  1. I had wanted to do the Easter ride...registered...then didn't know how to access the race...maybe I need to complete one ride before it lets me enter a ride... Any ideas?
  2. I had to reload (update) Rouvy to get it to work...also had to sort out rear derailleur coz it kept dropping off he chain. For some reason it's now not picking up my heart rate and that was the only thing that it picked up before I updated software. So guess Im all ready to ride now??
  3. Just got myself all connected. Please invite me for the following ride (after this one). Many thanks...
  4. Swimming in the sea is hugely different, as stated above. If the swell/waves are big it takes more effort to get out to the backline and one can feel pretty tired after this exertion...if the swell is flat then not so much effort. Once in the backline and around the first buoy pick an object on the skyline (above the next buoy), that you can see easily and swim for that. If there is a big swell you might not be able to see all the buoys/markers. Don't spend too much time looking, it can tire you and slow your rhythm, just swim for your object. When training in a pool, see whether you can swim in a straight line with your eyes closed. Swimming into the lanes on one side will tell you if you have a tendency to turn to the left or right and you can try put a slight correction into every tenth stroke to try keep yourself on line. Also consider currents that will move you inshore or more off-shore. Don't get a skrik at things in the water...keep swimming (in the old days there was a mini wreck off South beach in Durbs and it took me a while to take my focus off what I had seen). Focus on your stroke. Practise breathing then after one stroke look forward to get sight of where you are heading. If you try breathe when looking forward you might end up with a mouth full of water. If you're swimming behind others in a group then let them look and just follow them..this wont work if they're heading off course. Know the shape/colours of the buoys so you know what to look out for. Try and also look forward when you are on the top of the swell and not in a trough otherwise you might not see much. A few breastrokes on top of a swell will help you get your bearings if needed. But most important is to keep CALM and stay focused on your good STROKE.
  5. Hey TyronLab, It looks like you've pretty much worked out your own solutions! (Probably why no one else has answered you)... Tyres should be hard enough to not bottom out and strike the rims and not so soft that you get a "bounce" out of your tyres. Also they must correspond to your own weight. Being 66kg I can run my tyres fairly soft. For a race this weekend my tyres were at 1.8/ 2 bars and they were perfect for all conditions of the XC race. Although I usually use 2.25/2.2 size wheels I put on Ardent race 2.35 rear and ardent 2.4 front - rear new and front nearly new - that gave a lot more comfort with a slight weight penalty and grip was great from front and rear. As tyres wear so they do lose their grip slowly. My old rear tyre was sliding under braking downhill and not gripping sufficiently on climbing up loose gravel and sand. I bought a good second hand set of rims (27.5) and now I can swop out my wheels sets for the type of ride I will go on (a bit of a luxury!) Pedal strikes do happen and often you have to delay a pedal stroke for a moment to clear a large obstacle but not always possible. The Maxxis Crossmark 2 is a good general tyre (for mixed use) for the rear and believe that it is fairly long lasting - ideal for the tar that you spend a fair amount of time on. Hope that you're sorting out your tyre choice there. Good luck.
  6. That ostrich needs to train more...he doesn't hold his line very well!
  7. What does the tick mark in the top right of the panel indicate/do on a mobile (cell)??
  8. I use my mobile (cell) mainly for Bike Hub so SHIFT + ENTER isn't really an option. With WhatsApp you can deselect ENTER to send your message.
  9. Just bought a Tri suit and Tri shoes and a carbon front wheel. I can report that it's easy to purchase on the HUB. While everyone quibbles, I'm picking up some good purchases...the new interface is easy to learn. Some people are very slow to react to messages sent (one took 3 days)...so cell numbers and email is important. Most sales conversations I've had end up on WhatsApp as it's just easier...
  10. Howdy, Just noting that when sending a message to another Hubber in the Classifieds section, everytime you hit the enter button for a line break it then SENDS the message. Can you prevent that from happening?
  11. I agree in general with what you are saying but with only 41 posts...do I have a poor reputation? Going back slightly to what this post is all about.. I have purchased many items on BikeHub but don't have any "points" to add to my reputation. Maybe Kudo's or the like given to buyers would also indicate your worthiness as a purchaser.
  12. With a post count of over 24 thousand... I can see why.
  13. In response to an earlier question...if you open up a Hubbers advert, to then see his other ad's just click on his name lower down and all his other ad's will be displayed. (Discovered that one by accident)
  14. Well said Swift & Aero and Admin. If we call ourselves a CULTURED society then we make the effort to be COURTEOUS. I personally think we should get rid of the post count as there are a small group of people who are ready to COMMENT about simply EVERYTHING, clogging up the "airwaves" in their attempt to boost their "count". Also their elitist display as though they own the Hub due to their count. Maybe this is another factor that should be seriously considered.
  15. I bought two items about two weeks ago (a bike and wheelset) and two more items this week (Polar watch and saddle). I'm having no problems using the new layout/interface - there were a few teething problems. I've still got to figure a few things out but that will come in time (just like a new girlfriend)! Times are tough and money is tight but on all the above items I haggled and got a very good price. The sellers seemed happy to let them go at the agreed prices. Agreed that if you hold on to old technology goods for too long, the demand drops steeply! BikeHub rocks...keep up the good work!
  16. Anything NEW is a mission to learn your way around. It's taken a lot of clicking to figure things out...but I'm getting there. So far it looks like an improvement... THANKS FOR THE UPGRADE. (PS: some pics don't display when you click on them. Stall_Gear said that he couldn't load some images and some of his images don't display when selected.)
  17. Yes, you send a PM and it says "waiting" and doesn't deliver! It has done that a couple of times to me!!
  18. Or is there sufficient place to rest one's wrists on the Aero Bolt-on's. A picture showing hand positions on the Aero Bolt-On's would help...
  19. From the pic above (yellow bar tape) it would appear that the best solution for the Aero Bolt-On would be to combine with your handlebars (same pic) to create a place to rest your wrists. The only reason that I haven't bought the Bolt-On's was that I didn't know what the strain would be on the wrist joints without an adequate rest area for the wrists?? Maybe a combined price for Bars (with those "wings") and the Bolt-On's as a better solution. Would there be any restrictions using these in normal ROAG MTB races??
  20. Sounds great, just wish there was a way of Sellers having to put in Frame Size (and other certain pertinent info) into the Main title...Coz so many adverts are opened up and high excitement levels achieved only to find that its an Extra Large frame or a 9 speed drivetrain...so much time lost!
  21. Fanievb: we all sometimes struggle with motivation... Firstly, be honest with yourself and isolate what is stripping away your motivation... Sometimes its tiredness or the early time that you do your pool training, it could be the cold etc.etc. Change your training plan to get rid of those negative elements...if you're feeling sluggish, train with fins for a while. Sometimes we forget that swimming can also be fun...for the last 5 mins in the pool just muck about, dive in, swim widths under the water holding your breath or if the pool is deep, sink to the bottom and jump back up to the surface. Put the fun back into swimming. If all you do in the pool is just train...then there be no fun in doing it. Hope that some of these ideas work for you??
  22. I bought a Osprey Raptor Viper 9 years ago and have been completely happy. I had a serious fall in a slippery river on one occasion falling directly on my back. Thank goodness for wearing the hydration pack that took the full impact of the fall. It developed a leak near the outlet from the bladder and the bite valve developed a hole. Found the agents in Cape Town, sent the bladder and bite valve to them and received replacements without delay...was impressed. Suggestion: buy a bottle of Collodial silver solution (Biosil is one brand) and put a capful into each filling of your pack. This will keep bacteria and smells at bay.
  23. One of the best start points is the little airport, almost opposite Champagne Sports. Nice places to eat there or from the Bakery a little further down the hill, good meals too. Bike shop and servicing at Mountain Splendour. In May 2018 they chopped down the forest in front of the Bakery spoiling the great single track through the forest. Hope it will be back in order by May 2019... Another option is to take the dust road from Sawmill heading into the Sappi Forest. Great views and a coupe of Strava Segments to chase - if you're that way inclined...
