  1. semi-hi-Jack; have you ridden the Karakoram Highway? Cheers Chris
  2. I believe NAVWORLD JHB could assist you, possiblyGarmin JHB, too… (not unusual to courier items to their service Center, etc) Cheers, Chris
  3. Am a bit nervous now; we cycled together -happily, I feel! - yet I was unaware you were ‘locked & loaded’…or is that ‘packin’ or carrying…? May now not ride Eroica 2024 with you, NOTHING personal, just ‘cause! 😘
  4. Is a ‘Gamic’ a Gimmick from Garmin? 😆
  5. Guilty as charged, your Honour; typing this on my iPad whilst playing around with your KINDLY-donated Garmin! 🙏 But-man; swapping batteries and THEN re-assigning their responsibilities? using a cellphone? 🤕 My HEAD hurty!
  6. right there, “swap the shifters assignments with your phone…”, I realised: 1. I am 61 years o-L-d…🧑‍🦽 2. I NOW realize I AM a Luddite 3. I will likely go to my grave on 2x, manual shifting! 😇 Chris
  7. I lived in the States (Baltimore, MD) for 3 years, and owned two 2-wheel different recumbents whilst there, Greenspeed were a very-well thought of manufacturer in recumbent and quad-bicycle circles, top notch company, good luck, I may have been interested IF it had 2 wheels…! Cheers Chris
  8. Could not disagree more… buy electric car without the charger…? buy cellphone without a charger…? then advertiser SHOULD write ; (Di2) charger not included… I feel she, the seller, should AT LEAST meet the buyer half way… Gear changing is TECHNICALLY not feasible when the battery is flat, so battery NEEDS to be charged, so bike NEEDS a charger, so I-F charger NOT included, onus is on SELLER to mention that in advert, since bicycle more-or-less unridable WITHOUT the charged battery… ‘do not sell me, say, a kettle without the charging cable, FFS….’ So, a piss-poor show, IMO. Rant off. Chris
  9. You should be fine on an IDT, as compared with the open road, where, if you had a problem, you might need a TOE-truck… …but I toe-tally get it, unless your IDT is some new type of Pro-toe-type, you should be fine…
  10. …we were SO enjoying your posts, until the bit about you being a ᵛᵉᵍᵃⁿ 😉 Seriously, enjoying seeing Mrs Balls Chutney AND Bunny Chow AND Windhoek ALL on a table in England; this is g-o-o-d….
  11. That explains it better, very nice set-up (spacious!) whilst you await funds for the next ‘rig’; in the meantime, luxurious set-up…
  12. Cannot advise you on how much you spend, but I CAN advise that, if you make a smart purchase (someone knowledgeable to help you), 2nd hand is an excellent choice, allowing you to buy BETTER product (since 2nd hand), or allowing you to SAVE some moolah over ‘new’, caveat with this is you need someone to GUIDE you, but do not rule out 2nd hand…
  13. @Lynskey tell me that tent did not come out of THOSE pannier bags? It looks huge?! I have toured with a ‘pup’ tent, both by bicycle and motorbike, but THAT tent….yoyoyo!
  14. Knowing only a bit about AMP, I went looking for more background info, and came across this brilliant Podcast that explained her history, up to current; she speaks very confidently indeed, and it makes for a great ‘listen’: I'm listening to ASHLEIGH MOOLMAN-PASIO | Breaking New Ground in Cycling https://podtail.com/podcast/castelli-podcast/ashleigh-moolman-pasio-breaking-new-ground-in-cycl/ Chris
  15. …maybe he is referencing that there was no prologue in ‘05/‘06’07? Dunno…
  16. Just watched a Trek video and a non-Trek brand video, both sharing the Fazua motor+battery combo; as an eBike rider, of many years, was not even AWARE of this, though I had heard of Fazua… Very clever system, I just learnt something cool! Good luck in your race Chris
  17. Any reason you decided not to fit a dropper, Buff? I see the internal routing port is there, and they are useful, as you would know - just curious? On a fun note; I cycled so many years WITHOUT a dropper (i.e. before they were invented), that when I finally fitted one, I stuck a REMINDER on my handlebars that I HAD one - battling down some gnarly trail only to realize - duh - I have a dropper!
  18. …and the right crank…🤕 yes, those grips are SO worn, along with the crank-arm we see, and I see a couple of deepish scratches just above/ahead of the forward shock - bolt, that I feel ’excellent condition’ may be an optimistic/inaccurate.description.
  19. No, had no idea?! If you can dig up any more info, would like to see it, thanks!
  20. Ok, Jewbacca; please PM me your E-mail address, and I will send you the (Tim’s) 10-page manual on CX course and permiter design. I was involved in the early days of SA Traithlon, (mid-packer at best!), and I know the EXCITEMENT it delivered (hell, we were cutting and re welding our seat posts to get further forward…), and then the early days of windsurfing, and the early days of MTB Stage racing; I do feel CX could bring a lot of EXCITEMENT….
  21. Just a heads-up, since I am busying BUYING Hardus’s Stages PM; ….he purchased it from someone, and has not fitted it to his OWN bike (I think that is correct, Hardus?), so I asked him to CHECK full functionality before he ships it to me;….so this infoMAY have a bearing on his question. Here’s hoping, and cheers! Chris
  22. I met with Kevin Vermaak before the 09th edition, (we were tying to assist with a VIP guest heli), and asked if they could ‘return to roots’ for TENTH Epic, but he said just not commercially feasible - -interesting facts back then was they used the SAME water source everyday for 8 days, from Cape Town by means of water-tanker, so (esp) International entrants did not get Delhi-belly from 8 different water-sources, meaning they could CONTROL the water quality… Would HAVE BEEN brilliant to have ONE ‘return to roots’ for the TWENTIETH edition, hell, I reckon I would have entered athat, seriously! But that Clover-leaf course design, with multiple nights in same camp, just works for them, financially and LOGISTICALLY. I live in hope! Chris (‘05, ‘06, ‘07)
  23. This! I think I bought into all the anti-Remco hype, and I have seen him being a spoilt brat a few times, BUT the Lantern Rouge interview gave me a completely different perspective on the chap, and I admire his achievement.
  24. thanks for the link - I reported the problems on the CoCT link, for what it is worth. Cheers, Chris
  25. thanks, was unaware, will write down details, and re-start my search....appreciated! ("...spider based power meter...") Chris
