  1. Kritzie, I am so sorry about your loss.
  2. Aw nunu! Those little feet!
  3. :-O glad you are kind of ok. I hope you took all his details and have reported this to the cops
  4. Try DARG and TEARS. Sorry to hear about Smidgen :'(
  5. Throwtheballthrowtheballthrowtheball!!!!
  6. BlackBikes, being quite involved with animal rescue I would sooner say go for a younger rottie or rottie cross. If you can find a rottie cross lab you will have the most amazing dog for kids and other animals. Either way get a young dog or pup and go to training. Take your kids along to the training.
  7. Any info on the other riders? We passed the scene and there was a rider still lying on the ground who had already been intubated, another one who was on a stretcher and another sitting bleeding on the grass verge. A short distance further on the other side of the road another rider was also being immobilized where they had fallen. It was really horrid to see riders down like this. I really hope they are all healed up soon.
  8. RooiWillie, sincere apologies for that. When it happened for what felt like the hundredth time it was decided that that bike could make its own way through the route as it was obviously not making use of the designated "path clearers".
  9. All the Apocalypse Cows help with ice cream bikes on their second lap. They are all legendary ;-) Must admit there were some legendary ladies on the N14... Can't recall the brand whose "spot" it was, but 4 of the lithe young ladies all ran to the back of the ice cream bike he was pulling and ran pushing it for a little bit. Good on them!
  10. Especially when that guy did 2 laps ;-P AND pulled an ice cream bike on his second lap
  11. Well you didn't manage to be the last official finisher according to racetec... That honor has gone to Marc (one of our apocalypse cows) :-D
  12. Does anyone know if pigspotter at least tweeted to warn motorists of this bunch of law breaking hooligans? ;-)
  13. I agree about this. There were too many water tables where you didn't have the option to ride past because the entire road was blocked due to the volunteers standing with paper cups I the middle of the road and riders stopping to take it and drink it. I had an extremely long day escorting a friend who was not supposed to have ridden because was sick. Eventually near the end of the N14 she conceded that she was not going to manage to finish so after bundling her into a support vehicle I headed on. Managed about 7 hours :-O Next year she's going to do about 4:30 ;-) (don't know about me... I might do my third year of 7 hours)
  14. And increase race cost by about 200% to cover the cost of kyalami? No thanks.
  15. Ok, so the IQ bike will NOT be 4th bike in ;-) And I guess you're going to claim the ice lollies as the mascot and try win the best mascot prize? ;-) I know us Cows are all insane, but I think you guys are taking it to a higher level *lol*
  16. Not everyone has a gautrain station close by... In fact, for some of us we have to get to sandton in order to use the damned thing
  17. Unless it's Linden - they don't mind helping out a bit to the sides of their area, then they transfer the file and follow up to make sure that the "correct" guys are doing their jobs ;-) (at least that is my experience of these guys)
  18. :-( condolences to those left behind
  19. Hmmm, my take on this.... As someone who *can* fix bicycles, motorbikes, cars, electric fences to name a few... Even though I *can* should not mean I *have to* do these things. I have stripped and rebuilt a 1984-ish inline 4 sports bike. Took it from barely functioning to a good commuter. That doesn't mean I do all my bike services myself. I take them in to pocketbikes because he does a good job and I don't mind paying him to do it. The same goes for my bicycles - I can do it myself but for a long time, while I got the service I wanted, I paid to have it done. For various reasons I now mostly do it myself but if I have a problem I go to my lbs. BUT.... I am the exception to the norm. I do my own thing (in case any of you are in doubt). Most people simply do not have the interest nor feel the inclination AND THIS IS THEIR PEROGATIVE. It should not be necessary for them to do this. If a shop is going to charge for a service they must render said service. It is that simple. The shop charged a fee and said they checked the brakes and that the brakes are ok. The brake pads form part of the braking system and should have been checked. The OP paid for this service and should not have had to cross check anything. To those saying that people should all do it all themselves, seriously, do you do your own dental work? What about building - do you build your own houses? Do you grow your own food? Do you seriously never pay anyone to render services to you???
  20. I even lock my fork out on some stretches at northers, so get the one with lockout. Chances are it's a better fork overall and then as previously mentioned check the other components as well.
  21. Many moons ago I used to ride alone a fair amount in the early mornings. I carried a taser for protection. Got charged by a few unfenced dogs and all I did was hold the taser up and press the button. The mere trrrrr sound of it made the dogs back off.
