  1. And here, Mr Potato, is the crux of the matter. Do you position your business as ethical and fair by offering a good purchase price and likewise a good selling price (at a reasonable % markup) hereby developing an excellent business reputation where clients old and new are more than happy to deal with you. If your business is based on extortionate prices where you purposely offer ridiculously low prices and then sell at the highest prices possible you ultimately lose your reputation as not being a desirable company to deal with. A bad reputation doesn't always close a business down but does throttle sales when customers are turned away from doing business! Long live BikeHub, long live...🤭
  2. Hey mate. The Polar H10 HRM's have replaceable batteries (not sure if you're aware - but guessing that you should be). Cleaning the battery terminals is another option. Also don't wash them in cold water after wearing them for a while as condensation might form on the inside if the unit is hot and the water is cold. The same applies to watches. You can always send them into the agents to have them checked out if there's a problem!
  3. I'm a POLAR believer...for life. Chest straps last a very long time if rinsed and washed with mild soap in shower after ride. Hang vertically, don't bend otherwise rubber and takes strain (can crack over time). Rinse the HRM device and wipe the metal connectors dry. Never seen any rust and they are considered the most accurate HRM. THE H10 unit can connect to two devices simultaneously so its handy on a smart trainer when you also want to record the ride on your watch. Battery changing is also simple. In 7 years I've only gone through one belt that has a crack in it. Although it still works I feel I can't rely on it 100%. Good luck with your choice.
  4. What I sometimes do if I'm only mildly interested in an advert is, open it then click on the phone number so it's visible then do a screenshot. That way, if I realise that I'm really interested in the purchase later on and want to follow up, I've got the full details of the advert with the user name and cell number. That also works if you make a instant decision to buy something and phone the seller (who then agrees on the sale with you), who then immediately deletes the advert and you're left scratching your head on what the price was for the item or his BikeHub details - coz he (and his advert) has now effectively disappeared from BikeHub (but you do still have his cell number tho).
  5. Consider that an honour brand (maybe most dedicated brand ambassadors should get one). Or a gang tat(oo) depending on how rad it looks. Your choice...
  6. Nick sells his owns wheels - that's his business! Ask him for a quote on your requirements. I'm 68 kg's so (to my calculations) the lighter you are the better the benefit of lighter wheels. (They spin up quicker when accelerating and help with hill climbing due to lower weight). I'm not sure whether full retail price gives the best VFM. I've bought 2½ carbon wheelsets on BH and happy with them and great VFM. The main advantage of a full retail price is that the wheels come with a warranty (read the fine print of the warranty conditions).
  7. Hi, it's usually not worth selling an old bike because it's hard to get a decent "replacement" value if you had to go out and buy a replacement bike. In a "retro" (old) bike like this it's more valuable to a "collector" if you can find someone who wants to buy it for a sentimental reason. The poor economy (etc.) has slowed the buying of older bikes or N+1 bikes I'm guessing top price of R2,5k if the wheel bearings are still good and that rust hasn't taken over....
  8. Not mentioned above but I purchased some Stan's Valors (carbon 29") about 4 years ago. They are superb and very lightweight, so am I (that makes a great combination). Just purchased another set, second hand (no longer available new) in 27.5 size a few days ago (on BikeHub). Can't wait to fit them and ride.
  9. I'm with the Pinetown Central CPF and hugely aware of staff and vehicle shortages. Our stats are often in the top 30 in the country . We are fortunate to have the buy in from about 8 local security companies who offer their services for patrolling duties and combine with SAPS for organised ops. I agree, it's an uphill battle.
  10. Maybe they should try and recruit informers (what's the expression - it takes a thief to catch a thief??). Is there any way that the environment there can be made more difficult for the perps to hide. Remove trees or low walls. Also add signage of warnings to cyclists or indicate no cyclists allowed 🚳 on that road (if there is an alternative route.
  11. There WAS a strong demand for bikes and bike parts after the COVID lockdowns were implemented. With people being locked in there was a need for exercise and there was a run on indoor trainers then a run on bikes, as public transport was no longer available. Bike parts were also in high demand as people were getting their old bikes out of the garage and getting them roadworthy again (worldwide). I think that we all know these facts and when I approached my local bike shop he complained of not being able to get stock during this period. It appeared that the European market got first dibs when stock became available. Prices increased due to lack of supply when they did become available in SA. This led to the unusually high prices being asked for second hand bikes. Due to that massive run on bikes, trainers and bike parts there has been a general lull (after COVID) in the almost saturated market but there are always new entrants to this sport so bike shops won't stop the marketing to these newbies.
  12. Replying to: Is the Second Hand market dead. Certainly not. It's just struggling coz prices rocketed, with little stock around due to the repercussions of the COVID lockdown. Due to the downturn in the economy (SA's weak economy and worldwide shortages due to the war/s etc.) there's not so much money available for extravagant purchases and folks are more inclined to put money away for a rainy day. However, bargains are still to be gained for the sharp-eyed, quick witted purchaser on Bike-Hub. Unfortunately there can only be one purchaser of a single item so first come (first served) - is the winner. I've made two great purchases this week, so yes, the second hand market isn't dead. So when high priced items aren't selling, they will come down in price. It is often how urgently the seller needs the money will determine how low he is willing to go on price. Happy hunting!
  13. I trust that the local CPF hasn't been infiltrated by gangsters. Can someone from this area get them to comment on this forum??
  14. The local CPF need to pull their fingers out their...* They should organise an operation to trap the perps with SAPS. Also the local security companies operating in the area should strategically position their vehicles to either observe for perps and/or inform cyclists of an alternative route during the known hours of these muggings. Warning signage is also an option. Positioning of CCTV cameras funded by the local community/ businesses to actively monitor the hot spots. BukeHub has a great following. It's about time the membership be used to create petitions to activate authorities to get off their )*( 's and do something about the problem.
  15. Depending on what trail you choose, you might get the "shivers"...
  16. Most likely Holla Trails. About 3 km from Ballito...
  17. I don't know what that is? Maybe others do? Shipwreck at Christmas Bay?
  18. It is as though we need to ride with GoPro's on the back of our bikes as proof of these maniac driver's antics and to record their number plates...
  19. Yeah, I've had an account with them for a bunch of years and it's been 99% successful. With one Pudo parcel I wasn't notified that it had arrived so when I did receive notification to collect it, it had already been cleared out the collection box. Time limits do apply to Pudo. When I contacted them and showed the paper trail they kindly delivered it to my home.
  20. Think you need to get out a bit more often (cabin fever setting in I think) if you talk about an indoor trainer as being a person...😅
  21. Talking about your Bike or Butt...😂
  22. Morning, my guess is 3-5k dependant on whether the bike was recently serviced and whether the the fork was serviced. Older 26" wheel 3x bikes are no longer desirable so are better kept than sold (due to much higher replacement costs). Very often a bike like this can cost a lot getting it back up to full running order. Good luck with sale.
  23. The bike is a good make, the 27.5 wheels are very acceptable. It's pretty much an entry level bike but it should give you good service. As long as the present owner is truthful about the recent servicing then this bike should serve you well. It's a pity you can't go see it or test ride it but sometimes in life we just have to take a chance... Check if there is some wiggle room on price coz you'll have to get it couriered to your place and that will cost a bit. Take the plunge and I hope it works out for you ..
  24. Also an Avalanche Prima Pro Medium size 29" for R5k...check it out.
