  1. I, too, think check your pedals out, even if you feel it is the rear axle; that way you (easily) remove TWO possible creaking areas from your equation…. (I thought this before reading JBR and Bike Dewing’s posts , but then seeing them confirmed that i think you should exclude your pedals as a culprit) Cheers, Chris
  2. Look, you removed your post (well done), a few posts later you stated post REDACTED (again, well done), and then you start arguing the nuances implicit/implied in the redacted post, saying nobody (you) ‘wished death…’. Implicit in the possibility of burning a settlement to the ground, is obviously the possibility that people could burn/die, so do not tell others to ‘cool their heels’; you have removed/redacted your post, do not now argue what now cannot be re-read! Take a chill pill, realise that you may have written unwisely, and move on - it’s the right thing to do. Cheers Chris
  3. @Fauret sorry to hear of your misfortune. I rode around Simonstown and Scarborough, and followed an Italian/foreigner who had a can of ‘stream’ Pepperspray attached to his forearm, never seen it carried like that before, butmit made sense from a quick-draw perspective…
  4. Seems like a very good buy, indeed, esp. after checking the specs… Seems like a TRUE 50% off, so if the SIZE is correct, would be a good buy. The hanger will be available, so no concerns there… …and the shocks will work for your Daughter, I feel… Good luck, and yes, support your LBS wherever/whenever possible! Chris
  5. Moejahid Bardien, 082 859 6086. works from Private residence, very competent, clsoe to Cape Technicon/ Good Hope Centre area. Cheers Chris 072 211 7725
  6. Hi Chris; what range do you typically get from your 1st battery, and then your second battery ‘added’, on a steepish ride like this one, meaning what do you estimate your TOTAL theoretical range to be, given that you are fit, and are outputting a lot of your own leg power, etc? Cheers, Chris
  7. …tell us a little about the wheel size, please; 26” front and 29” rear, in a 26”er frame? Or how… thanks, Chris
  8. Update; spent an hour, at the site, but unable to find it, real pity… 1. tried to do the ‘noise’ trick, to further assist location, but failed… 2. there was a fair bit of satellite ‘drift’, meaning although i stood still, i was ‘drifting’ 2 or 3 meters each way, at least on the iPad showing me the location… Oh well, i really tried, thanks for the advice! Chris
  9. Thanks! search is O-N…!
  10. Good idea, I am a child of the ‘60’s, so this ‘new-fangled-tech’ is always a LITTLE challenging, but EXCELLENT idea, I will try this! 🙏
  11. Hi - on a RARE day for me to wear my air pods, i lost signal going through to Cape Point, and only LATER realized i had lost an air pod…was EXPECTING to lose signal after Seaforth area, then 15km later, wanted to hear rest of Podcast, but alas! Left airpod on the road…somewhere! (I was 15+km passed where i likely lost it, so ‘no turning back’, etc! If anyone picks/picked it up, Saturday morning, then case of beers or whatever… gotta hope! Chris
  12. …more writing gems i enjoyed from your writing, Carlo…! …I reckon he was delighted that part of my plan was to shower before settling onto his white hotel linen…. …I had to lean heavily into my Italian heritage to ensure that pasta got where it needed to go ….Endurance races are no place for sugar-free anything….! …Similarly, if you want to find a(nother) cyclist, go for a bos ***…! It was my SpagBol. Well, it wasn’t doing the knocking, but Pottie was.…! Brilliant! Looking forward to Part III ! Chris
  13. …I saw a few more smouldering matches on the road… …Time was starting to bend... …..flags fluttered with the crackle and pop much preferred in my cereal than my flag…. ….There is no energy bar like the sunrise…. You write beautifully, Carlo; i felt like i was along for the ride, AND you are something of a Wordsmith, attested by by the 4 brilliant comments in your part one above - keep writing, it makes for GREAT reading! Chris
  14. …loved this comment from the Organisers: “Top tip: Don't underestimate this route. This filly kicks hard. Some say there are still a few riders out there.” Kind of catches the attention/ is an attention grabber, will follow along this thread! Good luck, riders!
  15. Since the Amflow DJI appears LITERALLY to be a game-changer eBike, and that I plan to test-ride here in Sydney, does ANYONE know any rumours who may bring them in to SA? And when, more importantly…. It will not be DJI, but rather a bicycle distributor, and poor-old S.A. does not even APPEAR on the global Amflow/DJI webpage. 1st 2 shipments (both November 2024), sold out, but they have a demo bike for test riding… It has REALLY piqued my interest, ticks a lot of boxes, up to 120nm (105nM regular), lightweight at 19.2kg (the 600W battery - the 800W battery bike comes in at just over 20kg…. thanks Chris
  16. Sad news, indeed, and that is my own age… I enjoyed dealing with him, and currently ride one of his old (personal) bikes, so will treasure some good memories of him - sad, sad news, indeed. R.I.P., Willie.
  17. I, er….wear the pants - I think - so no need to convince the Wife… (she allowed me an eBike KIT…😆)
  18. In SLIGHT ‘defence’ of eBikes, i live in Hout Bay, so after knee surgery its Chappies, else Suikerbossie else C’Nek….since i am not a fan of putting a bike in a car IF AVOIDABLE, to find flatter roads… Honesty section: I largely ONLY ride my eBike now, but i keep it to 20-30% assist.. (my non-e 29er and steel road bike are getting D-U-S-T-Y !) 🫢 But you can turn down eBike assist, and still get a damn good 60-70km workout!
  19. …have had multiple knee surgeries, but no knee replacement…(yet!)… Doctor recommend cycling over running (non-load BEARING activity), and he actually suggested i use an eBike -as an interim measure -over a normal push bike…much less ‘loading’ of the knee after bucket-handle meniscus tear, patella scrape, etc.. Cannot now remember post-surgery, 1st ride number of weeks, but it REALLY assisted me, FWIW… Speedy recovery wishes! Chris
  20. I wrote to them, (regarding the Draft Walking & Cycling Strategy 2024) since the deadline is 14th Nov - 14th December; hopefully others will comment on the DRAFT, too. Cheers Chris
  21. I have a harbour permit (for legit harbour business), and it works well; electronic ingress & egress, just watch for railway lines that run at odd angles (so NOT 90-degrees) in one area of the harbour, and be aware of the container trucks… …these same 16-wheelers can be drafted, if careful/alert, does WONDERS for the H.R. …!
  22. …subscribe…
  23. Good luck to all riders; reading Buff’s recollections; my last DC was back in 2006, great memories, also no ‘enforced’ feeding stops, Will Ferris, Jeremy Valegra, Patrick Gaertner (RIP) John Tennant, Stavros Michalopus, Brett Wooldridge and others, amazing, amazing memories, especially afore-mentioned Jeremy Valegra making REALISTIC ‘whinnying’ horse noises whilst rearing his bike up on one wheel whilst awaiting the starting gun - crazy/fun times…!!! ALL: ride well, God-speed!
  24. I do rather think that BEAR and TEQUILA are n-o-t a good ‘mix’, unless wild ‘wrestling’ is your ‘thing’; D-O let us all know how the Bear & Tequila thing went….? ;)
  25. I see the ‘taper’ on that Lemon-Meringue pie, b-u-t I a-l-s-o see ‘Peaks’; have you peaked AND tapered….?
