  1. I got fed up with people dumping crap on a corner close to where I live. I contacted my councillor as I got his email addy on the DA website and I hounded him. I've now got a distribution list of the councillor, his PA and a good few council employees email addy's. I no longer sit on the phone listening to "your call is important to us" I mail that distribution list and get a reference number. I've mailed them a few times now of various issues in the area and so far so good. I'm waiting for someone to tell me to go kruip, but until that day arrives I'll ride this wave. What amazes me is how these teams work? I complained about the dumping and the blocked drain. A truck arrived to fetch what was dumped, I mailed to say thank you but there's still alot of debris left over. I got a reply saying they'll dispatch another team. I mailed again asking about the blocked drain and leaking water meter. The drain got unblocked but the meter is still leaking, I asked about it and another ticket was opened.... Ai tog, I suppose I don't work in council so not sure "how they roll"
  2. Same boat... However, I've decided to stay fit and active. Swim - bike - run cause I enjoy it. Will pick up the training program in a few months time but right now it's all about enjoying the activity.
  3. Lol at this.... I rode my mates BMX last week as he went through this exercise a few months back. We took our kids to lower Tokai and he rocked up with his BMX. I have a "man scooter" in chrome with black 5 spoke rims.... Cause I'm cool like that.....
  4. This looks amazing, well done.... I'm in the same boat as my 9 year old is also hammering her 20" I've started scouring the interweb for a 24" for her.
  5. Sounds like it was an oppurtunist who watched you go into the shop... Try your local Cash Crusaders type shops? Also keep a look out when passing your townships?
  6. Goodluck, enjoy getting back into it. You'll be surprised how fast you can bounce back... You won't be breaking any PB's just yet but you'll feel good about yourself very soon.
  7. Yeah, I've decided to humour a friend of mine. No bricking session for me on Sunday, I'll join him for a slow ass ride down the greenbelts to Bootleggers and back again. Then he'll message me 20 mins after we get home and say something like OMW that's just what I needed I should ride with you more often and you'll keep me motivated to get fit again.... or some k@k like that.
  8. Anyone finding it really difficult to motivate yourself to keep training?
  9. I'm going to race in Nov 2021. I'll keep on with the training up until then.
  10. Maybe? A mate of mine was trying to get a slot for March 2021 and was declined because of the limited numbers. Hopefully South Africans start washing their hands and we stop touching our faces and the numbers go down??
  11. Sorry okes... I feel I jinxed this event..... "However, limitations put in place by the South African Government on athlete numbers at sporting events continue to remain in place. We therefore regret to share that, due to these ongoing regulations on athlete numbers, the IRONMAN African Championship cannot take place on March 14, 2021 and has been rescheduled for November 21, 2021" #truestory
  12. According to the mail yes, but who knows... If things continue as it is we might get more than a Waggy Finger from Uncle C. His next "my fellow South Africans" speech might be telling us Port Elizabeth is closed until further notice.
  13. Welcome to the IRONMAN African Championship! We are so excited to welcome you to the IRONMAN African Championship. We know you can’t wait to take back your race and hear your name being called “YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!” Feel the fire within you, your passion and spirit as you take on this spectacular course..... etc They forget to mention, how much hurt your going to feel but it's all good....
  14. So who got an email? Did it shake things up, has reality set it or have you convinced yourself you still have time? lol
  15. It's like these folks are oblivious to anything outside their car.... I watch how some folks drive and they either don't care about what's going on around them or they don't know what's going on around them. What to do, what to do...
  16. With you on this.... I sometimes think I should have pursued a career in truck hauling or something that involves tie downs and straps and stuff.... Another activity comes to mind but that's a new thread altogether.
  17. Was all for this but if you taking the "lang pad" and "pulling" the Ventertjie then you don't have the option of the bikes... This was my dilemma and why I ended up going for the roof mounted option.
  18. Just moved over to the roof rack thingy recently. I've had towbars all my life (I only buy cars with towbars) and because of the trailer the bike rack stayed at home. Then the daughters wanted to take their bikes with when we went away. I had the bike rack on the trailer which worked out nicely. Not sure if I'll put all 4 bikes on the trailer because it's a fiberglass trailer. I used an old school Holdfast which uses the base plate but hooking the trailer with the bikes or getting the bikes on when the trailer is on already is a mission. I'm looking for another dark grey Holdfast Top Runner to match my otherone and then I'll be good to go. Currently run two bikes on the towbar and two on the roof.
  19. Check your banking or insurance policy bru... You probably have it already.
  20. Thanks, I just thought to myself that I should ask admin to remove my post cause this is supposed to be a positive thread on riding with kids and here I am moaning. :-( You're right about not meeting the Golf driver! This weekend I'll try and get the girls out on some trail and leave the negativity behind :-)
  21. A few weeks ago I decided to surprise my eldest and brought her bike with to come and fetch her. The idea was for my wife and I to fetch our girls and I'd cycle home with the eldest (she loves cycling, the 11km trip home was an adventure for her) So we did this a few times and she loved it. Lately I've been busy at work so we didn't do it for a while. So I pulled finger and wanted to make the most of me working from home so decided to surprise her again on Friday. (I play the bad dad alot by saying no to things and go and do it anyway but I see they know when I'm joking or not) So I stayed at the car and my wife went to the gates to fetch them (parking is a nightmare at the school) as she walked towards the car I saw her face (eyes she still had her mask on) light up and it was an immediate yes. 5 mins later we're on the bike and the trip home is a mix of bike lanes, suburban streets and an occasional pavement and I've made it clear to her she needs to look out of pedestrians and go slow. Everytime we do this 90% of people give us the thumbs up give her way shout well done dad etc.... But Friday past things could have gotten very ugly, I followed her on the pavement, then shot past her to check the road, look left right left again, scan the main rd for cars turning into the rd we're going to cross and I gave her the go ahead to cross, I watched her go across and some **** in a Golf decided to not indicate, cut the corner to get infront of her and I was helpless, my one foot clipped in I couldn't get to her in time and I shouted for her to brake. Luckily her reflexes kicked in and she stopped in time, the **** just brushed her wheel it was skew she didn't fall off or anything and she went over and stood on the pavement. Within seconds there was a crowd around us people came from across the street to check if she was ok. The **** in the golf just drove off, she kept of saying she was fine ... I was shaking I just held her for a few seconds then the rage kicked in. Two guys came walking up and told us that the **** had parked at the school further down the road so we took a ride to the school. We took a ride to the school and only when the security guard stopped me to ask who I'm fetching did it sink in, I wasn't thinking straight and decided then just to cycle home. I can't say what I would have done or how I would react so we just took it easy on the way home. Anyway I told her we won't do that anytime soon because some (and I mean some a handful of conceited, selfish, mindless ******* idiots who think they are more important than they actually are) spoil it for the rest. So yeah, to the **** in the Golf 5 and the 2 women who cut us off I hope the 5 or 10 seconds saved was worth it.
