  1. Really is doable. A friend did her first Comrades at age 50 in 2022. Due to various reasons she could only start the dedicated training about 8 or 9 weeks before Comrades. It was most interesting to observe her training program. Even training to walk those long hills at 60km ... for somebody that does not walk that was a mindshift !! Then dot watching on race day. She stuck to her pace, walked that monster hill, then back on pace. Finished on planned time. It was amazing to watch this unfold, from training to race day. IT CAN BE DONE. BEST wishes with your training, and on race day 👍
  2. Thank you for the race report. SUCKS being THAT close, and not finishing. But surely the correct call. BEST wishes with your Comrades training.
  3. Most likely a 1 April post that is being copied without the orginal date .... Saw a LOT of 1 April stuff being re-posted on Sunday.
  4. Bit of history - June 2020 Gert already commented on the ongoing efforts by our fearless leaders to deal with the ever changing landscape of e-mobility. SA may be getting new rules on what qualifies as a bicycle – with big implications for e-bikes - Gert Nel Inc Attorneys Worth noting that only a few weeks earlier the "vehicle codes" were updated - see attached. This new round of publicity is as a result of the 10 December 2024 Gazetted latest set of rules for motor vehicles. Mostly it reads the same as the older set, but now sub-paragraph (iv) have been added, dealing with "environmentally friendly vehicles" that exceed 45km/h. - new rules also attached. Side by side the two sets of rules read as follows - PS - The term "Environmentally friendly vehicle" is not defined in this document. It does seem to be associated with electric cars, or in this case electric motorcycles. This create an opening for using an e-scooter limited to below 45km/h, as a non-motor vehicle, i.e. non registered. (not that I would want to be in traffic on a scooter that cant keep up with the cars) PPS - The concept of a law being promulgated in December, then only being discussed a few months later is sadly an all too common occurrence !! We see this most every Building code that is published. We see the draft copy, it goes quiet for months often years, then you hear is was promulgated a month or three earlier. PPPS - The topic of licenses for bicycles comes up every so often. To date this is not in line with the "motor vehicle" Regulations. As such any such fees would be in the form of a By-law, for and by each City or province. In summary - NOTHING has changed in terms of bicycles nor e-bikes. Not in terms of national regulations. Now the difference between National laws being promulgated, and each province or large city publishing their own By-laws is a whole different topic. My google searches only shows the City of Cape Town reaching out the Regulator asking for clarity on the new motor vehicle code. No mention of a CoCT By-law on this, not yet. 5. Trailseeker do have a 40km route. But certainly do bring your legs !!! Also only 1 or 2 per area for the year. But well organised and well worth supporting. The Worcester valley had so many "farm races" .... would love it if some of these make a come back. Fine Breede has a some special memories for us, would really like to do it again.
  6. Now when that thing bashes into your car .... It is you and your insurance .... most of us dont have the time or resources to try and get anything from that driver. And as per the MrD business model, good luck trying to pin the damages on a business owner. Only time these owners will show their face is when the traffic cops start impounding these things. It is as easy as: - battery - yes - throttle - yes - Licenced and registered - no - IMPOUND ...
  7. In summary, South African legislation has only made significant provision for E-bikes that are bicycles with pedals, have continuous power not exceeding 250watt and do not exceed 25km/h. MANY of the e-delivery bikes do not comply with this, beit the speed assist speed, motor power, and many have a throttle.
  8. "for now" being the key phrase ....
  9. Garmin Connect+? Netflix ? This can get interesting ...
  10. I mostly think and record in bar .... but the psi measurements on the gauge is just so much easier to read
  11. NOPE, you are deluded if you think you are ever in control of that situation. READ the accounts of those that have been bike-jacked. Even some seriously big gents that can handle themselves. I am not ignoring your point. Simply stating outright that you are WRONG.
  12. Have YOU been in a bike-jacking ? Or have you been in a situation where you had barely a few seconds to react to an attempted bike jacking ? Unfortunately I have been in an attempted bike-jacking. The first signs were no more than two "pedestrians" acting strange, you cant draw a gun on every second pedestrian .... by the time the attempted bike-jacking started, it was all over in two seconds !! Taking my hands off the bars to reach for any sort of weapon at that stage would have been impossible. The real issue .... you never look at any "pedestrian" the same ... In a Rambo situation it would be nice to permanently take out this scum .... in real life it does NOT work like that.
  13. Good and safe run to the Two Ocean participants
  14. would be interesting to hear from the frequent flyers .... If you are worried, maybe reduce to 0,5bar below the rated maximum for the tyre. Not as if we typically use such high pressures in any case.
  15. I have done this on a new tyre fit. Topping up .... the syringe works very nice
  16. Have to agree. Not elegant, but I remove the core and slip a tube over the valve with a cyringe on the other end. Syringe is velcrowed to the spokes. Now I can measure out and add sealant without any fuss. Clean the inside of the valve with an earbud, fit core, pump up. New tyres gets popped on first.
  17. @DieselnDust have been talking about these in his epic thread ....
  18. Welcome to SA ..... November / December there were a fair selection of Giant available. 3 or 4 Merida .... Just after I picked up the Giant Revolt a shipment of Merida landed ..... One brand at a time in over supply, and the rest minimal ....
  19. Janos, Evobikes, knows me well enough .... 2x 1 liter bottles at a time .... Topping up the odd tire before a race use minimal. Then when I do get to that 3 month service ... 4 of 5 bikes later, that is a lot of sealant !! Must admit ... have not tried filling a tyre with it though ...
  20. We used it for about 5 years. Both as tubeless, but also in tubes when Maritz had the smaller bikes. EXCELLENT !! Only one issue ... fine for MTB pressures, as soon as the pressure increase to large volume gravel tires ... it keeps on spraying and only starts sealing when the pressure has dropped. Some allmighty messes with small glass cuts ..... Started switching all our bikes over the Enduroseal about 3 years ago. No issues with low or higher (gravel) pressures.
  21. Go back a page or two. Very specific application process to be followed.
  22. Between the two of you, the rest of us get a nice wholistic picture ... keep it up
  23. Worth trying Enduroseal. It most certainly last a lot longer than "30 days". Out of habit I do top up at around 3 months, up to that point it works perfectly.
  24. Evobike has Endoruseal 👍
  25. Now here is a truly radical thought ... Are you suggesting law enforcement actually start WORKING ....
