  1. https://zwiftinsider.com/hue-smart-lights/ I'm basically at a point where I'd try anything to make an IDT interval session more interesting/bearable!
  2. Still need to find space for the tandem... and then mount a few shelves for helmets, spare parts, charging points etc.
  3. I ditched my Dakine and two camelbaks for this USWE. Ordered straight from overseas supplier for R1600 two years ago and took less than two weeks to get here. I struggled with lower back pain with the Dakine and Camelbak. With the USWE the weight is distributed more towards your chest than shoulders I think. Very comfortable fit, and obviously the "No Dancing Monkey" system works. In this one I can fit a 1,5L bladder, all my tools, and a few energy bars. Worked well at Trailseeker this weekend and had more than enough fluids (Also had a single 750ml bottle with me) to skip every second waterpoint.
  4. Just got the start time email.. Batch C @ 06:45. Glad they made it early! Looks like +35°C again on Saturday..
  5. Check who's dishing out the hurt this morning at WP Champs.. @Jbr
  6. I can't comment on the Garmin and Lezyene, but I was very impressed with the Sigma Rox 11's capabilities and used it for years before passing on to my wife.. 5 years later she is still using it. It even has Strava Live Segments. That was a complete surprise for me at that price point. If you are looking at Garmin you might as well add Wahoo to your list to compare. I'm very happy with my Wahoo Roam. The Wahoo Elemnt Bolt might be worth looking at to compare with the Garmin. https://averagejoecyclist.com/wahoo-elemnt-bolt-vs-garmin-edge-130-plus/
  7. Looks like the wheels will be able to light up like the in-game Tron bike?🧐
  8. Just entered for the 70km.. bit confused about the actual start time. Trailseeker website says 07:00, but on my ticket it shows "starts 06:00". Anyone know for certain the start times? Maybe registration and board collection starts 06:00 and the race 07:00?
  9. Ahhh, interesting! No, I haven't done that before.. will look into it!
  10. Thanks! I had my GP check heart and lungs every second or third week during long covid symptoms. He checked for blood clots and took blood samples and didn't find anything off. I only started exercising again when he gave me the clear. Haven't been back to him again since.
  11. Nope I have not done an full-out hour session yet...before Covid I could hold 185bpm for an hour, and 183bpm for two hours. I'll report back once I've done an all-out effort again(Hopefully at the next Trailseeker at the end of the month)
  12. I've had the bugger twice last year..first time was end of Jan, just a few weeks off the bike, no biggy, but the second time was early August and suffered long covid symptoms thereafter. Migraine for 42 days straight, brain fog, and couldn't control my HR..walking up the stairs it would shoot to 170bpm. The first time I was able to go on a training ride again was two and half months later on 18 October. I've also not been able to get anywhere near my Max HR of 202 since then..my FTP went down from 324W to 245W during that 9-10 months period. But all is not lost, I've been on a 12 week structured workout program since 18 October and got my FTP back up to 304W. New max HR still at least 10 bpm below my old Max HR though. Here is an example of what my first workout back looked like vs this morning(12 weeks later): Really struggling to keep 280 watts for 2min intervals at 190 bpm VS Reasonably comfortable 320 watts for 5min intervals at 180 bpm. I'm honestly surprised how quickly it took to recover some fitness after struggling so long to get back on the bike! Motivation to keep pushing to get back to where I used to be..
  13. Forgot to add, after rides during the week I'll have a protein shake.. I also make sure I never feel hungry.. by chicken salad I mean a proper big bowl of salad with probably one and a half to two chicken breasts in.. definitely enough to stay fueled for training, but clean enough to drop weight at the same time.
  14. Riding 6 days a week(Tuesday to Sunday), around 10-12 hours in total(some weeks more depending on the program) of which 3 sessions are usually structured interval sessions on the indoor trainer. Monday Rest day where I'll be doing Pilates or Strength & Mobility training at the biokineticist. But more importantly losing weight in the kitchen. Cutting back on bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, cheese and sugar is the main thing I do. I tend to anyway skip breakfast, so won't have to change anything there. Just coffee with milk, without sugar. 10:00 tea with milk, no sugar. For lunch I'll have three fruits. Usually an apple, banana and pear. Sometimes I get hungry around 11:00 and have one of the fruits then, Last fruit around 14:00. Coffee with milk, no sugar. 15:00 tea with milk, no sugar. For dinner I usually make a chicken salad(only sauce I use is a little bit of sweet chili sauce, no mayo), everyday changing the recipe slightly to keep it interesting, and on two days in the week I'll have the chicken salad inside a wholewheat wrap(KFC twister style). Usual ingredients for the salad are tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, onions, beets, carrots, salt, pepper, lemon juice and avo. Sometime I make curry chicken for the salad instead of adding the sweet chili sauce. (Monday sweet chili chicken salad, Tuesday sweet chili chicken wrap, Wednesday curry chicken salad, Thursday curry chicken wrap, Friday sweet chili chicken salad...something like that). Usually have my dinner between 18:00 and 19:00. On Saturdays I'll eat bananas and biltong on my long rides, sometimes a Farbar or two. That keeps me going until late afternoon braai with a few beers(up to 4). Skip the braaibroodjie or only have halve of one.. also I try not to eat four chops. 200g steak or 2x chops and wors is enough as the meat with a salad or roasted veggies on the side. Skip the potato and pasta salads! Sundays same as Saturdays: Bananas and Biltong on the ride and then my wife usually cooks food for us for lunch/dinner. This is a bit of a "cheat meal" for the week. Like yesterday we had roasted chicken with rice and potatoes with sauce for lunch and the leftovers for dinner. Edit: Oh and obviously no secret eating and snacking. No pudding and sweets. No fizzy sugary drinks. Lots of water and sparkling water if I don't feel like just normal water.
  15. Is there no 2022 challenge up and running yet? I need to drop at least 7kg within the next two months, panic stations before the Cape Epic!! Last year I failed miserably to reach any goals.. ended 2020 on 82kg after dropping 43kg over the previous 3 years..new working conditions in 2021 and getting Covid twice through the year, with the last time being off the bike for three months got me back on 95kg.(K@k excuses, I know!) I've been cycling again for the last 12 weeks now and my power has almost recovered back to where it was at the start of last year, but I can feel the weight holding me back, need to sort it out ASAP!
  16. Not the easiest terrain so it's slow moving.. the one side of the dam is completely rideable and fun, but the other side it's either loose stones and rocks, or sand..but still fun in a challenging way! The last 4km stretch(last photo) is basically a hike-a-bike situation climbing over boulders and streams.
  17. Pedaling around Berg River Dam this morning..
  18. Don't be too hard on yourself @Vetseun, you did flippen amazing and for a great cause!

  23. That last few kilometres on the Doolhof road is the worst corrugated pieve of road in the Boland! Even when you are fresh you can't go very quick on it.. And after yesterday's rain and the historical stormwater drainage issues that road has it will be a corrugated mud bath to navigate today.. plus a very slight headwind here this morning
