  1. There's always ample demand from employers for people willing to do manual/labour intensive work.
  2. Dude that is a thing of rare beauty.
  3. All the best Cois. Not lekker to read about your journey, sterkte.
  4. Speights is my preferred beer; gold medal though for me, spose it's a bit like Castle or maybe Amstel (in a brown bottle though). I don't like low cal or half strength beers although I will drink DB 2 percenter 'beer flavoured drinks'; just looked and it's called DB Export Citrus. Note that this stuff is not beer by any means! http://www.dbexportbeer.co.nz/beers/dbexport-citrus-grapefruit
  5. Lots of options from all your international stuff to the local stuff. Locals include: Speights Gold Medal Speights Summit (probably akin to a Lite) Speights Mid Steinlager (which has a lite, I don't like Steinies so no idea what it's called) Lion Red (yes, you can now down a Lion again and feel satisfied) Tui (which probably also has a few varieties) Double Brown Waikato Draught (river water) Etc etc etc.
  6. Thanks for sharing these adventures Patches, even if it makes us old folks green with envy...
  7. I know people who have imported cars from SA or elsewhere. Just about everyone says it is not worth the hassle. Just get a DRZ400 or something like that and hit the instant gratification button...
  8. Definitely talking from a 'private use' perspective Patches; Spark treats the schmo consumers like schmo consumers. Corporate accounts a whole 'nother story.
  9. Edit to add that 2degrees bought Snap Internet as they didn't have an ISP of their own. That was maybe 3 years ago. After that, I moved away from Snap/2degrees to Stuff Fibre. Can't stand big telcos and their terrible customer service.
  10. I used to love putting together Airfix and Tamiya models back in the day. The Hawker Tempest was my all time favourite, so the Sea Fury gets my thumbs up... Just this last holiday I got my older boy his first Airfix model, had to be a Spitfire of course (Mk 22/24 in 1:24 scale) although the first one he saw was a Bristol Beaufighter; never liked those so had to talk him round to the Spitty). We sat and put it together, er, together and finished it in Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force livery. Being a hugely 'arts and crafts' type, the lad loved it..
  11. Stuff fibre is very good. You also get a discounted Asus router which is way better than the rubbish you will get from any of the big providers. AVOID spark, vodafone and even 2degrees at all costs. 2d's ISP used to be Snap Internet, and Snap was bloody good. But big telcos are notorious for their terrible service. Also, never do business with a company which has to bribe you to become their customer, so avoid for example the likes of Trustpower (disastrous service). Generally, you want your ISP to be set and forget, and then with good local backup when you do have any issues. You will get that from Stuff Fibre...

For the longest time the family car was a 1979 Cortina 2.0 GL, white like the one pictured. 74 kW of raw power to the back wheels, my man. And a wood fascia inside with brown vinyl seats. What a beast.

My old man hit me with one of those when I was in the process of being expelled from school. Made a bit of a clanging sound, too
  17. NZ family of 4 costs an extra $1000 for visas when you head to SA for a holiday...
  18. Just for the love of all that is good be careful on that thing on the road.
  19. How's this for the good, chaps. On our way to Brisbane for a couple of weeks (Ross W, will look ya up). Discovered my older boy's passport expired in August...24 hours before the flight takes off. Phoned AirNZ first, chicky there said it is possible to get a passport in time and made a note on our check in, phoned Dept of Internal Affairs next and told them of the situation, filed an online application for a passport, collected the passport at midday, ten hours later, on time and good to go. Absolutely incredible - and all the civil servants bent over backwards with polite assistance and prompt help. Truly spectacular. Don't think you'd get that kind of help in many places around the world; the cost was an extra hundred bucks over the normal passport fee...
  20. Hope it comes together Patches. Seeing your posts sometimes makes me want to be a single bloke again (although I am a very happy family man!)

I never understood the allure of owning vast collections of CDs or video tapes or DVDs etc. When it all went digital, it was a real relief- none of that crap to clutter up my house!

Who remembers 'spading chicks' haha. Was digging in my garden and remembered that old expression. Also recalled it being a spectacularly and consistently unsuccessful endeavour...

    RIFLE

My 3 and 5 year old lads shot their first rifle this past weekend at a range in Taupo; that's my 5 yo running through how it all works before firing (the muffs went on prior to pulling the trigger...hard enough to get kids to listen without blocking their ears!). Ended up buying that rifle from my mate, it's a suppressed Tikka T3 stainless with carbon fibre stock, .243 calibre. My boys liked the sound of the gun more when we took the suppressor off
