  1. Mountain sancturay is lovely for camping, hikes, swim, kloofing. The mountainbike trails inside are a bit technical - big loos rocks technical. could possibly cycle from the campsite towards breeds or the hotel on dirt roads.
  2. I have shimano pedals that clip on the one side, and flat on the other side - I've been using this combo for many years, and I find that I less and less need to clip in when I'm on the dual. On the hardtail it's more interesting going downhill when I'm not clipped in, so I do. The flat pedals allow me to try far more technical stuff than what I would if I was clipped in. It may just be in my head, but for me it's working.
  3. A lovely place to take newbies to. Some excitement, but mostly fun. And coffee http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JuJJ9NfQOss/UVbpx8mW1_I/AAAAAAAABT0/8Eey9ove4Yg/s1600/DSCF6708.jpg
  4. Beware ... it's addictive
  5. Enjoy it!!!
  6. As jy 'n 29er ry, ry jy ten minste nie meer 'n fietsietjie nie
  7. Look at this link: http://www.trans-provence.com/guideweek.shtml - riding the trans Provence route, but not racing it It's on my ever-growing to-do list.
  8. working on it on my commute
  9. I've been caught out by a car like this once - most likely very much slower than Burry was going. The driver (in my case) claimed he didn't see me ... in broad daylight with a luminous yellow jacket. By the time you realise the car's intentions, it's too late to do anything. My guess is that the driver totally misjudged the speed at which Burry was coming.
  10. TubeHunter, the motorists behind such a bunch will not care about your maths. They will get irritated. motorists will percieve this as zero consideration ... Would it not be easier to search for and train on safer roads?
  11. an eyewitness report in this article http://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/kwazulu-natal/cyclist-s-wife-cradled-him-at-scene-1.1447719#.UOmMw-TNZ8E

    1.5 m rule

what is the 'required action'? what should they do do get the desired outcome?
  13. like he said: starts with me. when driving: typing on a cellphone while driving? taking a call or searching for a number while driving? driving 80 in a 60 zone? when cycling: making eye contact with any driver that may be a threat assume that i am invisible showing respect. acknowledge drivers when they see me at an intersection and give me way, even if I had right of way to start with
  14. Lee - what exactly is the difference? In one case someone died and in the other not? We cannot demand respect from drivers if we don't show it to them. Mutual respect.

    1.5 m rule

In Burry's case, it sounded like the vehicle made a right-turn in front of him? What is the biggest danger when on a bike?
  16. I saw several calls for a 1.5m law on twitter. How would a 1.5m law make our roads safer? How would a law like that be enforced? (when was it 140cm, and when was it 160cm?) What else could authorities possibly do to prevent more accidents?
  17. I ride with flat pedals on one side, and clips on the other side. It works for me - I can clip in when i want to, and I have the freedom to try technical stuff above my ability if i want to. The flat sides have little stick-out thingies which makes my soles grip nicely on them - it's rubber soles, so the are flexible, dont slip, and can grab the pedals, enabling me to do a bunny-hop without being clipped in best of both.
  18. Wow ... so sad. RIP Burry

  24. If it's my light you saw, I was commuting from Ferndale through the spruit to Parktown. I'm the big packpack and the bigger grin in delta park
  25. there are less technical trails. a huge variety - twisty forest tracks, some bridgies, a playground, long climbs, and mindblowing downhills. Sure Alex from Roc & rope would be able to explain to you where to ride. Or get hold of Glenn to show you around. Or just invite me for a weekend
