  1. To further add to what ChrisF says, the conversion kits that you bolt on to a bike to create an eBike, usually have NINE settings, (11% increments), so power can be laid down according to your needs… when I first built the bike 5 odd years back, it came with 3 settings, Low, Medium and High, but just 12 months later I got a call to bring in bike for a software upgrade, and the 9 levels it has now are MUCH ‘smoother’ than just 3… one of the reasons I rate the Giant (cycling mates Wife) rides with us, on one, is that the 5 levels give more options… cheers Chris
  2. My own ‘choice’ surprised me; my Epic Carbon 29er, with a spare set of Roval wheels, and Roubaix Pro 700 x 30 tyres, has become my ‘road’ bike, commuter bike and MTB (since I sold my Spez Tarmac Pro)…. yes, you would think it is just an MTB with option of road/gravel wheels, but two things WORK for me; lockout front and rear, for road, and then theBIG revelation for me was fitting SQLabs mid bar ‘ends’, which mimics riding on the hoods on a road bike, so much so that when I commute (30km in, 30km out) I figure I spend easily 80% of my ride on these mid-ends, a game-changer since they give me a road bike feel. cheers, nice thread you started! chris
  3. ..and FOUR years if you took Maths in High School…????
  4. This...
  5. I WANT this van, yet I do not NEED it - is that such a BAD thing?! ????????
  6. 2 VERY good days, so far, fantastic, bring it on…!
  7. Nice After and Before pictures.... in that order...!
  8. Promises, promises, but very little delivery…. maybe the pics are top secret?!
  9. Will do, might not beSuday (biggish evening!) , but Ann or Tues?
  10. Fellow HB’er coming up for 4 days, will see about catching up for a MTB (road) ride... chris
  11. No, not ONLY haberdashery - discussions regarding different types of shade grass suitability, the art of one-handed egg cracking, and Pimples: to squeeze or not to squeeze, all these topics will be allowed, encouraged, even... so PLENTY of off-topic material ahead...
  12. This REALLY ‘gets my Goat’!
  13. ...and a semi-Jack, but RELATED question: Seen from front-on, it appears as if many of the brake hoods, or rather levers, are not vertical, but are slightly off vertical, almost akin to Gravel bikes, though not nearly that angled... is this a known thing/newish trend? thanks for the enlightenment! chris
  14. I counted EIGHT, and not 6, thought EXACTLY the same thing; time to cut down on SOME of the non-critical bikes, maybe...?
  15. Chris F gives you great advice - I reckon you should at least pop in/phone Chilled Squirell; they have done a LOT of conversions, including my own bike, 5+ years ago... used to cost R20K for 500W motor/battery setup, I get GOOD range, up to 80km unloaded, but pushing/cranking it, YMMV.... As Chris F says, this gives you a 1x setup; I would avoid hub/wheel drives whee possible.... they remove front derailleur; I converted an S~Works 26”er, which used to come ready- fitted with THREE water-bottle mounts, the batter only used one of those mounting points, leaving 2 full size (750ml) mounts available, though you need to be a Yogi to reach the under-down tube one ‘in full flight...’ in my case, I would have got practically little money for a (rather special) 26”er, so I extended its life into a commuter, heaps of fun, for little money... cheers chris g
  16. Nice of you to assist here, will follow this thread with interest, since lots of experience on here, and will check out the Facebook page. chris
  17. I’ll debate this with you, had mine for 7 years, works out at 7c per day, but as a TRUE potential life saving product (speaks when you cannot...) is really is worth the once-off R230 cost - its quality, I am surprised by the affordability of it. You are way too negative on this, IMO. Welcome to your opinion, but way to strident, and then you go and suffer from confirmation bias, too , finding the chakra-product, too. cheers Chris
  18. No! A Grave bike is one that you 'dig deep' when riding it...
  19. I reset my settings to 'take me to the latest post FIRST', but in addition, I would like to view LATEST post at TOP of page, can anyone help with THAT setting?! thanks!
  20. good, detailed feedback, thanks: I was aware that 'sharp bends' were no friend of cable actuated brakes, gears, whatever, but had NO idea about the 'snakeskin & gunpower' effect(s) - thanks for the education! Cheers Chris
  21. ..David; both you and to a similar extent Karakoram, praise the CHANGED POSITION of shifters as leading to greater smoothness/efficiencies... With a million and one road bikes, therefore drop bars, having breake and shifters on the curve on the bar, and cables USUALLY under bar tape, are you meaning that flat bar shifting is ‘crisper’ than drop-bar shifting? I can possibly understand your preference for flat bar over drop bar, but not shifting efficiencies? Thanks for clarification: happy to learn here! Chris
  22. just putting it out there: Chilled Squirrel (Cape Town, but they collect and delv=iver Nationally) is having a bit of a special on RETRO-FITTING non E-bikes to an e-Bike - I did mine 5+ years back with very good results indeed. 24. I think I rather like the font:The mixing of black and red - that’s diverse... The 3 letters ‘facing’ left, whilst other six face right - that’s ‘diverse’.... They appear to have mixed a raised-font with middle 3 letters, contrasting a flat font with other 6 letters, again, for me,diverse, too! I would have also dotted the SECOND ‘I’ underneath, rather than on top... I like! Chris
  25. Thanks; will try this this week ahead, and revert back; appreciate you writing with THREE alternatives, too! Chris
