  1. Not so sure about this though ............................. topic will get to perhaps 15 to 20 posts and then we will see a poster either defending the offense or using the all time favourite, used by 10 year old's all over the world, " everybody does it". Which just goes on to prove that in SA more people still die from stupidity than from Aids!
  2. CSA decreed that all cat's below Junior i.e.U16, U14 cannot get prize money, because they are not really allowed to race? They however still pay the same entry fees; does this also imply that their results are not to be listed ? For the record, the fastest times in the 70 km Pusuit "Men" was actually almost 4 minutes quicker than that posted above and was set by three U16 riders @ 2.07.07 http://www.racetec.co.za/ShowResults.aspx?Option=event
  3. It gets worse ........................ on a few occasions hubbers are selling "as new" at higher prices than "brand new" at CWC ! Dare point this out and you get flamed or accused of spoiling the sale - the impression is almost created that there are a few "predator hubbers" who full well know LBS and online prices, but hope to catch a few newbies .........................
  4. Seems that neither Probike nor Emotion Cycling regard it as necessary to get websites up to date for marketing. Probike is delivering truckloads of Axis A90's to dealers and there is NO detail on the web ............... Brandon's blog on Probike talks about a site up and running in 2012 ???? As Eugene earlier pointed out a Tread mag review might become available - https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/110796-the-axis-a90-and-sub-r-3-k-mtb%E2%80%99s/ Emotion Cycling http://www.emotioncycling.co.za/ on the other hand - same disease i.e. advertises in Tread Mag and already have stock coming from China, but do not even have a Raleigh logo or link on their website, despite the appointment by Raleigh UK surely having been concluded early in 2011 ?? Bearing in mind that this is Christmas shopping time,it just makes no sense! Is it poor planning, poor marketing or is the customers loyalty to the Raleigh brand taken for granted? Or has the Raleigh Probike - Raleigh UK - Raleigh Emotion Cycling deal not been as seamless and troublefree as we have been led to believe ? Suppose only time will tell.

  6. Some hubber help needed. The missus has started with a bit of social mtb’ing and her 15 year old Makro Raleigh, although unused, is just not quite cutting it! I know I can get a lot more bang for buck with a 2nd hand mtb, but would like to buy her something new - her needs are basic and she just wants something to ride a 2 - 5 km trail per week and the occasional bit of road riding with the rest of the family. Went to look at the recently launced Axis A90, which LBS’s are selling @ R 1995 and promoting as the next best thing since sliced bread. Spec's are simply not available on www, but it looks like a decent entry level alloy MTB. It is simply not within my nature to buy something even at this price point, without comparing with other sub R 3 000 bikes; trawling the web, the following 2010 and 2011 bikes appear: KHS Alite 150 R 2 999 Serfas XC3V R 2 600 Serfas XC3D R 2 895 Avalanche ATX 250 R 1 940 Avalanche ATX 275 R 2 280 Silverback Stride R 2 345 Silverback Oakland R 2 935 Raleigh Nomad 80 R 2 599 Titan Cruz R 2 300 Titan Sport Calypso R 2 800 Scott Aspect 60 R 2 699 Height 1.58 m / inseam 74 cm so I think she needs a small in most makes. Any recommendations ? Bikes to avoid ? Bikes that I should consider that is not listed?
  7. Yes, definitely but only within your R 1500 to R 2000 price range. If you want a LOT better, you will have to spend a lot more.
  8. Planet X have a decent set at only R 1 510 http://www.rapide.co.za/pPLANET%20X%20MODEL%20B%20ALLOY%20WHEELSET/Planet-X-Model-B-Alloy-Wheelset.aspx
  9. If it's a road carbon frame, what about this one ? http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.za/pJAVA%20AP07%20FRAMESET/Java-AP07-Frameset.aspx
  10. The Bible describes it as a fruit, so not necessarily an apple, but lets agree for purposes of this thread that it was an apple .......... just now calling it a fruit starts off a whole debate about gay cyclists
  11. http://www.gotquestions.org/Saturday-Sunday.html Good material explaining the historical angles.
  12. The made in the east/china = bad quality is in many (not all!) instances a carefully crafted myth by suppliers of over priced products. If you are selling something with a production cost of R 3 000 and choose to retail it at R 30 000, it becomes VERY difficult to justify your price so the temptation to market by “knocking” your cheaper opposition is very tempting, especially in a recession. This myth is then fuelled even further by posts such as these …… History simply repeats itself – in the sixties and seventies everything from the East was regarded as “jap scrap” and we were told that they could invent nothing and could only make replicas and fakes of so-called superior European designs and products; today Japanese vehicles, sound systems, cameras etc. are the most sought after products in the World – even in the big consumer market in the USA, a Lexus outranks almost all German car makers in the desirability stakes. Just look at how sought after Hyundai as Korean car has become in the SA Market – when it entered the SA market in the 90’s and car manufacturers started losing large chunks of market share, every car manufacturer and their dealers went out of their way to tell everybody what rubbish Hyundai made ………. Now less than 20 year later most car dealers pay above retail prices to get their hands on Hyundai Tucson’s. And, no, I don’t have a Chinese no name brand frame. Probike is mentioned by the OP - does anyone know where their old brand Raleigh & new brands Axis & Scott are manufactured ?
  13. There are a number of the especially smaller affiliates that are keen to go it alone i.e. without CSA, but they are concerned about the long term effect on cyclists in their provinces. There is no doubt that individuals or organisations behind the scenes control things at CSA - methinks that was part of Mr Lemmer's frustrations; politics play a massive role and amongst other things, a transformation agenda is being vigorously pursued in order to access all important funding from Government & Lotto. As example look at the following document re. Youth Development Events http://www.cyclingsa.com/App_Resources/Uploads/FILE00000445.pdf where under Team composition, the following appears: Type A category (Junior Men, Junior Women, U/16 Boys and U/16 Girls) 1. 6 male cyclists, which must have a team composition of 4 cyclists from one cultural background with an additional two from a different cultural background. 2. 2 female cyclists from any cultural background. 3. If the 4 male riders are predominantly white, then the PDI riders must be of colour. 4. If the 4 male riders are predominantly of colour, then the additional 2 cyclists should be white. 5. If teams do not have the above mix of riders they will be penalized with - 50 points. Effectively it means that this team cannot win the team competition. 6. Should affiliates be unable to field a team of the correct demographics, they may still compete, but will do so as incomplete teams, and will not be eligible for the team competition. They may compete in the inter-provincial competition, but will be penalized accordingly. Makes interesting reading and the remainder of the document is filled with political catchphrases, buzzwords, double-speak, gobbledygook
  14. Yes, heard about this. The UK operation is closing to move offshore to merge with CWC in Cape Town. This solves all hubber problems and worship posts can now be combined. , whilst those that complain on the hub can now be jointly flamed To those that insist that you dare not complain or email BEFORE you have at least phoned, a nightmare awaits ! It's no longer going to be only "did you phone Chris Snr and Chris Jnr", but have you phoned Ian, Frank, Peter, Roger, William, Butch, Gerald and another 50 sales staff at CCWRC Chris Chain Willemse Reaction Cycles
  15. "I did not see you" has become somewhat of a standard response, used by motorists who think they can get away with out accepting responsibility for their actions - almost as if not seeing the cyclist entitles or justifies them to hit him/her ! Cyclists can in many instances do much to improve their visibility, but in a sense visibility, as motorist defence, is of no relevance. Should a motorist hit and kill a pedestrian crossing the road, it's more than likely going to be a culpable homicide case; to have noticed someone "visibly"crossing the road and reacting accordingly by stopping or slowing down, is very much what the Court is going to be expecting from a reasonable and responsible motorist. In daylight conditions there should be no excuse and at night the cars headlights should make everything in the road visible - more so cyclists with lights than the average pedestrian that is not compelled by law to have lights fitted! Whilst their can be mitigating circumstances, there is really no excuse that should let the motorist off the hook by not paying all costs ! When a motorist drives into something or someone, it will be an accident, if he did not cause it intentionally i.e. the "I did not see you" defence, but he should still be held responsible for the accident caused and must be prosecuted for reckless and negligent driving.
  16. Service was great, but agree 100% with you about postage/shipping costs. They are not at all willing to look at alternatives to make it cost effective to the consumer, which is a rather strange business model to have when you are an online retailer competing with free shipping from CRC and cost effective options by CWC. After buying a Rudy helmet from CWC that had no crash replacement warrantee as it was not sourced via ASG SA , I was keen to give Buycycle a try as they confirmed crw on Rudy Helmets and stated per their website BuyCycle© guarantees no ‘grey imports’, which means that all products on the BuyCycle© website is covered by the normal warranty that would apply if you bought the same goods in a normal retail shop in South Africa. I compiled a substantial online order based on specials they advertised, hit the shipping costs button and was horrified to note that shipping via their couriers made all items ordered more expensive than at my LBS ! Was in no hurry to receive the goods so emailed them to suggest SAPO domestic parcel route, but after a number of emails received a firm NO, WE ONLY DEAL WITH OUR COURIERS reply. In the end canned the whole idea of a big order and simply bought the Rudy Helmet marked down from R 2 000 to R 799, paid R 75 shipping and received it 2 days later. Have since compared their normal prices with a few LBS's and have found very little, if anything, much cheaper so will in future only consider shopping at Buycycle when goods are heavily marked down or clearance specials
  17. Below the links to CSA website where the income statement and balance sheet at 31 August 2011 can be found - this shows how much they receive, what they spend it on and what the own & owe http://www.cyclingsa.com/App_Resources/Uploads/FILE00000628.PDF http://www.cyclingsa.com/App_Resources/Uploads/FILE00000627.PDF It would be interesting to know whether the problems relate to funds received but badly spent/wasted OR whether funds via for example LOTTO that perhaps went missing before "reaching" CSA ..............

  19. If we assume that people at the top refers to who else appears on the CSA letterhead i.e. Greg Till (President), William Newman (Vice President), Mark Bradley (Financial Trustee), Ernst van Dyk (Rider Representative), Thokozile Mhlanga (Additional Trustee), Margot Gerber (BMX), Andrew Nicholson (MTB), Hendrik Lemmer (Road), Corne Bence (Track), Mike Burns (Paracycling), Roger Bouton (Transformation & Development), Louis Rossouw (Technical), David Bellairs (Recreational) who is next to show some balls or will his resignation become the glue to keep the remainder together ?
  20. No, I did not miss out or misunderstand the (or any?) part of the thread .............. I stay in the "town" where Probike warehouse is located and have regular dealings with the dealers they distribute to. I am well aware that they do not distribute Raleigh anymore (knew about this long before their press releases were issued), but I am also aware of the fact that there are a number of warrantee matters that date back to long BEFORE they stopped distributing the Raleigh brand that has NOT been satisfactorily attended to. It is nonsense to suggest that they cannot source Raleigh frames, now that they no longer distribute it; they had a number of frames still in stock when distribution ceased and many of their dealers also carried stock that they could "buy" back. Nothing stopped them from sourcing via Raleigh UK/ Emotion Cycles. Eugene in reply to whether Probike sorted out his problem states " No. Raleigh UK say Probike is liable, Probike say Raleigh UK is liable ......" and indicates that he has been offered a Scott at a discount. Look695 indicates "My friend has got a similar dispute going on with probike with a Raleigh warranty claim" Also see posts about Scott supply problems https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/108914-how-to-order-a-scott-bike-and-actually-receive-it/ and comments by Chris Willemse. Point I am raising ( and as per usual Hub ethics, feel free to agree or disagree )is that with it known that Probike struggled to sort out all Raleigh issues, are they to be trusted with Scott i.e. in Eugene's case, should he buy a Scott at a discount or insist on a Probike cash settlement that will enable him to buy another brand of bike? Are Raleigh customers going to migrate to the Scott brand ( Probike), will they remain with Raleigh ( new distributors) or will they look elsewhere ?
  21. If they cannot sort out your Raleigh claim, what happens if you have problems with a Scott ? Remember it is still the same distributor Probike, just a different bike brand ! Maybe time to consider a completely different brand ?
  22. Question: "What does the Bible mean that we are not to judge others?" Answer: This is an issue that has confused many people. On one hand, we are commanded by the Lord Jesus, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged” (Matthew 7:1). On the other hand, the Bible also exhorts us to beware of evildoers and false prophets and to avoid those who practice all kinds of evil. How are we to discern who these people are if we do not make some kind of judgment about them? Christians are often accused of "judging" whenever they speak out against a sinful activity. However, that is not the meaning of the Scripture verses that state, "Do not judge." There is a righteous kind of judgment we are supposed to exercise—with careful discernment (John 7:24). When Jesus told us not to judge (Matthew 7:1), He was telling us not to judge hypocritically. Matthew 7:2-5 declares, "For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." What Jesus was condemning here was hypocritical, self-righteous judgments of others. In Matthew 7:2-5, Jesus warns against judging someone else for his sin when you yourself are sinning even worse. That is the kind of judging Jesus commanded us not to do. If a believer sees another believer sinning, it is his Christian duty to lovingly and respectfully confront the person with his sin (Matthew 18:15-17). This is not judging, but rather pointing out the truth in hope—and with the ultimate goal—of bringing repentance in the other person (James 5:20) and restoration to the fellowship. We are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). We are to proclaim what God's Word says about sin. 2 Timothy 4:2 instructs us, "Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction." We are to "judge" sin, but always with the goal of presenting the solution for sin and its consequences—the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6). 23. No argument or debate - from one Christian to another a few resources that make worthwhile reading http://www.gotquestions.org/homosexuality-Bible.html http://www.gotquestions.org/born-gay.html http://www.gotquestions.org/gay-Christian.html The Bible quotes you list have a very specific meaning within a very specific context and cannot be used within the context of gay issues ........ a bit like riding a 29'er in a road race.
  24. Yeah, maybe we have a airbender clone on the loose ............ similar grammar and excessive use of the word cool ( out of context)
  25. This fred simply presents too many opportunities to ignore ! Would pumpkin king be interested in the Thule Bike Carrier advertised in classifieds ? It is listed as Strap On
