  1. Thank you Had to smile at a few things that ring too true 😋 I am doing a 4 hour event in May. Would suck big time if the VivoActive battery decides to not last .... sounds like a perfectly good excuse, sorry, reason to upgrade. Seems the GPS use battery time of the Amoled version and the MIP Solar versions are very similar. Sure, the Solar has longer smart watch battery time. Do you have any practical experience of Amoled vs Solar screens ? Seems the market is moving to Amoled.
  2. Getting to the office before sunrise at the moment ....
  3. SPUR withdrew as main sponsor. But the SERIES is still very much alive and well, run by CSA-Schools.
  4. WEL gedaan 👍 Daai seine op die trails is om WEG te kom van die fone ... 😛
  5. Found a nice break down of expeced battery time on Garmin's manual - In short, going from 5 hours "GPS time" on a VivoActive to at least 34 hours. Using solar the time could be much longer .... Which begs the question - what other functions do the runners suggest I should consider .... Though battery time is an important part of this discussion, I dont want to get blind sided because I may have tunnel vision at the moment. Thanks for your thoughts.
  6. As I spend more time outside with Park Walks my Garmin VivoActive4 battery is struggling to keep up. PS - It most certainly is delivering the "GPS hours" as advertised, I am simply using that up too quickly ... struggling to get two full days between charges. Would love to know which watches the runners use. Ideally still in the Garmin eco-system. When looking at the Garmin Instinct series ... . The 50mm version seems to have a LOT more battery time than the 45mm . Wondering how the "solar" versions work in real life .... does it actually assist in a longer battery life ? . Where do they "hide" the solar panel ? . Thus far most sites just show the "battery time in smart mode" ... any idea of the "battery time in GPS mode" ? (I will continue to search and update this line when I get this information) . Should add I am not fussed about storing music on the watch. Interesting how "some features" are kept for the more $$$ models ... As a side note .... . From the VivoActive 4/5 to the Venu 3 is a nice jump in "smart functions" . Going from the VivoActive 4/5 to the Instinct 3 no extra "smart functions", but a step up in sports functions. Thankfully I am not pushing the boundaries on the smart functions.
  7. NOT good for those that barely made the cut yesterday. Personally I can cope with the 40 degrees, (for a bit ... did my Rapha in those conditions, riding past Malmesbury and Paarl). But once it gets hot and humid I suffer ! This is turning into a real tester of a race.
  8. Truly a sad day in the sport. Today should start cooling down ... just hope it is not hot and humid as the rain moves in. Hope your team mate recovers well enough to complete today. BEST wishes bud !
  9. The 2024 version of this review .... 2 hours .... To be watched after the Epic 👍👍 Thank you
  10. Have we heard from @DieselnDust ?
  11. Thank you for balanced feedback
  12. Post of the year 🤣
  13. Yea, @babse has his hair in twist because I dared to comment on the number of people that walked the Missing Link hill on the Prologue. More to the point, I asked how did people CHOOSE THEIR GEARING if they have to walk the Missing link after the first 20km, as there will be much worse hills to come in the event. But hey, let facts not stand in the way of good gat krap ....
  14. 4 hour CTCT = 17% battery use on the 530. Have done many 8 to 9 hour rides with it. Seriously impressed with mine.
  15. Certainly in line with a dietitian told me. PS - She did her masters in sports nutrition.
  16. Do you possibly have a similar link for their watches ? I have watched a couple (many) of his reviews. Typically it would compare the VivoActive 5 to the Venue 3, especially in terms of functionality ... battery life normally a 30 second side note. His one video comparing the range of watches looked at how it goes from "smart" watches to "runners" watches to the top of the range.... Appologies for the tangent.
  17. It is rumoured the blue light brigade comes out when you are 30 seconds late on the trails ....
  18. Just between us two middle-aged-men-in-lycra .... go onto the CTCT site, click on "The Cape Town Cycle Tour" icon (right-bottom) .... now click on register ..... already up and taking registrations.
  19. That sucks big time. Do you know if your partner can ride tomorrow, as he is being "brought back to the race village" now ?
  20. Happened 2 or 3 years back. Rider effectively becomes a "media bike", in that they may ride, but may not compete ....
  21. As good a place as any to remind the help-my-trap clan .... 1. Read the rules .... at least 3.10 if you dont like reading 2. READ the extracted rule on the entry portal when you select an ebike ... jip, 3.10 3. By the time you read THIS, you have already paid and need to plan your race, sorry fun ride, accordingly ... OOOOOoooooo c r @ p ..... NO, do NOT complete it in 3:10 .... that is the RULE number ....
  22. Mid night tonight the fun starts .... 😛 Thank you @BMCfan entered 👍
  23. Sort of in the same boat .... Started with Polar. Been with Garmin for nearly a decade, bike computers and watch .... completely buying into the ecosystem. I love VivoActive 4 watch. But as I am doing more and more park walks, aqua, gm etc the battery life is becoming an issue. Seldom get two full days, including the various activities. If I do a cycling weekend, thus using the Edge and not the watch, the watch battery life seems fine. Seems more of a GPS battery time thing than an issue with the watch. Currently looking at Garmin watches that provide more battery time, including GPS activities. The price jump to the "big battery" models are "not nice". Now considering alternative brands .... and then get back to the reality that staying in the Garmin ecosystem has significant advantages to keep all stats together ..... Hold on, let me put the watch on the charger while I type ....
  24. Mine is not ready yet. I had a look.
  25. 109km Amish ... some pics loaded 109km e-bike ... some pics loaded 109km tandem .... not finding any .... Seems they have a LOT of searching still to do .... also looking for the Potch teams tandem pics ....
