  1. my suunto. the heart rate belt's batteries lasts only ... 3 months, i think was the last time ... so i ride without a heartbeat for 6 months waiting for the T6's battery to go, so that i can have both replaced at the same time. i don't use the heartrate for training; it's just pretty pictures (which i often dont have) but i love the altitude readings - when training, i like to see it accumulating; during an event, i like to see what's done already; and when looking at my training log, i love to see that i've climbed 100 km that year
  2. henly on klip is on the kliprivier - got some nice rapids too.
  3. short will be good - would need a rest day on the mission to ride all the bikeparks that i can find over the public holidays coming up - looking forward to discovering new ones
  4. how safe is it ... 2 people, 5, huge group?

    sani pass

not wise to go alone ... the top bit is rutted & rocky. the cars have right of way simply because the cant drive anywhere else .... in case you fall, it would be better to have a buddy with you, even only for sympathy. this will be spectacular if you could arrange some snow for when you're there
  8. my vote goes for the 'wig' thread.
  9. ouch sounds horrible .... what does doc say, would it recover completely? and do you have a nice x-ray?
  10. get well soon, MTB007! the vlei, i'll come check out the steel bridges over easter weekend - can't wait!
  11. awwwww NO ... agentgreen see what you did now .... another 20 destinations added to my bucketlist, when will i have time to tick all of THIS off? nice thread
  12. oh no - what a horrible time the family must have gone through not knowing where he is ..... condolences to you & his family
  13. does lesotho count as 'not south africa'? cos the trans-lesotho trail has some great potential. the thin air challenge is also coming up, dont know if they still have space ... then there's swaziland, some good MTB there too.
  14. oh, and still on the list: - paris to marrakesh, some of it on the el camino if possible - iceland - canada
  15. lhasa to kathmandu. total budget last year (incl flights) was less than cape epic would have been - and it included a flight from kathmandu to lhasa over everest (organised tour; easier to get alein permits & access to tibet) or fly to london, take a train through wales to holyhead, ferry over to dublin (or fly directly to dublin) then cycle around ireland. if you have time, take a ferry from belfast over to ... stranraer i think? then train or cycle up to fort william. if you still have mnore time, cycle the great glen way. if there's still more time, down to newcastle, and a ferry over to holland where you could continue or come back later (panniers) or fly up to amsterdam and cycle down to paris. (panniers)
  16. it's a hippie event and not just about being the fastest, this system would reward racing snakes - the sani2c is what it is because they cater for people like me too. i got my entry a few years ago with patiently hitting 'refresh' every few seconds ... did the nonstop 2 years ago so that my adventure-racing-buddies could get a spot on sani2c last year. (due to joburg2c there was no nonstop last year) you could also experience the sani2c tracks by doing joburg2c (with some awesome berg &bush, and some tufties for good measure) i asked wappa last year at joberg2c about sani2c route - there were plans to open the route as a 'touring' trail, but there were some logistical issues.
  17. No, No, No, NO. there IS no more leave for this year. what do they mean pick ONE event only for the fifth one ... my boss will NOT be impressed if i ask for leave .... NO.
  18. hey! what's all this talk about standing on cats!

    Winter commuting

i found a strong headlamp works - even in daytime. i point it to driver-height, and it seems like i'm now a bit more visible at traffic circles. the other usual stuff - bright wind-jacket, red flashinglight or 2, a reflector on my backpack ... i also pretend to be totally invisible, which helps - and i get totall off my bike at traffic lights - standing next to it, and sometimes walk over rather than ride - it's often quicker, and for some or other reason i seem more visible when doing that.
  20. hehehe ek gaan die best-travelled boeke in die klas he ... hulle was klaar lesotho toe
  21. go for it, agteros - you know you want to!
  22. facilities are great - how many bike parks has showers for the bikes? some really fun tracks.
  23. i heard (probably the same) interview - but i heard something totally different. my impression was that the underworld where they come from and operate is a fascinating one, and that she was telling the story - not glorifying them. would be an interesting read nevertheless ...
  24. which one you taking to TDA?
  25. when are you taking it out? and where? and remember, if there's no pictures, it didn't happen
