  1. Nope, not us. It was originally my plan to do a fast-ish 21 at Jakaranda, but the children are a bit gatvol at sleeping over at ouma and oupa the whole time... So instead the plan is to do a 20km+ run Saturday morning on our own, with kids only have to be at ouma's place for 2hr. Speaking of long runs. We did a RAC club run again this past weekend. Really enjoy clubruns so much more than races. No fighting traffic or struggling to find parking. No over-crowding..Such a pity that no club in Pretoria offers the same.
  2. Software bug?? I had a VW Polo that every now and again would swop the buttons for the electric windows around (i.e. the right button would open left window). I figured out if I lock and unlock the car via the remote it 'resets' the car's computer and it is fine again.... But on a more serious note, I think it is maybe due to you compensating or protecting the injured leg, causing problems to show up on the opposite leg?
  3. I achieved my marathon PB on Deloitte. Started with club-mates (way way to fast) en blew at 26km. Managed to press the reset button and finished in 3:34.. Went through half way in 1:40. Still, I prefer the ups and downs rather than flat marathon where it feels like you working all the time.
  4. My 2c. Old age I think.... I've been struggling with niggles the past year or so: 1. I've had similar problems with my knee. It has never kept my off the road for more than a week. Never had to go to a physio to sort it out. Has always been a "once-off" occurrence. 2. In January I've felt pain where the ITB meets the bone. This I feel for the first 1~2km then once everything has warmed up I'm okay. It now almost feel hard at that connection point. I have something similar at where my right achilles meets the heel (http://www.foot-pain-explored.com/haglunds-deformity.html) 3. Since injuring my back about 2 years ago, and resulting nerve damage, my left calve hasn't been the same. On hard/speed sessions I can feel my calve going numb/dead. And most nights I will wake up with the calve in spasm and cramping. Good luck with your injuries. But I'm pretty sure you will be okay sooner rather than later.
  5. Did a bit of googling. I see the Garmin pod is only compatible with Fenix 5, 735 and the 935... So if you were to hypothetically get a cheap-ish fenix 3, you will need the HRM strap... Edit: I see shaper posted this already..
  6. I haven't commented on this thread previously, but has been following it for some time now. I'm a sucker for house renovation and really envy you! Can't stop working at our house, much to the frustration of my wife.. What is the plan for your roof?? Keep the slate/stone roof?
  7. Enjoy. Looks like favourable running weather in the Cape (I want to say unfortunately, because the Cape really needs some rain...). CT marathon also on my list for some time in the future, but flying down to the Cape 3/4 times a year is bit to hard for a government worker at this point in time.
  8. Thought about if for just a second, but no. I don't see Comrades in my near (or far) future.. But what are my running plans/goals for next year? Definitely Two Oceans. And then a few trail runs (Whale of Trail and Mount-Aux-Sources are very, very high on my list).
  9. My accommodation is booked as well... And we (my wife and I) have entered giant's cup trail run as well. End-of-the-month salticrax for me until June 2018 it seems....
  10. It is the dust and dry weather that has really had an impact on me this winter. Stuffy nose and irritated throat for the past 3 months. I really had to HTFU in August to get going. But so far looking okayish. Mileage not as high as it can be(as mentioned in previous post to be 30-40km week), but more importantly cruising speed has improved by ~30sec/km compared to April. Now just to lose a bit weight I picked-up over winter.
  11. I personally can't wait for the Gauteng storm season to come. I'm a bit gatvol of the this winter - especially here in Irene were it is at least 5 degrees colder than any other place in Centurion. Really a mission to train in the mornings.
  12. I'm (luckily) not struggling with any injuries. I'm just struggling to get my running mojo back. Plodding away and doing only 30-40km a week. Feeling tired, but is mostly due to the children disturbing our sleep at night
  13. Good luck with the move! About 10 years ago I had the opportunity to go live and work in Europe in Northern Germany, but now with children (who mainly speak Afrikaans) that is not a possibility for us anymore. But looking back, everything always work out as it should....
  14. Just out of curiosity - are you still planning to do Comrades in future(for instance next year), or do you think it is not going to be worth the hassle?
  15. You need to be (or close to) the Royal Natal National Park if I remember correctly, but I can be mistaken. From Golden Gate to Royal Natal Bergville area is 100km+.
  16. Wrong Wildseries race I think.... As far as I know Glen Reenen Campsite is in Golden Gate National park...
  17. Agree. Last year we stayed in accommodation off campus. Some very nice places in and around Magoebaskloof. Was very nice and affordable (Entry was R650pp and accommodation R2000 for the both of us). Just extremely tough. After day 1 I said stuff this - I'm not going back for day 2.... But glad I changed my mind, because day 2 is stunning! I think we/I will be back next year.
  18. Lekker big mountains that side of KZN... Check out Giant's Cup trail run. Oxpecker is R2200 for next year. They have added a third (longer option) now as well.
  19. How is your knee and leg? Everything back to or as close to normal again?
  20. African X was R8600 for the entry. Add R6000 for plane tickets. Add another R2000 for car hire drive to the event.....and leave the car there for ~3 days in the sun and drive back - so you don't even use the car. So all-in-all it was more than R16k. You can easily add another R1k or more just for snacks and water (we bought bottled water at - stomach bugs/problems are for FREE)!
  21. Glad to hear I'm not the only one struggling. I've been sick now for almost 2 months. I have basically cancelled any "big" races I had planned. The only race more than 32kmm now planned for the year will be Tough One. For the rest I will stick to shorter distances and can hopefully get a bit of speed into my legs. But every run feels like a suffer fest - I'm not even trying to do work quality into my runs at the moment..
