Java001. Cycling is not for sissies that i agree with. Just as amatter of interest. How long have you been riding, and how much competitive track racing have you actually done. Also how many times have you fallen and broken bones or been caried off on a stretcher. Any one who rides at a very competitive level has to be tough otherwise they would not be racing. So when you have broken more than a collar bone or seen a friend crash next to you or in front of you and carried off with a blanket covering him completely after been pronounced dead, and you still have the balls to get back on your bike and carry on racing, then comment on who needs to toughen up. Other wise please keep your sinical comments to your self. Further more this is about doing the right thing when it comes to diciplining a young rider before a fatal accident occurs.

Now those of you out there that may have doubts about GUILTY or NOT GUILTY. Why in hell would a cyclist resign from his club halfway through the year if he was not guilty. Now tell the rest of us why he shouldnt be banned for longer than two months or even possibly life.

Well done CSA once again you have showed how weak you are in diciplining someone who is clearly out to try and win by even the fowlest of means and possibly kill a fellow cyclist in his quest to do so. Cycling is a dangerous sport and track is even more so. Yes track is part of the dicipline that we as cylists choose to do even with its dangers. But when you have a little hot head who seems determined to cause havoc at every chance he gets it makes one wonder how far he will go or be allowed to go before a fatality happens. Believe me it is no fun seeing a fellow cyclist lying on the track motionless only to be pronounced dead by the medical staff. I knew three cyclists who were experienced, and well accomplished at this dicipline that were killed on the track, in three different accidents and these accidents were just that, at three different tracks in SA, and not some idiot trying to cause havoc or win by fowl play. I have to agree, maybe the only way to teach him is to do what one of the other hubbers have suggested and that is, for the clubs not to accept him into their club, and that the clubs start a communication chain to prevent this kind of rider ever getting a linsence, until he proves that he is competent and responsible enough to have changed his attitude. CSA get off your butts and start getting pro active about dicipline before someone looses either a SON or a FATHER and GOD forbid its not someone in your family.

Hi Cerv. Yes Ontdekkers outside Kennis Caravans i believe. According to eye witnesses the truck went straight over him and he was travelling West, sun behind the truck and no heavy traffic. It was 6.35 am. Sorry, Driver didnt see him! Bruce Reynekers son also hit by a truck from behind in the yellow lane at 10 am!! One Wonders!!!!!!! And as someone said, be vigilant and carry some form of I D. Be safe out there. Our condolences to the Amos family may God give you strength during this every trying time.

I received a call yesterday asking if i knew who the cyclist was who was killed on Monday morning on Ontdekkers. That makes two in four days. In different Cities. But it is NOT GOOD NEWS. May they Rest in Peace

This is just not good enough by the organisers, CSA and its entire committee. In the years of the Rapport Tour there was not as many cars on the road and our population has grown. But this is no excuse for the bad showing of what promised to be SA 's cycling show case. Surely the Orgainsers and CSA would have sat around the table in planning this tour. In doing so suely it was then up to the President of CSA to ensure that the National Roads Commissioner got involved along side the organisers to meet with the Minister of Roads and Transport and also all the relevant Metro council heads and traffic heads that were going to be involved to ensure that all the T's were crossed and all the i's dotted so that this kind of F up did not occure.And then he should have made sure that a full report on the position of the councils was handed to him so that if there were any hick ups they could try and resolve them! As i mentioned Rapport Tour although it was a number of years ago was longer and passed through some of our major Cities on our major roads (albeit less traffic) without a hitch only because the right procedures were followed. Its time as i have said before that CSA become accountable for these reoccuring unacceptable disasters that seem to be happening more and more. Either they step up to the plate and do their job or resign. There are ex cyclists out there who, if approached and especially after this F up may well be willing to take on the responsibility for the good of the sport and not the pomp and glory that certain members seem to have attached to their positions. Maybe its time!!!!!!!!!

The whole debarcle stinks. Its time Mr Till had the balls to stand up and say YES C S A including himself did F@#* up and either do something about putting S A cycling back on track or step aside and let somebody else do the job!!!!! God help the Tour of S A. Cars in intersections, Taxis jumping robots, ignoring officials.............

I did not go and ride but what i have heard is just not acceptable by any means. C S A needs to be accountable and step up to the plate. We pay our license and entry fees and because we are the older generation are laughed off. When it comes to the S A National events we should be accommodated as well as any of the other competitive groups. If they cannot handle the amount of entries then i suggest that they move the Ladies and 50 + and up to another date. Maybe the Masters event that takes place in Parys(just a suggestion), but it would make sence to not try and cram everything into one weekend and have the problem of tryig to close off roads in a city for almost an entire week. Yes if you held S A's a weekend apart it would mean some families would need to travel twice or just put in for a weeks leave. Then C S A would complain about the logistics for them as far as officials are concerned. The same would apply or they would need to make provision for that. Afterall we pay all the necessary fees to be able to race!!!!!!

Well good luck to all you guys down there. Thank God that the controlling body a good couple of years back new how to get things done making sure that S A Champs was well organised and run on time and every one knew what was happening. Surely its not only up to the Province who is hosting the champs to make sure all is organised. My question! C S A wtf are you doing for and to S A Cycling??

One year, WTF everybody else gets two years or worse. Doping is doping!! If the bar is set at two years then it should stay at two years. If there is evidence ban him no half measures. Brings to mind Nolan Hoffman has he not only served one year of his ban and is going to be racing again in 2011...... UCI taking at leaf out of some other cycling bodies book????

A very sad day for S A Cycling our condolences to the Swart family. May the Lord give you strength during such a tragic time. May Carla rest in peace. Barry our thoughts are also with you. This must be a very trying time for you! May you find the strength to continue doing the fantastic job you are doing for the youngsters. To those out there slagging off about who is to blame! We are all aware that the roads are unsafe no matter what mode of transport one is utilising. We are also to aware that there are far too many cyclists killed on our roads and that there is little one can do to protect us. In all walks of life we all make an error in judgment or a decision on the spur of the moment that will have consequences, some times fatal!! So lets stop blaming of the truck driver and as someone put it "You stupid cyclists". No one is perfect!!!!! We are human............

As a roadie that has been around a while and without reading all the other posts. I have to agree with you(yea as one of the posts i did read "Opening a can of worms again").But as i said i have to agree. Ride on any given day and notice how many of the roadies "pro, non pro" will return the gesture when you greet them. Unfortunately without mentioning names this was started by one or two individuals back in the 80s late 80s, who thought that they were a cut above everybody else even though you may have kicked their butt more than once, and has carried through to certain clubs and individuals in cycling. May i add i am not accusing all members of certain clubs, there are the few that have the common decentcy to return your gesture of greeting but they are in minority!! One of the ex greats in cycling of this country once said to me Common Courtesy costs you nothing no matter how great you may become in a sport, it takes a better and bigger man to be humble. You treat everyone out there as you would want them to treat you. My point is we are all riding a bicycle no matter what make or price tag is on it. Road or MTB we are all cyclists and we are no better than the next man for choosing one above the other. Show some common courtesy to your fellow cyclists road mtb after all, what does it cost to say HELLO by lifting your hand or are you just too good!!!!

Thats great news for you guys down there. I was there in December and the place was so dry it was scarey. Lets hope it hangs around a while P E and the rest ofthe eastern cape really need it.

Santa i think we are all too aware of the feeling towards roadies and in fact have been a roadie for many years. But right now we dont need to be slinging mud at one another. WE that is the entire cycling fraternity, roadies, mountain bikers and who ever else rides any form of bicycle need to start working to change to mind set of the non cyclists. Yes easier said than done. But as i stated in my first post, those who give a damn when you are out there and you see someone doing something stupid, say something. Try and help that person to see how they could be being a danger not only to themselves but to the rest of the cycling frat. Yes you are going to get the proverbial idiot who will tell you to f off but if others out there do the same and make those p i's aware of how their actions effect others who use the roads and that they could become just another stat or someone they know and care about could be the next victim. An old man said to me once, A Sqeeking wheel eventually will get oiled. I can only hope and pray that the examples i have set will keep my sons safe out there and that they dont become another stat because of some other p i's actions. WE the cyclists are the only ones that can change the mindset of non cyclists (motorists). It will take time and patience and effort lots of it. And i dont think there could be any better time than right now. For those that do give damn. Come on guys lets try and make a difference

GT i agree its time we all stopped pointing fingers. We the cyclists are to blame for the cradle situation and note i am NOT blamming ALL cyclists i think i have been riding long enough to know better. But there are those in the bigger clubs and the bigger clubs themselves that should be setting the example. Its quite simple, we the cyclist have been given a cycle lane to ride in from the outset of the cradle route (note the yellow markings). I for the love of me cannot see why it is so difficult for the guys to use it. We the cyclists are abusing a privelidge that we have been granted by the roads department of Mogale City and the residence. By the same standard it does not give anyone who resides in the cradle the right to take the law into his/her own hands. Tacks Cowardly to say the least. Never the less, I for one will continue to ask those who i see riding in the middle of the road to please make use of the yellow lane provided and to please ride no more than two abreast and where the need arises to ride single file. I beleive that those of us that really give a damn will help, and in this manner we may succeed to make the cradle a little bit more of a safer place not only for us the cyclists but for the residence and put an end to this volatile issue. Guys maybe its time for US to SET the EXAMPLE to those who also use the roads in what ever means of transport they may use. Yes i know its harder said than done as i can also get aggressive with others on the road that dont see for looking and think that they have the sole right to use the roads. Aggression only breeds aggression. For those out there with the attitude that THEY CANNOT MAKE ME RIDE IN THE YELLOW LANE. THEY DONT OWN THE ROAD!!!!! Wake Up>> Neither do you!!!!!!!! Maybe you should think twice maybe thrice about those who you just might leave behind should, God forbid you become yet another statistic or some other cyclist who just might happen be a good mate of yours, all because OF YOUR ATTITUDE!!!!!!!

Sounds like a good prospect. If i could add my 2cents worth for what it may be worth. Some one needs to pick out our top 10 to 20 u 23s and try getting them to training camps regularly so that they learn to ride as a cohesive unit when riding in a bunched situation. Also putting them on the track so they get used to close bunch racing would help tremendously. When the time for selection comes only the best 5 or 6 will be picked based on their performance and if monitored properly when each individual is about to reach his peak prior to worlds. Thus you send only your best at the time. Willie Engelbrecht, J P Van Zyl, Alan Van Heerden and Robbie Mac even Mark Benke who also had a stint in Europe just to name a few and a few of our other top cyclists from way back came out of a track back ground. As i said only my 2 cents.

This is a major shock. Mark will be sorely missed in the cycling community. Our condolences to the Stockton family. May the Lord be with you all and may he give you strength in this very trying time. May Marks light shine forever.

Glen, if you read these posts please dont stop riding. Terry loved being out there and the legend that he was and that you know so well would want you to carry on. My condolences to you and the rest of your family

Terry, I cannot believe that this has happened to someone who loved life as much as you. As Stephen has mentioned you were always joking and making others around you smile and laugh. I know the memory of your first meeting will live with him forever and i want to thank you for that my friend. I will miss your humour and our chats about the race that we had afterwards, and that Hey china wont join you tomorrow its a bit early for us but maybe see you on the road. Or we are just doing a short one, or, you oaks are mad thats too far!! I will miss you my friend and i will ride with the memory of you and your love for others in my heart forever. Rest In Peace Tebs. Your china.
