  1. I foresee the cost of domestic flights increasing for the budget-conscious traveler. Lanseria has been a great airport for those of us in Jhb not close to ORT, and the cost of travel to ORT will have to be factored into the ticket prices now. You can either pay the Gautrain fare, or have the cost of parking at ORT (Lanseria isn't cheap for parking either, but it's been easy to get family to drop off or even Uber). As far as Lanseria-served flying is concerned, this leaves Safair on the CT route only. Kulula hasn't been a low-cost airline for ages (I don't even bother checking their prices anymore), so Safair will probably raise their prices (why not, if there's no other competitor?).
  2. Looks like the low cost options are going to get fewer for travelers at Lanseria: https://techcentral.co.za/mango-joins-saa-in-cancelling-flights/96152/
  3. More proof (not that you need it) that runners are tough: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/02/23/us/washington-runner-injured-crawled-eight-hours/index.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rss%2Fcnn_latest+%28RSS%3A+CNN+-+Most+Recent%29
  4. Butt-clenching moments for the occupants! And those firefighters got there quickly!
  5. Good story here: https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/feel-good-seven-marathons-on-seven-continents-in-seven-days-no-problem-20200220
  6. Damn! "The failure of the pressure seal was most likely attributed to manhandling of the door during cargo/baggage handling," Highly trained crews and aircraft technicians, and then a baggage handler is (potentially) the weakest link.
  7. Remind me never to sit next to you on a flight
  8. This should be in the "Divorce" thread to cheer us up on Valentine's Day.
  9. At least you have the paths. In Jhb we have to run/cycle in the roads because the sidewalks are impassable.
  10. I think that's where this is headed.
  11. That feeling when your hard 10k looks like this on Strava when you're done. Stupid "smart"phone!
  12. And if being blackmailed (because it wasn't "the wife") then incriminating tape.
  13. I experienced this a few years ago flying into Raleigh, NC on a regional shuttle plane (puddle-jumper - may have been a turboprop Embraer. It was before 9/11 and the cockpit door was open so I had a clear view of the runway (obscured as it was by the storm) through the windscreen. However most of the time the runway was more visible through my passenger window as the plane side-slipped and lifted/dropped on approach. It was pretty hairy, and somehow at the last moment the stars (plane and runway) aligned for touchdown. Hectic, and very quiet passengers that deplaned from that one.
  14. Storm Ciara has provided another load of crazy landing videos! While some think pilots are overpaid (Michael O'Leary?) the pax would disagree (especially the ones who were facing the runway through the side windows!).
  15. It's great. His rate of build progress is awesome.
  16. I had a Fiat 125S in that era, and I loved it but I also lusted after your car so badly.
  17. Wow, your shoe collection rivals that of Imelda Marcos!
  18. The Asics I bought last year are now at 1400kms and Strava keeps nagging me to consider replacing them. They look fine, though they don't seem as "plush" on the road. Guess it's time to start looking for a replacement pair. They were the first pair of "real" running shoes (I won't count Maxed) that I've ever bought, so it was a bit hit and miss. Now I have a slightly better idea of what to look for in the next pair, including a wider toe box. I don't have a wide foot, but the Asics are still tight and it took a few lacing patterns before that got better.
  19. Then I suspect that Micheal O'Leary probably helped him write the script for this video - he'll turn the knife in Boeing just to squeeze them for a better aircraft deal.
  20. Saw this in the comments on this video - priceless> MCAS (Money Comes Above Safety)
  21. Just started reading his book Running with Sherman The Donkey with the Heart of a Hero. Very enjoyable.
  22. I also enjoyed it very much, but my favourite is still Warhorse. The movie was great, and the theatre production was the best I've ever seen. I left the show shaken and stirred.
  23. Love the way those wing-tip wheels are all over the place on take-off. But the laws of gravity are strictly observed when the HE payload comes off the racks.
