I think helmet gives some of the best views, Nice because its smooth and looks where you look. But I hate the weight of it on my head. Currently I mount it on my bars, good views of the path, but cant look side to side to side. Also can get bumpy on the down hills. Also those uphills where you go really slowly, and your bars move a lot for balance, makes for crappy video that makes you seasick.
  2. Selle Italia SLR, no question
  3. Those shimanos are nice. I had a pair and found them very comfy. Phone Northcliff cycles and see if they have any more sidis in stock. They were having a 50% off clearance sale, but it is probably have finished the stock by now.
  4. As far as I know, probiotics are not something to "cure" illness, but are the actual bacteria in the stomach that help digestion. They are good bacteria. But antibiotics kill all the bacteria in your body, so when you take them, doctors recommend you replace the good bacteria by taking probiotics. In general, I would say eat some yoghurt every now and then, and unless you taking antibiotics, don't worry about it. To me its one of those "find a problem for a solution" type things.
  5. Wow, the speed they take those downhills is insane.
  6. I have absolutely zero proof that it was the driver, but we have lost a Blackberry cellphone as well as a make up bag (apparently worth more than the phone! lol) which unfortunately we have little other possible way it could have gone missing. Then again I shouldn't have left it in the car. Start line was pretty hectic, so could have misplaced it too. That's why I feel I can't officially blame anyone.
  7. +1 and on top of that it was one of the first, so the lack of originality should be directed at the races that came later. And you think "tour de xxxx" is original? I think its pretty dumb, especially when the non-native language is used.
  8. Quality... Get a swim coach. Will give you the most out of your time for the least effort.
  9. Oh I thought it was a joke. Tough break! Hope you/he can make a plan
  10. Great initiative. Can't make this week end, but I will come on the 26th!
  11. Quit! Lol I will be riding the trail with my fiance, in the lower half of the field I think. Either in Centrum kit or joberg2c kit with my name (Robert) on it. So say hi!
  12. They also have George Clooney in their ads... I think they are doing VERY well. Good to know where all your money goes
  13. Resin. Metal pads make a noise and mine started squeeling. Replaced them, baked them in the oven, cleaned them, sanded them... nothing stopped it. Changed to resin and never had a days problem. To me the braking effect is very similar, I can't say either one stops quicker. Mine seem to have lasted quite long too, and I checked for sani, I still have half the wear left. I have heard that one very muddy day and they will be finished, but with normal riding I haven't seen excessive wear.
  14. There is a sticky (a topic that always stays at the top) in this forum dedicated to tyre pressure. So yes, its been covered
  15. From what I remember from J2c last time is, mornings are pretty chilly, then it warms up nicely. It sucks because you have the choice of taking warm clothes and carrying them the whole day, or else packing them into your box and stand around being cold until the race start.
  16. I have this problem. At the moment I am using Quick time to do a very basic edit (clipping and ordering) then export to the right format and do better editing in WMM. To be honest I wouldn't recommend this route, its also a bit of a schlep. I am waiting to get a better computer, and then I was looking at Pinnacle Studio HD and/or Adobe Premier Elements 10 (Any comments on these GoPro?). From what I have seen they look like good value and ease of use for a beginner.
  17. Thanks for a great race! It was my first XCO race, and I really enjoyed it. Not too technical, but still challenging. The pace of the leaders was insane. Philip B lapped me like I was standing still. Oh well now I have a goal. Definitely have to include more anaerobic training if I want to cope with XC
  18. Please do tell... Last year I had to join CSA, Gauteng and Roag. 75 +75 + 50 = R200. Day licenses were R30 I think. Had to do 7 races to break even. This year cant afford to race as much.
  19. The spot was: if you cross the concrete river crossing, go right and up the hill along the perimeter fence.... Then there's that loong down hill which at the end goes into the three arrow single track towards the jukskei... Well, it was on that down hill, near the top, before it gets very rough. (Don't know if my description is any good)
  20. I rode past you!! Man you looked bad!!! I asked if I could help, and the lady told me to keep going. There were 3 people there with you already. Do you remember what happened? It wasn't in a very technical spot.
  21. Thanks, Entered
  22. Thanks One more thing, if we enter, do we still have to pay entry at the gate on the day?
  23. A friend of mine always talks about the 60:20:20 rule. 60% marketing BS 20% psudo science 20% actual science I think its pretty accurate.
  24. I didnt think it was that high this year, actually. I think its been higher previously. Maybe someone knows the stats? I know the 1st Joberg2c there was a 33% drop out rate, which is much higher. I think maybe people are more prepared nowadays
