Had a friend of mine in the same situation. His really old mountain bike was stolen and wanted to buy another one. He does not ride much and was looking at spending about R5-7k...mad!!! I found him a good secondhand Merida TFS100 on the hub for R3200...much more sensible. He loves it and his wife loves me!! If you are buying secondhand, make sure you have someone with you that actually knows a bit about bikes as it may look great but the groupset and condition may be rubbish! IMHO.

Thanks Tankman, So generally, i presume, I do not wnat to have a BB30 crank as it will probably not fit. I am still confused though as I am looking at getting the FSA mtb crank shown and they talk about 386 and Megaexo and I have no idea what they are! I have a Merida 2009 frame.

What is the difference betwen BB30 and Megaexo? How do you know what BB your bike has, or needs, when you are buyibg a new crankset and BB? How do you know the width of your BB, if you want to go to 2x9 or 2x10?
