  2. see this, could be well used if commutings a bit far or up and through mountains. http://www.popularmechanics.co.za/content/greatstuff/singlepage.asp?fid=2917&pno=1 2l/100km...
  3. But why then not ride, I mean...huh. Isn't the spirit of the sport to attend. Have the team picked him, is he in Aus?
  4. True, the chances of you getting robbed/killed in civilised countries are much lower than in this f&&*(()ed up place. And when you get attacked, don't dare to defened yourself because you may be charged with assault, attempt to murder, murder!
  5. I dont' see it as a hijack though. what I'm seeing is making a difference to the lives of the family of the rider. But that is why, when you start cycling, or any sport for that matter you take out insurance. Making a difference to the number of cyclists killed/injured or even the slaughtering on our(cyclists/pedestrians/motorists) roads in general doesn't really happen. The only way you gonna make a difference in this country is to make a big noice.
  6. Didn't know him personally , but RIP!
  7. You didn't give the excuse...
  8. true, what I'm getting, as GOG says, its rather about two groups of people not willing to give an inch. When the roads are very quiet, we ride two abreast, enjoying a bit of the freedom , but , we check whats going on behind us for upcoming traffic and go single file if required. Lots of cyclists out there also don't gives a ratts ass about anyone else!
  9. and in the US you go to traffic school for a day, to get the fine squashed and prevent your insurance premium from going up! They don't take crap there.
  10. http://velonews.competitor.com/2010/09/news/aussie-cops-want-to-cyclists-on-world-championship-course-to-behave_143424 Wonder what the aussie cops will do with the cyclists. They're known for having strict punishment when you don't obey the laws.
  11. So true. Whats also sad is the people who complained about others breaking the law are ususally breaking the law themselves. "The cyclists are riding all over the road while I drive over the speed limit, talking on my cellphone, without seatbelt, kid not strapped in kiddy seat..."
  12. Too big a change too quickly...rather build up slowly towards those times. 16HRS a week, thats big.
  13. +1
  14. Alibaba and the 40 thieves, ya it probably is...
  15. I have two interval sessions in the week, one gets replaced with hillwork next week... 3k hill 4k from home. Ignore the lactose threshold stuff unless you are a top sprinter.
  16. I think if you get one of the popular brands (Met, Giro, Bell and others) you should be fine. Broke a Met Stradivarius in 3 a couple of years ago. No concussion whatsover. So,I suggest go for something ±R1500...
  17. I understand from the reports that the taxi came past and suddenly stopped... or is that inaccurate? Anyway, RIP to the cyclist. And note to the riders in front, INDICATE... and be aware when taxis go past you. They will just pull over in front of you like you don't exist. They don't have any regard for human live, not their own!
  18. Awesome... but WTF is this, 3 weeks in a row in Gauteng?
  19. are you on crack?
  20. MyGT, well said. My point... What the &*^*( is this thread about? Some people people p[1ss you off, and you are gonna get aggresive. How simple is it? And who is the so-called big club? If you don't like the heat, stay out. If you let one or two people let you stay away, be my guest. Should one always be happy and high everyday. Should one now keep your opinion to yourself because its aggressive to some. Hmmmm .... maybe I shouldn't go there...
  21. How sure are you of that?
  22. Oudtshoorn, what a place. You want woman, you go to the Spur tomorrow evening. As for my plans... I never plan! Planning is for girls!
  23. http://www.nuus24.com/Suid-Afrika/Nuus/Fietsryer-sterf-in-ongeluk-20100920 Sad - RIP!
  24. ...read the fine print! Once a week on the dragstrip..., once a week into the gate, into the garage wall And dont' forget those short sprints. From gate into the garage, going up to 40km/h and then the sudden stop just before the wall. or the wall sometimes stop them!
  25. Ok, my % not so low... breakfast most important. lunch, and dinner. Snacks inbetween, lots of fruit and verggies. Portion size is also important. Should consist of mostly carbs, then protein and then fat. I do - cereal with rice milk, snack - a little pasta and boiled egg. snack - an orange lunch - rice and chicken and a plum snack - banana dinner - potatoe /fish, mixed veg...
