  1. My old Sworks hardtail 2014 model is still the bike I pull out the garage 1st every time while training or riding for fun . Just feels right ....... even if she is now 10 years old .
  2. Simple really , go as light as your pocket will allow and make the rest up with effort .
  3. Started cycling to get fitter mx and motard on a two bicycles won on a Spar lucky draw 18 years ago . Stopped mx and motard many years ago and cycling is the better in so many ways . My son and I ride 3 to 4 times a week every week if possible . At least he cannot drop me as easily as he used to on the track . Mostly mtb with a little road and tandem .
  4. I prefer riding on my own on the tar & in the bush slow or fast , its my time to do my own thing with no interruptions . Its like self help therapy and it gives me time to put the world and myself in order . Don't get me wrong I also enjoy group rides now and again it helps keep you sharp as long as you are riding with like minded and fit people . There is the risk of getting jumped and that would be my own fault .......... I accept that ......
  5. Spray a little Brunox on the actual external seals as well or use the Sheen it keeps it them from cracking or drying up . The Sprite is an excellent cleaner because its not harsh and does not dry out or dull any of the bike components etc. . I even spray a little DWF on the cap screws etc. keeps them looking new and no rust can start . Wash my mx bike and superbike in the same manner and no dull paint or streaks .
  6. I first wet the bike then spray a product called Sprite over the entire bike and while it soaks the dirt off use Prepsol to clean the chain . After a few minutes a gentle spray of water and the bike is clean and only then due I wash it with Shield car wash . Once dry I spray Castrol DWF fluid on the chain and into bearings/pivot points to remove any water and provide a light lube . Then I spray Mucoff bike polish onto the frame and Sheen onto the wall of the mtb tyres to stop them perishing and it reduces the chances of side wall cuts . Stops mud sticking to tyre walls in bad conditions . Lastly spray a little Brunox shock cleaner in to the front and rear shocks and compress then wipe off dirt . Do the same to my road bike except for the Sheen on the tyre walls . Never have a problem with squeaks and my bearings and chains last longer . If my mountain bikes are only dusty I do not wash after every ride same as my road bike . Bikes looks like new ! While enjoying a beer or coffee .
  7. Thats why its called the Epic ......
  8. Once you change to Shimano you will never look back !
  9. Looking into a small transport business moving motorcycles for customers between Durban , Johannesburg and Cape Town . Can also look at transporting bicycles and other similar sized items at the same time should there be a demand ?
  10. Every day over the age of 50 without pain is a good day .........................
  11. Went for a peroxide drip yesterday , one of three and apparently I do still have Type A & B coxsackie . Type A being the rare and problem one . Lets see.................. And yes the medication the other three doctors I did see gave me only seemed to be happy pills with the side effects supposed to help with aches and pains , go figure .
  12. Tried more than one doctor pushing natural and spent plenty and nil change in 5 years . Feel fine for a while then bang feel buggered again , summer or winter makes no difference . Aches and pains with a headache and no energy , Then a few days later I start to come right again ............. Saying that specialist doctors have made no progress either ..............
  13. Spent a great deal of money on homeopathic doctors and medicines and it was a complete waste of time and money , even had ozone treatment and that was an even bigger waste of money and time . Natural does not work but thanks for the advise .
  14. Did read this some time back but there must be a doctor out there who has a fix ? Need a doctor house in short !
  15. Any advise ? Spent plenty money on blood tests which point towards all the different types of Coxsackie B and seen numerous specialist doctors etc. . It comes and goes even when I rest and do nil for long periods of time , being bugging me for 5 years now and is really placing a damper on my riding & racing . Every time I try step it up a notch ,bang it flattens me again and again . Go to doctor and just get the same story , sorry chap its with you for life.................. Doctors just want to hand out tablets and even try tell me in a round about way I am suffering from depression . Been tested for just about everything and over it . Anybody got any ideas ? Tired of this **** .
  16. Agreed like the brand or not . Yawn......buy what ever makes you happy as long as its an Sworks
  17. Joined in on a hard club ride and have ended up with a sore throat & joints once again almost like flu with being tired . I knew it would come from the effort but it was worth it . Rest up for a day or two and see what happens again . Very frustrating !!
  18. Also ended up with E.B. on top of it all . Spent plenty money on specialists and even went the natural way . Doctors and homeopaths will take your money and prescribe all sorts and believe me I have tried all sorts and nothing will work . Rest is the only thing that makes it ease up and even then it flairs up at times anyways . Had ozone treatment 3 times a week and even that is bull . Did have my heart checked out and that is all good so no damage so I ride whenever I feel good and rest when I do not feel great . Still give it stick as hard as possible when feeling good . One thing is for sure you will never be as fast as before or be able to train as hard as you used to but be positive and enjoy your bike when you can .
  19. Started with coxsackie back in 2015 and only after the doctor finally figured it out thinking it was stress and fatigue . Reckon I picked it up in a cadence room but it put me down for 8 months the first time straight no riding and could hardly make a full day at work . Doctors gave me pain killers to hide the flu like feelings and told me to suck it up . Training anything like I used to and I risk feeling like **** a day or two later so racing a stage race a few days in a row results in being sick for a week or two thereafter . A new specialist put me on epilepsy tablets which seem to help mostly but it still comes and goes which sucks because i love riding my bikes . So basically I believe it never really goes away so when I feel good I ride and when I don't I do nothing . Feel sorry for anyone who has it but ride when you can .
  20. Had a virus of sorts on and off for the past 3 years turns out it EBV which hits me every time I try train harder than normal . Does not matter what you take and even rest does not always help but slowly coming right . Very frustrating when you are used to riding 3 to 4 times a week .
