  1. thats cheap, these are CEOs racing here man, R120 artisanal boerie rolls all day long
  2. That is a standard exhaust on those older CRVs
  3. So lets put it this way. I have a bike, replacement cost is 20-30k. But I did not buy it new, so I paid a fair bit less than that. What this boils down to is that tyres are each costing nearly 10% of the purchase price of the bike. So 2 tyres are 20% of what I bought the bike for.
  4. I wonder what the Epic would charge for you to be there ? Because this is a very good idea
  5. but consider the cost of NOT using a condom
  6. if you're doing this calc then my Pirelli's are sitting at 10c / km, but, at the new price they will be 12.5c / km And thats me pushing them to their usable limit. Currently running tubes in them because they are no longer air tight to the point where the sealant cant seal all the holes. So the actual cost per km is higher. My take on the pricing, both points have been mentioned. 1) Price gouging by manufacturers and distributors. Because they can, because we are druggies 2) R&D and materials. We all want the lightest with the least rolling resistance and the most puncture resistant. Thats not to say that car tyres dont have massive R&D thrown at them, they also strive for lighter, grippier, quieter and longer lasting. But as has been mentioned, typically you're getting 10's of thousands of km out of a car tyre, so cost per km is lower. 3) This one has not been mentioned, but material supplies have been in shortage. It has affected the price of car tyres too. And I would imagine that priority is given to the auto industry over the cycling industry with regards to supply. None of this make me happy to pay over R1k for my rubberised drug of choice, which is one of the reasons I'm still riding my tyres, even though they have more holes in them than the colander in my wifes kitchen.
  7. ouch. I actually really like riding without gloves, my bars are double wrapped but even when on the hoods i feel more connected and dont get tingly hands. But all the short finger gloves I have are the cheaper ones with gel inserts. These inserts tend to be on the hard side, what I really liked about the Vye ones was the inserts were the same material used to make the padding in their bibs, which is nice and soft. Like my mate pointed out, 1 pair of good quality Vye gloves is similarly priced to 2 pairs of cheapish gloves, and they will probably last longer than the cheap gloves.
  8. I tried on their short finger gloves at the CTCT expo, easily the most comfortable gloves I've tried on. Have added to my cart and will purchase a pair when funds allow.
  9. It disgusts me to see how some people will leave a toilet when they're finished. You'd swear they have someone following them around cleaning up after them 24/7. Even so, i could never leave a toilet in such a state for someone else to clean.
  10. When I bought my Mirage bibs from them a few years back they were very accommodating with regards to exchanging the size I bought for a bigger size. Did you contact them when you discovered the jersey was to short ?
  11. Up and home before the sun
  12. you had me googling harlequin weave. Filed in the back of my head, I might give it a try some day
  13. good points
  14. Ctrl+0 to reset zoom to 100% (just in case)
  15. There is also the self preservation aspect, these guys are not pros, no need to risk life or limb. I was actually thinking about this yesterday when I slowed right down for a downhill tight right hander. I first lamented the fact that I slowed down, then rationalized that there is no need to risk it.
  16. I think there in lies the crux of it, make it a holiday and the actual costs become less of an issue. would love to be able to get my family down there again. It does however fall into normal school term days for the kids though, so it means them missing school.
  17. Was an unpleasant ride. Body felt sore, wind from the side both out and back. still better than a good day in the office.
  18. and unsuitable budget for early drivetrain replacement due to additional wear.
  19. Stole some wifi, watched it on the phone. Lekker vid to show people that have not experienced it. You started a group behind me, but 10 minutes faster than, that means you passed me somewhere.
  20. we are all ex-spurts here
  21. the tube blocked at work, will take a look tonight. What group did you start in ?
  22. There are a few reasons I dont think that the industry will totally collapse a) Unlike Windsurfing, cycling is a form of transport, so even if the recreation side goes to S#!t , the transport side will still be ticking over. So we may not get the marginal gains innovations but the basics will still be there b) Golf has not collapsed. Despite the entire cycling in the new golf thing, golf is still very much a multi billion $ industry with those little sticks still costing stupid money c) Cycling is alot more accessible than windsurfing in that windsurfing requires a body of water, cycling can be done on or off road straight from your front door. So we may see a bubble burst, but I doubt there will be a collapse.
  23. Lentils and Rice, whats not to like.
  24. Always the 2nd sunday of march, unless there is a pandemic, then the August is not in March but October.
  25. My view (and i could always be wrong), is that a chain is cheap item to replace compared to the rest of the drive train. As long as its not badly designed and causing more wear than it should, then buy a cheap chain and replace often. Sacrifice the chain rather than the rest of the drivetrain. My current KMC X11 has done 3 874km, and according to my IceToolz chain wear tool it is showing no signs of wear.
