  1. wow, veeeeeerrrrry nice build there. Looks great. wld love to see this in the flesh some time. you really did it justice and breather new life into this classic. well done dude. how does she ride btw?
  2. You'll have better luck posting this in the Gravity forum. There are a few DH rigs online for under R10k (not sure what a REALLY TIGHT budget is?) XC Haro x3? Wrong geometry IMO. More of a trail bike if anything.
  3. Brilliant!
  4. hahaha, wowow, ripped!
  5. I don't buy this attitude at all. Real people make orders via a website. If they can't service sales efficiently through a website then they're better off not having one, as you can see it's costing them customers. This is 2011 after all, and while they are one of the oldest shops in CT, it's no excuse for poor service. The OP was let down and messed around. The time it took them he could have (and should have) ordered the tyres from CRC, and they's have been at his door in time. Poor service is such a problem in SA. Nobody gives a toss.
  6. snip from mountainbiker.co.za "Gravity-inclined mountain bikers have the opportunity to experience an event with a difference when the Red Bull Urban Assault takes place in Cape Town, on 22 and 23 October 2011. The Urban Assault is a little different to the regular downhill races – riders start two-at-a-time, with the option of choosing who you race against, such as a friend. Two runs provide a second chance to turn the tables on your friend. Starting on Signal Hill in Cape Town, the downhill course on mostly jeep track terrain finishes at the Vista High School in Bo-Kaap. The course design allows room for passing and it is quite fast in places – a prefect opportunity to record your time at the speed trap, with prizes awarded to the fastest riders passing through the speed trap. The course is not difficult although it does involve going down some stairs towards the finish. Race registration takes place on Saturday 22nd October at Action Cycles from noon to 3pm, with race practice from 2pm to 5pm. A short Sunday practice takes place on Sunday 23rd October from 7:30am to 8:30am, and racing begins at 9:30am. For further info and to enter, contact Chris Nixon on 084 777 7802, or email chris@chrisnixon.co.za."
  7. Compared to some of the international ones I've seen I'd agree. The layout of the city bowl doesn't allow for endless amounts of urban downhills. Still, there's at least a 5 to 8 minute run down from the top of Signal hill. Agreed though that most of it is jeep track and bo kaap sections only really begin from the noon gun area. Depending on which route they choose through the top sections I think it could be easy or nasty. I'm just feeling that there's a different energy between a time trial based race and a head on head one. I'm wondering if there's a reason for this decision on their part, like perhaps it gets things done quicker? I'm not really a fan of head on head racing. I prefer the idea of a race against myself. That's my personal preference and of course I have nothing against the 2 x race either. What do you guys who are riding this event think?
  8. Hi guys, just wanting to know your feelings on this being a head on head race rather than a time trial (as the other Red Bull urban races seem to be). Am I wrong to think this changes the style of the comp significantly?
  9. his handlebar is slipping in tthe stem. What does this have to do with the bolts?
  10. Of course fiber/friction paste will work, that's what it's for, to create friction so one doesn't need to over torque. I use it all the time. How will a stem wear out?
  11. Hi Skyler, Get yourself some fiber assembly paste. If you're in CT Revolution has some AFAIK. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=30012
  12. My bad, I misread what you said there re: modulation. Correct they don't modulate well at all. I must be lucky with the DOT5 story as I've got a set on a bike that's not been bled or changed in about 4 years. I'll be checking them though after this news. Thanks for the heads up there. Silly of them to use a fluid that would do this, but then I suppose it sell them seals and there must be some heat/pressure benefit from using DOT5?
  13. Welcome to cycling Dodz. Do yourself a big favour and get a service book like that from Park tools. Start buying your own tools and learn to work on your bike yourself. Bikes are not rocket science to work on. You'll save yourself a lot of money and pain, as I'm yet to find a bike shop that will take the care and attention that my bike needs. I wouldn't dream of letting a bike shop touch anything on my ride especially brakes or suspension. I know it's unrelated to you, but there are specialists out there to handle complex sus services (Yellow saddle etc). Sorry for your pain, but I predict the LBS who butchered your cable will in fact pass the buck or deny it. Let's see, but 5 bucks says you'll be made to shell out. Add: also, if they do promise you anything, be sure to get it in writing. LBS are notorious for saying stuff and not following through.
  14. I know, those are crazy cool
  15. What do you mean "they modulate"? Decent modulation is what you want from a disc brake. Good modulation is where there is a progressive difference in stopping power the harder you pull the lever. Most DB's have good modulation these days. Personally, I'd go with the Formulas. Elegant. But nothing wrong with the Avids. Never had an o-ring eaten by the fluid (same concept as car brakes, which last for ages) and bleeding is just systematic. Follow the instructions and it's easy. I find the Formula brakes more of a pain to bleed actually.
  16. I don't buy this boy's story one bit. I've been in business for too long. This has rat smell all over it. PLUS, the thing Noneking is forgetting, between all the tears and heartache, is that this kid is sitting with a Lexar SD card in the first place....so either there's a rich mommy and daddy (who can also afford snookums his DH bikes and other kit), yet they've failed to teach him to be honourable? If you are a man, you should honour your obligation. You sold this thing, in good faith. You 'allegedly' didn't get the tracking number, so what? Who cares? Life's tough. Make good on your word kid.
  17. Oh my word! I'm totally going to start crying next time the bank asks for my mortgage payment. Noneking, you are admirable. Manchillz, life comes with consequences. You got off easy here. Grow up dude.
  18. Nope the problem is with you actually. Looks like you'll be putting in some extra hours at the shop then kiddo?!
  19. You can't! It's been sent already. You will have to ask your parents for the money, or sell something. It's not Noneking's problem that you don't have his money. You should have sent it registered post. Now you know. Time to man up bro.
  20. It has everything to do with members on this forum, since you utilised this user base to sell your item, thus affecting the credibility of the classifieds section. BUT now here comes the truth! HE POSTED IT!!!! Oh dear, when you'd arranged with the buyer to send it registered. Well then, you have no proof (which is exactly why one uses registered mail). You owe the buyer R500. Go ask you parents for the money, or learn how grown ups deal with things. Omega, he might be a solid kid, but he's got a LOT to learn. wow
  21. Manchillz, what information do you use when you go to the post office in order to find out the delivery status of a package?? You will need to go back there, use this information, then ask them for a tracking number/slip. Your excuse that your communications have been cut off due to exams also doesn't hold water since there are posts on this forum that range right through three weeks. You'll save yourself a lot of trouble by just being a man, and refunding this buyer's money.
  22. Manchillz, unless you have proper proof of shipment, with a valid tracking number, then you can't prove you actually shipped the item. The item should have been insured too. In this case, you will need to refund the money. Lesson learnt here is to get tracking numbers, and forward them on to the buyer. You made a mistake in mistreating his property (since he had paid you). Refund or face charges.
  23. Yes they do. OP, has he sent you a scanned copy of this supposed slip yet?
