  1. Precisely. Some folks are just either too stupid to understand what the rules are, or they do know and just choose to ignore it, or worse, alter the interpretation thereof.
  2. Yes. Typo. Still doesn't change the fact that a car STILL has to STOP regardless.
  3. "Yield for incoming traffic" That is what the sign says. STOP means stop. There is no getting around that. If you cannot distinguish the difference then there's no point in debating further. Context: when there is an oncoming car heading from Melkbosstrand to Big Bay then you'd expect a car standing at a stop to remain stationary until the oncoming car has passed. If a cyclist passes at that same time then the car ought to keep still.
  4. I'm not really able to comment about Durban. Maybe in town and surrounds around the beach front and stadium? I don't know the area too well apart from business trips there.
  5. Also, depending what skill level you're at, you can consider climbing Irish to the top where you drop into Armageddon 6 (8 and 7 are very techy, not really worth the extra climbing in my opinion) and then ride Armageddon 6,5,4 and then exit before 3. Go left and climb to Red Phoenix 3 and drop in, or there is also DH which is as the name suggests a DH line, but it isn't only rideable on a DH sled. I've done it many times on a 120mm trail bike without problems. This option is more gnarly sure but you're guaranteed a smile that will only start fading sometime in October 2024.
  6. That is well doable. Take a right when you exit Irish 5 and then stay on the contour to the end. At the end by the T-junction either head up and keep left before you get to Red Phoenix and head up to the top where Neverending story (NS) starts - rough hike a bike section included. Or take a right at the T-junction to the contour road below and then take an immediate left again. At the 4-way keep left again and go up to the next, lower, less fun starting point for NS. Less rough, more jeep track and forest road. Firehut is on the other side of the valley. Don't start late in summer. That valley starts baking in the sun not long after the first rays break over the mountains. Enjoy!
  7. More importantly it would seem that the Kom was on fire. One spot I never paddled out at to my regret.
  8. This can't stop there. Drunk driving is a scourge that has to be eliminated with harsh penalties (bordering on severe) and effective policing.
  9. This morning, MyCity came past me to the stop about 50m ahead of me. The bus was maybe less than 50cm from me as it passed while steering in to the stop. It also then didn't stop, it just kept going because there was no-one waiting at the stop. Again I was reminded why I dislike road riding so much.
  10. People don't give a damn about others. This is why I opt for cycling in the trails rather than tar. Even now I'm heading out to the west coast cycle path to Melkbosstrand. That's the only tar I'm willing to cycle and even that is risky. I got knocked down on that stretch before by a idiot exiting his estate and choosing not to stop at a big painted STOP.
  11. I'm not a cappuccino fan precisely because milk. I'm not a fan. That coffee looks yummy to some, horrendous to me. I'll take a double shot espresso thanks.
  12. That is horrific. I'm at a loss for words. Anything I say now can and will be used against me, so ek sê eerder niks.
  13. I hope the rider is okay all things considered. And that the driver gets appropriately punished. Maybe spending Christmas with pappa in Pollsmoor should do the trick.
  14. Another road that makes me on edge. I came down OKW a few years ago and opted to pedal up Main Road rather than go that route. Coin toss outcome either way.
  15. That part of town ignites my Spidey senses. I'm sure it's fine but I just don't feel comfortable around there.
  16. @MongooseMan @SSCC I'm not sure about the regularity to be honest, going on what I can recall of previous incidents. If things have changed then that is great to hear. I haven't ridden in the south for quite some time so the risk factor is from what I've read here and seen in local news.
  17. Schpaansemat road / M42. That stretch past the US Consulate and Pollsmoor prison. Regular bike jack spot.
  18. It's a roll of the dice. Some peeps have it good, others get hit. Edit - there was some talk about crossing the N1 by the Century City train station and cycling through Kensington into Pinelands. Dunno how safe that is, haven't tried but it sounds super dodgy to me.
  19. The bit passing by the township has had a few incidents over the years. Not sure about lately.
  20. IYKYK it's a Cape thing
  21. The peninsula image shows crime hotspots in red and amber. Green is okay to cycle. The city bowl image shows crime hotspots with many bike hijackings and muggings taking place.
  22. The answer to this question is simple. If you think of yourself as a human with even a small semblance of a moral compass, stop and help. If you think of yourself as a bit of a dwis, keep riding and look the other way. It really is that simple. Do unto others as you would they do unto you. I've stopped and helped in some really bad situations, and I've been helped in a really bad situation. I've never given the fact that I've been inconvenienced a thought while helping others though. I was too busy helping. But that's just me.
  23. It suddenly dawned on me the last time I pedaled to Chapman's was on my last Cycle Tour in 2020. Seeing as I decided to take my annual leave for a change tomorrow seems like a prime opportunity. Mmmmm.
  24. I have no idea what you are referring to . . . 🤣 it was a rather embarrassing chuck. Just as well I was alone. I wouldn't live that one down for sure.
