  1. 26”ers would be hard to re-sell, since 29’ers are the new ‘standard’ (with exceptions), so despite myself owning a26er (and a 29”er) I think a 29er would BETTER suit you, AND offer better roll-over, etc. You are on the CUSP of XL, so do not rule out that size, without trying one, if in yr budget and suitable. Cheers, Chris

  3. Well, if you do drop into Hout Bay, a newish trail (2 years) starts FROM the C’Nek car park, halfway back, and makes it way to C’Nek Main Road, and NEARLY all the way down to Hout Bay traffic circle, on the RIGHT HAND SIDE of the road (direction HB), so, when linked with Upper Constantia trails, is fun riding off the road…. Cheers Chris
  4. Never done W2W, but plenty of multi-day, Sani2C-type events…. Final day is short (to allow people to return home), but some longish day 1’s and day 2’s… So I feel Mast x 3 MUCH easier…over in an hour or 2…. YMMV
  5. My Italics, but you get the idea… 😮😄
  6. Following the LINKY, but battling toFIND the Caster broadcast; despite searching, can you point me in right direction? Tx, Chris
  7. The OUTCOME, was similar, D&D, surely? the drug cheats, ala Jama Kratchilova (Testosterone, most likely) and Caster Semenya (Testosterone, though naturally-occurring), produced the near-identical results, near-Male results in a Female running event…. So, whist I agree the one was doping, and the other natural, the OUTCOME was to put them both in a DIFFERENT LEAGUE to the other 12-15 competitors….? Or do I have it wrong? Chris
  8. Thanks for taking the time t THOROUGHLY document this build - super-informative!
  9. Yes…and no. Been watching TdF for 35+ years, every year, and very few incidents like this occur, given 20-plus stages per race, over 35 years, and the NUMBER of motorbikes on the route at any given time…. Rare occurrence - organisers take note, sure; but let’s wind our necks in a little… Human error will happen, and you cannot remove every CHANCE of something along the route happening….. fact is, spectator behaviour impeded/slowed the bikes down, AND the bikes should have been more situationally aware…. barriers last 300 meters would have kept spectators back, bikes then unimpeded, incident LIKELY would not have happened.
  10. …maybe the AGENTS might have? if you need a PIC, I have the same one, can take a pic for you, to jog people’s memory… Chris
  11. Ok, some cool pics of LATEST work done to CNek MTB track posted on the CNek Facebook page: https://m.facebook.com/groups/1033625694237891/?ref=share Donation made; thanks for your ONGOING work…👍
  12. I believe some NEW work has been taking place on the HB-C’Nek trail - have had the dreaded flu, so not ridden THIS track in a while - anyone got any updates? Great work, will do donate TODAY again to this great initiative; C Nek not nice in the uphill direction with all the traffic; this was a much-needed path; thanks, Toby and Crew…
  13. @MORNE ….loving the cleanliness, no branding, no stickers, just bike & the Mist - Shweet!
  14. ..14 years, 2 months, I LOVE these delayed-response threads, still great, valid info, just 14 years later!
  15. …lube your chain the day BEFORE you ride…, not 5 min before you go out…

  17. Wife and myself had/have it, H1N1 (Swine Flu), lots and lots of coughing, less nasal (snot!) symptoms than a 'normal' flu,, taking a real break from exercise, this one is a bit of a bugger! Take it easy, Peeps. Chris
  18. Just having fun here: "bicycle will not fit in NEITHER yacht, nor camper... " CLEARLY, your friend needs a bigger yacht, and bigger camper. There! Problem solved! Middle-Class problems...😄 (tongue firmly in cheek!)
  19. Bearing Man? Branches nationally….
  20. Surprised - and annoyed - if/that Chilled Squirrel gave him the cold shoulder - most unusual, and not my 7year+ experience, disappointing, but following the thread… Cheers Chris
  21. Whew! 1. 13 y-e-a-r break (brake? ) in this here thread…! 2. Topic ‘switch’ from Beers - the BEVERAGE, to Beers - the RIDER! Clever… Fun, following this one!
  22. I think Chilled Squirell ALREADY import them - seen them on their shop floor, maybe give them a call…?
  23. @Jewbacca like you, I too feel I am on the thrifty side of thrifty… ….riding in 2004/2005 cycling tops…. ….not falling myself, for a fair bit of marketing ‘hype’…. but buying into what TRULY is a useful innovation/advancement…. WHY am I thrifty, I hear you say? …have been around long enough that there WAS ONLY 1x… ….and then TEN SPEED was invented/launched…., so 2x…. ...and then the TRIPLE CRANK was launched - so 3x, whoo hoo…! …and then COMPACT crank was launched…. .….and then 1x was ‘launched’, the new best thing…. Hmnn, where have I seen THAT before…! (written in jest, but with a dash of truth…)😉 Yours, in thriftiness! Chris
  24. As a Muizenberg resident, how do you feel about the HOUT BAY folk? Asking for a friend…. 😉 😆
  25. It seemed like there was a ‘ripple’ through the pack, where road narrowed, and this effect always amplified further towards the back; can guess there was a ‘compression’, and he touched wheels - I think a team mate also fell, might be that was the wheel he touched…?
