  1. I used to paddle (and hence swim when the boat tipped) there quite often. Never got sick. Don't know of anybody who did.
  2. if 'faster' means faster roadie times: - the upgrade from my pink hypermarket invader to my cro-moly bike - the upgrade from the cro-moly bike to a roadie-bike - the upgrade from flat pedals to cleats on the roadie-bike if 'faster' means more control on singletrack: - the hardtail's fork upgrade to a rockshock sid
  3. LOL ok, i admit - i'm caught out - that's in essence what i was after - someone wanted to borrow my hardtail for what i know will be a very muddy weekend. i figured it would be cheaper to rent him one, than to lend him mine From their website it looks like we can rent bikes from Mankele - will find out if there would be any wvailable.
  4. the bike would need to go further than rietvlei - would need it for the whole weekend.
  5. I'm looking to hire a bike for a friend for a weekend. Linden used to rent bikes out, but I phoned them this morning; they dont do it anymore. Anyone got any idea where i could rent a bike? Any hardtail will do. Would have to be for around 3 days. thnx
  6. Wow, i forgot how much fun riding in the rain at night is Dirty bikes, lots of laughs, Lawley Street Xmas lights, hot chocolate. A perfect evening. It's got to beeeeeeeeeeeee-e-e-eeeeee ... DIRTY!
  7. it's trying to tell you to go offroad rather. much more fun
  8. Jeandre is brilliant! Also get very good service from Wolfgang.
  9. brilliant idea to get some goodwill before we need it
  10. i have double-sided pedals. One side i can clip in; when it's too technical for my liking, i use the flat side. Works a charm for me.
  11. i want one!
  12. hmmm the capetonian who come up here to do ONLY the MTB event .... needs to go find some good singletrack and some excellent events in his backyard, me thinks! while there was some good singletrack and some fun bits, it's not an event that i'll travel far to do ... the number-pickup-traffic this year was enough to make me seriously reconsider if it's worth it
  13. Leeu - I have no idea how the argus work - leave for me is precious, so I've never done the Argus MTB event. I wouldn't have minded the Argus MTB event to be on the same weekend as the roadie ride - that way i could also have done both. Those numbers must probably also be picked up before the event? so if you're out of town, like say Saldanha, then it's a long drive down to go fetch the numbers, and next day another drive down to ride ... and the next week repeat for the roadie ride? ouch
  14. No gautrain to the registration side's neck of the woods - at least not that i know of
  15. Spent an hour and a half's fuel in traffic to cellect a number for this weekend's riding ... and then i'll have to do the same next week for next weekend's ride. Let's save the planet next year and have only 1 expo and 1 number collection.
  16. Some feedback: seems like it *was* the lightbar. Thule gave me another one to try for a week, and haven't had problems with it. So finally i have a working lightbar
  17. thx agteros. it's the light cage that's single-contact and should have been double - not the connector Got feedback from Thule - they said to bring the lightbar (and the car) so that they can investigate & hopefully fix.
  18. wow - this is pretty!!!!
  19. Thx Caerus - will go back there when i have examples of other cars not doing the same - for the time being i have nothing but their word It's a thule ride-on. I guess I could drive around without the lightbar (i have been for a while) - but the rack makes the car quite a bit longer - probably 1 1/2 metres. After dark i'd like other cars to know there's something between my car's taillights and their front bumpers. Saturday at the Jacaranda-ride I searched for other small cars with ride-on racks, but I could only see hanging racks (and often the type that don't need a towbar) - so I guess finding other small cars with Thule bikeracks & lightbars won't be as easy as i thought. I'll keep looking though. In the mean time, I'll contact Thule and find out if they'd heard about this before. thx for the feedback
  20. ouch. that hurt. will have to do this more often; hekpoort on a bike with roadie-gears must be good for ... something?
  21. I had it installed when i bought the car - e.i. when i collected the new car from the shopfloor, it had a towbar on - but i had to ask for it and they had it done somewhere (e.i. not from the factory) At that stage i didnt need the light-fitting, just the towbar itself. Now i drive more often after dark with the bike on ... but it's years later so i don't know if it was like this since forever. I did have a different thule lightbar earlier, and can't remember having problems with it. The car was at the shop last week to sort out an issue that i had with one of the headlights dying every 2 months or so - so there was recent work on the electrical system. The electrician that worked on the car today said for R900 he could convert the lightbar to 'double-contact' ..... but i do not want to spend the money only for them to afterwards realise that that wasn't the problem. If i can find someone else who had this issue before, then at least i'll know that the electrician wasn't just guessing. I cant think that Thule could sell lightbars that would be a problem on (all?) small cars, though - it doesn't make sense??
  22. the guy at the shop said the lights are feeding resistance back to the car, activating the abs brakes pump (or something like that) .... small cars weren't designed to tow, so they have no protection. I tried to google the issue, but don't really know what to google for ... but if what he says is true, then other small cars should have the same issue with this specific thule lightbar, not? i'll try the battery thing - have a friend that should have a voltmeter so at least that's something i can try - thx
  23. found the roadie bike under a pile of dust and pumped the tyres this morning. now to get the 3-towers mud off the shoes before tomorrow
  24. you wont be. i'm riding too
  25. Only way i can test is - put my thule lightbar on another micra (or any other small car) and see if it does the same. Anyone with a micra who wants to borrow my lightbar for a while? - put a different lightbar on my car and see if it does the same. Anyone with a lightbar that i could borrow for the weekend? or if i can find other people with similar experiences?
