  1. Go to Finish Time results, find your friends results ... click on the camera icon next to the flag. Seems they are still sorting, but at least this is happy start for your friend
  2. Would love to see Speed Company shake the tree a bit with their flat out approach ....
  3. Ride report please BEST wishes for your ride.
  4. Just order your @Titan Racing Bikes πŸ‘
  5. Dont let @NotSoBigBen see this .... πŸ˜› Few years back he made it CLEAR to me that my HT with gravel tyres does not a gravel bike make. I still have the HT with 50mm gravel tyres, love it ! But with a real drop bar gravel bike added to the growing family, I now understand why @NotSoBigBen feels strongly on this. A "real gravelbike" is vastly different to a HT with gravel tyres. All that said, I enjoy my gravel bike on our bad tar roads .... For corrugations, give me some suspension up front ....
  6. I was just too happy to pick up his "granny gear" setup his bike came with originally. Also did not ask what he put on. With the speeds you two were doing at 36one-half it certainly has enough top-end for the average rider πŸ‘
  7. @BuffsVintageBikes do you know which crankset Mark fitted to his gravel bike, to gain top speed ?
  8. Just read a bit before "flipping the chip" ... as the rear tyre moves BACK, the brake spacer is also flipped to move the caliper back to match. I still want to try this.
  9. Their entry level gravel bikes are 2x. According to sales staff at 3 of our bigger bikeshops they dont do 2x in the higher spec bikes. Sure would be interesting if @Titan Racing Bikes confirms it can be done ....
  10. You can also add the following to your list of key deciders : 1x or 2x ? I wanted top speed, but I NEED a granny gear, thus a 2x was a decider for me. Most of the nicer new gravel bikes only come in 1x, so may quickly shorten your list. Intgrated cables, i.e. through the headset, seems to be the flavour of the month. Nice little tax come service time. Very limited options now with cables passing outside the headset, then into the frame. Giant Revolt ticked the boxes for me, in their alu version. I do believe they have a carbon version, not sure of stock levels. Merida seems to have stock in gravel bikes, both in alu and carbon versions. Not sure of their sram vs shimano offerings. Certainly integrated cables. TitanRacing only has 1x options in their nicer bikes, same as various other brands.
  11. This one of the nicer sections .... along these service roads
  12. Today certainly is a notch up from Sunday !
  13. Well done. Best wishes for your week ahead.
  14. Watching them blast through that gate at the top of the vineyard of Missing link Camera does not do justice to the limited space either side of the bars ... Couple of spots where I recall us struggling with some sections, and these ladies and gents make it look so easy πŸ‘ Really grateful for the coverage.
  15. Are you talking of "rear door bike racks" ? https://thulestore.co.za/bike-racks-carriers/bike-racks/rear-door-bike-racks Best check with the manufacturer of the bike rack, noting which car you have. Thule does for MOST cars, but in some instances they exclude vehicles with high level spoilers or similar that can get damaged, or which influence how the rack fits. If you go down this road, read up a bit on Bike Hub about how to protect your paintwork, as the straps and rack can move slightly and scratch your vehicle. Easy enough to protect your car. This certainly is the most common rack in bike parks.
  16. I agree with you 100%, both on the up and down sections. Yet, one has to wonder .... surely there are going to be many more such steep sections in the next week. Only a select few can power a 40 ring up there, at what point do the walkers need to re-think their gearing for this event ? At least it is easy to adjust gearing .... late in the day if you cant manage the Dorstberg single track ....
  17. Some hot days Some wet days Opens up the odds between the teams ....
  18. Okay, you missed my next post. Couple of the early riders were walking the DOWN single track. Short of a technical that did not make any sense .... thus my question.
  19. @Titan Racing Bikes looking GOOD πŸ‘
  20. Blind stoker on the tandem. RESPECT !
  21. Next video shot is a typical Tygerberg single track, slightly loose, not steep, certainly not technical ...riders going through the brush to get past slow riders ... then the odd walker ...
  22. Real question .... why do people enter the Epic when they have to walk the first single track ? EDIT - As per my next post, referring to the early riders walking the DOWN single tracks ...
  23. https://www.facebook.com/100045542240777/posts/1305011237693605/?mibextid=rS40aB7S9Ucbxw6v
  24. SO true ! Sure, there is a measure of safety when dealing with somebody that has been around a long time and has many positive reviews. But even they started out new .... Bought a bike fork 2 weeks ago from a gent that registered purely to sell this one item. Must admit I looked at the address and thought it is a safe area, THUS I will give it a try .... turns out he is one very nice guy ! As much as we have to be careful, a "new account" is probably not the key decider ... though it does make one look more carefully at the rest of the signs ....
  25. Now THAT is something to fall back for, and most certainly a valid reason to pitch in and help. RESPECT to these towers. And thanks to all the helpers. The joy they bring to those FAMILIES, not just the kid in the buggy. Absolute heros !
