  1. My dad told me yesterday to look at the first ascent blue. I shall think about it. For now due to budget constraints I stick with my fixed old red amd my one new red one from first ascent. Use what you got.
  2. YES fructose is a problem for me. Especially stuff like oranges, grapes, pears. Etc. Give me cramps and the.... Banana, apple is ok
  3. Seems like I need to get a professional to really help me with the correct nutrition and not go on hearsay and what works for others.
  4. I tried a gel the weekend when I was running at 130% made me naar and feel sick. I struggle with super suger loaded fuels. That's why I tried bananas, I read the pros use it.
  5. Did you find an answer yet on shorts. And I agree on the burn your matches, it's difficult to not want to race.
  6. I get what you saying. So let me give history. I habe been cycling from 2016 before not much as a sport. More now and then except of we count school and commute right after school. I did mostly max 60km 1 day races. I would eat pap( oats or pronutro before a race, but train on an empty stomach.) I was told a banana is enough to last 2 hours and should take it 2 hours into the ride, some posts yes are from lacking knowledge.
  7. The height, does it affect you alot. Due to less oxygen? Got a Silverback HT. With 3x9 all I got. I'm very competitive. But just want to do this as a see how it goes race. It's not seeded as I understand. No alcohol for me. Taking wife and kids staying in a close by farm. For a few days. Maybe 4. To just relax from life a bit. Training part noted.
  8. I'm lost. Can you elaborate on your comment. New to stage races yes. Not new to cycling
  9. I don't mind. The work. It's needed. I like a challenge. I don't want to bother him with stuff he's not payd to do
  10. So current weight is 75. Target is 70. But we'll see. I have a very limited budget. So most stuff is cheap. Regarding clothing. I'm seeing some in 2 weeks to get my eating right and also to die blood work on what works with y body. And what not. I will remember about using older parts. Not planning on getting new clothes soon. I have decent bush mech skills. Can fix most things with draad( grew up on a farm) I got Tyre repair stuff spare tube. Will look at taking spare Tyre. Have a piece of chain, muti tool. Bomb and hand pump.
  11. Hi. I would to get some advice from those who have done stage races before. On what to do how to ride etc. Nutrition. Clothing. Etc. I'm doing the small amohela as my first. Maybe the berg and bush after if I money tree allows it. I have a coach Jaco ferreira, training me for the ride.( feels more like he wants to work me to death some days.) but the rest I'm out lost. I've been eating future life smart food before rides and races then.1. 5 to 2 hours into it a banana. I have alot of water. 2l in back pack and my bottle. And seems I need more. I take half my toolbox with. I ride with safety boots that weigh a ton etc.
  12. Op 'n trekker in die son mid Desember is dit warm
  13. DO it. It is a great ride. Some nice climbing and down hill. Even the van gaalens and sondela ones are nice. I'm doing the whole series with my 8 year old son. But ja buffels was unieke this side of SA
  14. I have been riding it for 6years no wobble in my bike. How much do you add?
  15. When I see this I want to move to the cape
  16. Yes I'm doing it with my son. The 10km it's 11march. They said next week we can go again last time then the race then it's fully closed after the race
  17. Sad to see Them close down. Was the closest place I could ride. En Petrol is duur. Also the best climbs in Pretoria. Super tune and the berms coming down used to be super fun
  18. Selfde hier. Ek het ook pille as kind by my ma leer kry. Vit D. Koop goedkoopste wat ek kan. Ek het gister met spf 50 steeds gebrand. Maar minder. As kind het ek op die plaas in Vrystaat deur'n t hemp blase gebrand. In die veld
  19. Did my last buffelsdrift ride.
  20. Silverback. I'm biased. But the stride is not bad. I have a 2016 Silverback Sola 4. I still ride it. Some components replaced mostly moving parts. But I enjoy. It. Ie en got a set of wheels with slicks for the odd road riding. Its better than road bike. Slower but more stable. And you can go offroad. I love going of gravel roads. If you like road( me hates the black stuff?) gravel bikes are also an option.
  21. When you fall ask yourself why? Are you not eating before you go and feel weak. Are you going beyond your limit. Downhill use alot of upper body. Do you Trai for those lines or just take it. I have been telling my dad he is not doing thses things and he seems to fall bad. ( ABIT older). I personally don't think it's your age but lack of practice. My reason I say this I used to do Enduro stuff and only trails before 2019.stopped in lockdown. Only started riding now again in Oktober. Mostly gravel Rd and tar. I could do 62 km ride for sight on mtb at 20kph with only 70% effort and chat to someone most of the way. Gravel slower but OK. Now yesterday I went to buffelsdrift to do last ride there. And I suffered go down stuff like super tube etc. My hands arms back and stomach wanted to give in and today Im going to work with difficulty I feel 80 today. But only 38. So I could feel my lack of exercise in the certain stuff.
  22. This make some think. I currently train on the trainer with a coach during the week. Saterdag I ride long with certain goals. To me I love going through the veld and wind in my hair. I would struggle for 4 hours on the trainer. But need the trainer to train to do long runs. I do agree on the enjoy part. Thats what it's supposed to be about. But if you aren't some pro what are you rushing for. Cycling can be fun or punishment. I did ride for sight last weekend. And ended up riding with someone else 90%, of the way as a chat. And afterwards I wondered why did I race. I can do this for alot cheaper and less stress
  23. You sound like an electrician. They only read when it's life threatening
  24. I learnt recently don't do bearings in your boerboel broek. Mine is now an overall broek.
