  1. Those are some short shorts Stretch! Evan would be proud....
  2. Lekka! I'll cheer the chap running next to the tall guy then too! Out of curiosity, why are you calling this your last?
  3. I'll keep and eye out for a tall guy (aka Stretch) finishing at that time. Will probably still be around watching other club mates finish!
  4. Howzeeet running crew. What's shaking? (Booked myself off the hub with assignments that were looming.) Seems like there are plenty of us doing OMTOM in both versions. Would be interesting to get a view of who is doing which and what their goals are. I'm doing the half as I (fortunately) have not qualified for the ultra... This will be my first OMTOM half. Have 2 Gun Run halfs and the Cape Town Marathon completed. Tube - 21km - Seeded D - Goal: sub 1:50
  5. "You and me baby, we ain't nothing but mammals, so lets do it like they do on the Discovery Channel..." ???
  6. Wow they're good! Enjoyed this too!
  7. Howzeeet Stretch! I took the day off work for your birthday and went for a surf just for you bru! HAPPY BIRTHDAY dude!
  8. SNAP, my first TeaTea for years and also last night! Also had the same approach and bombed properly! I'm nowhere near my 5K best, although weirdly I am feeling stronger over the longer distances? Find I'm able to run 15kays holding a faster pace than before but can't come anywhere near my 5K PB of 22min. Once OMTOM half is done, I really want to get some speedwork in and make a full effort at working towards a sub20 5K. My current half PB is an actual 1:55* at GunRun last year. Hoping to get under 1:45 at OMTOM. What are your goals and lets see who gets them? Challenge??? *(For those on my Strava, 2 years ago Gun Run had a major GPS issue and somehow was determined that I ran into the middle of the bay, breaking all my records. I've kept them there as markers to work towards actually achieving!)
  9. Welcome back!
  10. That's a good thing! If you're getting bored it means you're putting in the training! Keep it up dude. Your strava shows good numbers. You're looking in great shape. Here's to finding more motivation from the preparation you have put in so far mate! The goal is on the horizon. Finish strong!
  11. That's a novel idea but not really an option. Most people don't read their start card information properly and devising a plan to suggest which numbers in the wind speeds will be very dynamic. Firstly wind does not blow in the same direction all the time. That alone will have a major impact on safety on the day. This really is the only barometer than can be followed and assessed on the day. e.g. If the wind is the same strength as it was on Sunday but blowing from the West, you can be guaranteed that you would hardly notice it in comparison in the city, but the whole return leg from Cape Point through to Bakoven would be mental. Some cyclists would not make the route without a multitude of lie downs! Have the wind from the North West and it's everything in reverse to the South East. A couple of degrees can have a profound effect on what is experienced. It's not all vanilla, just wind and wind speed...
  12. This is what the Organisers need to focus on! Get these ducks in a row, come up with a plan for the day with the necessary role players and the risk element is drastically reduced! Everyone acting very emotional about the event. Let's just put this out there. Imagine the worlds media are watching the streaming live footage as a group of 100 plus protesters charge across the road at the Sun Valley traffic light where the elite bunch are coming down Black Hill at pace on the diverted route. That's before the thousands of other riders that have already started on the course even get there! And they will all be pumped up and ready for confrontation!!!! Could you just imagine the conflict on the day????????? Would this likely end with someone losing their life?
  13. See we are thinking similar too! (Too many threads about this now!) https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/166893-ct-cycle-tour-suggestion-to-change-to-1st-weekend-of-april/?p=3086041
  14. Hahahaha! Howzeeeeet NOOB! Did someone find you or did you finally give up playing hide and seek....? (Welcome back!)
  15. In fact, yes I do.... Thanks Terry!!!! Back to the books for me....
  16. Source please? That's 10 on the Beaufort Scale!
  17. No thanks. You would have put a bunch of people I care about on the road today if your tone is anything to go by. You are prepared to take risks I wouldn't want an organiser to take for the sake of a ride around with an official time. Best you leave this to the people that have been doing it for 40 years and have the necessary experience. Enjoy your day too!
  18. Hey guys and girls! SUPER sad for everyone that put in all the months effort to be here for this event, wherever you're from. All those hours training, the sacrifices on family and other endeavours, potential travelling and accommodation statistics, ready to challenge yourself against both you and your other competitors lined up with you, suddenly not coming to fruition. It is almost the ultimate letdown, for each and every person who woke up this morning, put on their bibs, got all their gear together, got in the zone, ready for their "EVERYBODY SAY HHHOOOOOOPPLLLLAAA" moment and then be off! This outcome has never been considered, with a complete cancelling of the race as that has never happened before. I would like to say I'm sorry that you did not get the ending you had imagined when you started the journey to this day! I truly feel for you. If your disappointment has left you angry I would like to challenge you to what you think Tumbles would have said about this all, had he still been with us!
  19. Winds will be in the 30 - 40 km\h range from the SSE. You will struggle over the very top of Hospital Bend, headwind along the M3, so don't get isolated over Edinburgh Hill! The stretch into Simonstown will be brutal. You will likely get some gusty conditions coming towards Smitswinkel, so make sure you have room around as people drift around in the wind! Tailwind from the right turn on Smits pushing you uphill, all along that stretch. The left turn down towards Scarborough could see some heavy crosswinds. If you're crazy enough to ride deep sections cos those are the only wheels you brought, than pay attention here! More tail wind along to the turn at Soetwater. The stretch to the left turn at Sun Valley will be the next super hard section! Get in a group! Wind will help you till you've gone over little Chappies. Climbing Chappies proper, do not ride on the far left verge! Give yourself space so that the side wind gusts from the way the wind bends over the mountain, do not catch you out and you have to stop to prevent yourself from running out of road! Cresting Chappies, you will be having to ride hard on the first part of the downhill into the wind as it is funnelled along this stretch! Keep your head down, hold your line and ride through to the left bend. Going down Chappies each of the left turns will have severe side gusts, particularly where the gradient on the mountain becomes less steep! The second left turn after the toll pay station will probably be the worst! The most notable gift from the day awaits as the wind pushes you up Suikerbossie. Enjoy all the slog getting to there to receive the big hand of the wind on your back! Heading down the back past Llandudno on to Oudekraal, you'll be exposed to swirling conditions, so leave room to absorb the wind moving you around a little. The right bend where you turn approaching Oudekraal will have more wind there. Prepare for a buffeting as you go through that bend. The wind will be diagonal across your face along this stretch to the 12 Apostles Hotel. The very next right turn on a slight incline as you have come past the hotel will surprise you at the ferocity of the short intense head wind blast! Even after you have read this! Have some spare gears ready for this piece. You will loose half your speed here. Don't drop a chain scrambling to get off the big blade!!!! The wind is less noticeable from here through the stretch to the right coming to the end of Bakoven, where you'll get your next quick blast. Roll through Camps and Clifton, smelling the finish. You should be fine through Sea Point until you come towards the home straight when it's on your face again. You'll be so close to the finish that the cheers should carry you home! Enjoy the ride tomorrow all!
  20. Are you referring to the hardware chain stores in the US perhaps?
  21. Can you get an updated pic to confirm?
  22. I would be inclined to concur that the events could be as you suggest I think? That sounds good that she at least knows, as I was wondering whether she would be aware of what has happened? More so as she was your accomplice in the gnome adventures not so?
  23. Hahahahaha, were you worried? Thank goodness they don't make gnomes on surfboards! Or do they?
  24. Are you not confusing this thread for the one word thread perhaps? Can you post more than one question on a post?
