWHERE without issues.

As for SAFFAS.......the only way those idiots in their cars were going to successfully blocked off was if the national CRICKET or RUGBY team were passing in a parade....Cyclists?....lets go kill them.

All said and done, lets keep this thread positive and focused on stage 3 etc.

I maybe alone here but here goes.....

Above all I wish, safety first to the riders of the TofSA and all the support staff thereof.

But I do not wish the best of luck to the organisers or CSA for the rest of the race. I hope it gets worse in fact and that the whole tour is a monumental f$%^ up. Why?

Beacuse the CSA will always sweep things under the rug and try explain away their ineptness. It sounds harsh but in order for things to change , things have to get worse with this race.

No matter what you believe, there are and never will be any excuses, for what has been a total "cycling" embarassment to the country.
