  1. Hi, got a 3-day b/day celebration in Stanford mid-June, with a group of riding mates. Whist I know some of the Hermanus Gravel/MTB trails, am oblivious of what STANFORD has to offer, and we don’t obviously want to drive/ride back to Hermanus (30km), before starting a trail… …looking for any pointers on trails in the STANFORD area, the easier/more accessible stuff, particularly as non-regular riding partners will likely join us for at least one of the rides… thanks Chris
  2. Done, thanks for your excellent initiative, will watch out for progress, and start riding that way more often! cheers Chris
  3. Ok, requested to join your FB page, please publish banking details for donations… cheers Chris
  4. I think the Lill’ Yappers were RIGHTLY confused by the ORIGINAL POST, (since edited) that said ‘BB’, when it was actually the spindle that broke; when it said ‘Titanium’, when it was Alu, and then brand was edited in afterwards, so the ‘Yappers’ had little info to go on - initially - to be fair! I was not a Yapper, but…..Woof!
  5. I have a 5-year old Bafang-equipped eBike (S-Works 26’er, not worth crap but sentimental due to a few Epics before adding the ‘E’…)… Have not yet needed any maintenance, but the little fan-equipped charger failed after 4 years (but only infrequent use) and the replacement was very expensive FOR WHAT IT WAS, esp. as it was non-proprietary stuff, figured it would have cost 40 -60% of what I paid on the ‘open’ market… So yes, I do rate your suggestion for ‘generic’ eBike servicing/repairs. cheers Chris
  6. Will check out your new FB page, and commit to R200, 1% of your estimated needs. Are there banking details on your FB page? now, you need 99 more equal donations…., then budget achieved. Let’s Go! 1. Zebra R200 2.
  7. I have been watching the opening of the Champagne / Prosecco Magnums daily… they ALL seem to arrive ‘pre-shaken’, and I am serious about this, since they simply pop the cork and the champagne POURS forth, without being shaken by the rider; IIRC Biniam was hit in the eye by the cork WHILST THE BOTTLE WAS STILL GROUNDED? I get that he fiddled with the cork, but seems all the bottles are vigorously pre-shaken, and he failed to lift the bottle and point it away…? Curious, is all Chris
  8. Surely SOMEONE on here has something positive to say?😆 I’ll start! I have a Bike shop, a motorbike (accessory) shop, yet there is SOME commonality… Appreciative customers telling you as much, for me personally, the sourcing new products is especially enjoyable, and starting off, a few Wholesalers assisted us with consignment stock, which was near-instantly paid back, to maintain excellent relationships. Less laying out for stock, Wholesalers were eager to find new markets. then we have had mostly awesome staff, some of whom have gone on to greater things after getting their start with us; we now pay 9 salaries every month, and make a modest profit annually. Hard work, but GOOD work. a word of warning; you need to be PASSIONATE, and need to SUSTAIN that passion for many years, to make a success. Customers ALWAYS seek out good service, at fair pricing. The Web/Internet/online is playing an ever-bigger role, so that needs to be integrated - and well integrated - into bricks & mortar. Finally, if you could turn Retail upside down/on its head, and do something REALLY different, I feel you would have a winner, but am unsure WHAT that would look like? my 5c! Good luck, whatever you decide.
  9. Yes, Oubergbpass On smooth 28C tyres, and mal-adjusted rim brakes was….. interesting!
  10. I too think BLACK cages will make it ‘pop’. very nice job, indeed, a joy many happy (s)miles! chris
  11. Me too, see you out there!
  12. I then bought the Biogen/Sweet Potato fuel; mixed it in HALF a 500ml water bottle of cold water, and drank it in the car on the way to a 60km bike ride; the taste was very acceptable, WELL priced at R199, and I think I will be using it that way - pre-ride drink - going forward, and report back here. cheers Chris
  13. Yes, not inexpensive, but I remember paying like $40 15 years ago - they were pricey even then, b-u-t solved a problem, elegantly, quickly and reversibly! Cheers Chris
  14. Not sure you need these, but living in the States, I used ‘Kneesavers’ to get a better Q-angle space on an unusual recumbent bike I was riding, but PLENTY of big guys/bigger hips/wider stance fitted Kneesavers fora more practical / comfortable pedalling action…. imay even have a set somewhere, unsure! https://www.google.co.za/search?q=kneesavers+Q-angle+pedal&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-za&client=safari Cheers Chris
  15. Thanks, actually going to give this a try… (this after me mentioning one banana, and a bottle of water!).
  16. I think you should remove the ‘pretty’ trees you have ‘added’ to the AFTER pic, since they are not there, and would likely need a WIDER island than exists to contain them, as it were, then maybe CONSIDER adding ‘no-see-um’ (Cleaview mesh) fence to further discourage any jay walking, since pedestrians hear cars, but NOT bicycles… great initiative - I think if you needed a small amount of money to help you roll the CONCEPT out, that HUBlanders may even do a small contribution. cheers Chris
  17. Thanks, Morne and Buff- very educational, and I enjoyed the thorough video! But, although a12-speed uses narrower spacing() for the cluster, I still am surprised to see a frame being WIDENED (as opposed to narrowed…) to fit a 7/8/9 cluster? thought it might be the other way around, clearly I got THAT wrong! Cheers, Chris
  18. Keen to learn about cold-stretching a frame,,,? anyone? thanks Chris
  19. My eating strategy is only PARTLY tongue-in-cheek, but you might see the humour in it….and there is a good deal of truth to it. usually I do not eat before a MORNING ride. Ride, not race. if I feel hungry, say after 50-odd Km or so, then I have a banana. I take a 500ml water-only bottle, and drink that. I OCCASIONALLY refill the bottle, the end.🙃
  20. I bought a replacement charger for my E-bike from Chilled Squirrel in Cape Town; my original charger broke - prematurely, I felt, but I had had it a while, so stumped up for a new one… am WELL aware that not all battery charges are the same, but it MIGHT be a good starting point. cheers chris
  21. There is quite a bit of ‘cross-compatibility’ of helmet pads; see what is close/similar, I think I have Giro pads in a Bell helmet, works just fine in a helmet STILL FIT FOR PURPOSE. Cheers Chris
  22. I think you need to make quite a ‘fuss’ taking an old, Hypermarket special ‘out’ with you, in a travel box, as part of your travel allowance, OBVIOUSLY for riding in the glorious UK sunshine during your holiday there… then you bring the ‘Hypermarket special’ BACK with you, in same bike box; but “golly gosh - I must have packed the wrong bike”, but Mum’s the word coming through customs… I would never do this; but would LOVE you to try it! cheers chris
  23. Now THAT is something I would like to see…. 😉
  24. I have an new/old one (unused/unopened), off of a GT mountain bike, I carried it as a back-up spare throughout a Cape Epic, back in the day - MIGHT NOT be what you need, but it's worth a shot - will attach a picture here of it...
  25. Well thanks for posting the link, as well as extracting ‘quick-view’ comments, gave me a good chuckle! cheers chris
