  1. The pass looks good..no issues at all in the early morning and should be little to no cars on the road then, you'll hear them coming on from far, so really safe. I've never seen any trouble makers on the pass apart from baboons. You might encounter a few baboons as daylight breaks and they scavenge the bins at the picnic spots. I once met a group of around 50, then you just stand still and let them do their thing. Or turn around and descend 100-200m if they get too close, then carry on with your ride when the passed. My wife and I even run the pass from time to time without issues.
  2. Exactly what I did yesterday.. turned around at the campsite, then it works out at 50km with 900m vertical gain. Some mates went to Ceres for coffee and back over the pass, then it works out on 110km with around 1200m climbing.
  3. Maybe a bit too much climbing today for Cav to sprint efficiently at the end.. tomorrow will probably suit him better and he might not even attempt a full-out sprint today. I hope he can take it tomorrow! The last 100meters of today is a 4% incline, so would actually suit Wout the best if he decides to sprint today, otherwise this is Philipsen's to loose.
  4. This remains my favourite roadbike loop! Even better now with Bains resurfaced. (Some of the locals disagree though..all their descending KOM's from 10 years ago disappearing now haha)
  5. Let someone like Hanco or HB at Bicycle Garage keep a lookout for you for well looked after second hand carbon wheels. They have a lot of Val de Vie clients that trade in bikes/parts on a regular basis that has hardly been raced. I got a secondhand South Industries XC wheelset with Tune King/Kong hubs (new +-R30k) from Hanco for R12k that's still going strong almost 3 years later.
  6. I started in Batch A last year on a MTB surrounded by a bunch of gravel bikes. I finished in just over 4 hours.. the only place where I overtook gravelbikes was down Ou Wapad (I think 4 or 5 of them that punctured down there).. they never caught up again. The rest of them finished well ahead of me, so I assume they didn't have any serious issues the rest of the way.. comfort is a different story
  7. As a fat person, I have never run in my life! Cycling works for me, less impact on my joints than running. Decided in January that I had to change things up a bit as I got bored with just cycling.. New year new me bla bla - Best way to do that is set a stupid goal that scares me a bit, so I entered for the Mossel Bay Ironman 70,3 that takes place in November. Quickly realized that I'll have to start running sooner rather than later, so I entered for Two Oceans Half Marathon as a short term goal. Went from a 9:00/km 10km run/walk to a sub 6:00/km on the same route in two and half months! Pretty chuffed with that. Hopefully the legs hold up this weekend on the 21km!
  8. Ja flip I just forked out R2k+ for a tandem entry (incl new Racetec chip). Only hit me afterwards how much the price went up. Anyways, looking forward to an easy Sunday tandem cruise around the peninsula without traffic.. just for that it's still worth it for me.
  9. He made it!!
  10. I see Hannes Basson also just pushed through Ceres, so he is still in with a slight chance of making cut-off.
  11. Looks like everyone in front of the Cut Dot will make it safely over the line. Louis Bredell will be touch & go!! He's got a nice section coming up now from the top of Mitchell's to the foot of Bains where he should be able to catch up or get close to the Cut Dot..
  12. The live broadcasting looks like a kumbaja besigheid...
  13. Both taking a nap now..

  15. I assume Martin took a rest somewhere during the night.. Franso caught him and they are now riding together at the front.
  16. Hanno(Johannes Smit) says weather on day was cooler this year. Apparently they have a nice tailwind at the moment. Other Wellington/Paarl local boitjies we are closely watching is Franso Steyn, Johan Fourie and Henk Gouws. Currently Franso is lying in second. He and the leader both still ahead of the Ramses record dot 🤯
  17. Lol, yes that one!
  18. This is very true.. three years ago I thought I was well prepared, fit, and in shape when I did the K2C.. This year felt underprepared at 95kg, Covid in May, and did not train consistently since then through the winter, still ended up 30mins quicker when I thought I'd have trouble just to match my 2019 time. I see I finished only 2minutes behind you (7 minutes race time since you started a batch behind me).. We probably rode together at certain points yesterday haha, you couldn't miss me - the fat guy in the black and pink kit flying on the downhills.. I have an idea - how about you prepare next year, and I go on a diet, then we get that Sub 4 train going!! We were so close yet so far this year..
  19. Gravity worked well.. half an hour faster than 2019😁👌
  20. Simola is mos downhill according to their website route profile haha
  21. This is by far my favorite downhill race - I'm 10kg heavier than in 2019, so technically gravity is on my side this year and I should be able to better my 2019 time!
  22. The app is called Epic Ride Weather
  23. Definitely looks better than last week, but still too early to be accurate. Ride forecast for September 25, 2022 at 07:30: Temperature: 10.8°C to 17.6°C, feels like 10.8°C to 17.6°C Wind: 4 to 12.8 km/h, with gusts up to 19.6 km/h Probability of precipitation: 0% Can't ask for better conditions than that!🤞
  24. Just realized the Monday after the race isn't a public holiday this year.. Ai man, makes this a bit of a schlep. We usually make a long weekend out of it at the beach, now it will just be a rush. I'll have a look at the long term weather forecast and then decide if it's even worth it to go.. not in the mood for another rain soaked race. Luck has not been on our side so far with this year's races.
  25. Plaashek met wiele..
