  1. They should name and shame the offender. :-< Hope the lady heals up soon and that the offender pays any med aid shortfall.
  2. And don't forget, for those in the Northgate area there is a 24 hour spinnathon starting at mid-day tomorrow (26 October) till mid-day Sunday (27 October) and there will be Cow goodies for sale there too (t-shirts, baseball caps, Keemo and Thandi's in mini-cow suits, etc). R50 gets you an hour on the bike. We also heard last night about how the awareness campaign funded by the 2011 efforts is now being rolled out on 3 continents by WHO (World Health Organisation) so the "small" donations made by you guys have a ripple effect on kids and families all over the world!
  3. Yep, joberg is cool. I got a screw in my tyre as I left the office on Tuesday. Tyre was flat just as I got next to the taxi rank in Sauer street. Only one "dodgy" character approached and was quickly chased away by a taxi driver. A dude in a small truck stopped and came running to assist. I have no clue how to fit my tool kit back under the passenger seat or spare wheel under the car as I never got them out in the first place because all I did was stand back and chill :-)
  4. The face! Only a ridgie can rip at your heart strings like this. Soooooo beautiful
  5. Cats can be just as bad. I have 4 and while the girls are typical kitties and stay inside when it rains, both the boys don't care (the one actually runs out to go play in the mud). This morning I had to change twice out of what had been clean ironed tops because my young boy had gone outside, dug in the mud to get a beetle out the mud and then carried said beetle in and grabbed me from behind to give me the present. After I changed and got rid of the beetle the little monster then pounced on me from the top of the bookshelf because I got rid of his "toy".
  6. It wasn't that bad! ;-) On a 650cc motorbike :-P
  7. Poor CharlieMoo. We've given up trying to convince her to switch to cleats but after today who knows! Please say you did at least chirp Johan about being in the bakkie instead of on his bike like a good Road Ranger? ;-)
  8. Hey TK, how are you doing on the fundraising?
  9. Do a search here on the hub and you will find lots of info. While some of the upper-level ranges have a different geometry, often the WSD are just differently-painted entry-level men's frames with down-specked components and shorter stem, with a softer (usually less comfy) saddle. I am 1.52m short and both my bikes are not WSD. All I have done is put narrower bars and a shorter stem on. This way I have decent bikes with decent components.
  10. And it is easier still to simply click and donate.... Come on hubbers! Support this brilliant cause!
  11. TK, make your link and actual link - http://www.givengain.com/activist/83804/ (Yes, that is yours, not mine ;-) )
  12. Beautiful, hope you share many happy (s)miles.
  13. The only part I didn't enjoy was the settlement section! I do admit it would've been nice to have had some river, but safety and logistics come first.
  14. Ever since I did the yellow saddle maintenance course I only use the same oil that goes into the engine of my Suzuki. As soon as I use up the chain spray both 'zooks will get the same. Cleaner and smoother and if it can handle the engine heat it will handle anything.
  15. Let's see... Some poor kitty on death row in a shelter gets taken to a lab. It gets pricked with needles and then some stranger holds it down and "strokes" it and then it gets pricked with more needles. Um, yeah, I would also get stressed out. Anyone who works with rescue shelters and spends more than 10 minutes in a shelter will know that the majority of the cats want affection once they know you. Deprive them of that and they start to suffer from kennel stress - hair and appetite loss, dry skin, etc. force attention of strangers onto them and they also get stressed - hair and appetite loss, disrupted digestion, aggression. This "study" is a farce.
  16. PrinceVlad, if you can afford it go get the bike set up at cyclefit. You will be a whole lot more comfortable and your pedaling will be a whole lot more efficient. All the advice given so far is good, but the most important of it all is to just have fun.
  17. Just do NOT get a clunky heavy bike. I ride a hard tail and am more than happy with it, because to go full susser on small/extra small results in a stupid difference in weight:comfort ratio (the additional weight for minimal greater comfort is truly not worth it). Also, if you do go for the heavier FS bike, make sure the shock and fork have lock out if she is doing most of the riding on road or flattish and smoothish roads.
  18. Scary. Condolences to family and friends
  19. And this applies to cycling too. Whether a training ride or a race. When you are on two wheels you are at the mercy of bigger vehicles. Never forget that, no matter what the law says about you having any rights.
  20. Neither Joffter nor I are saying the bikers were right. What we are saying is that the full story is needed to know who was responsible for what. And that the "innocent victim" may well not be so innocent. This does not justify beating a person up any more than riding like a twat justifies being run over. IE the "innocent victim" is at least partially guilty of an offense. The people who are just slating bikers and saying it is definitely all the bikers fault need to remember that there could have been aggravation to cause the initial twit in the video to brake in front of the SUV. If you look at how certain people have worded their comments it is not to agree that there are only certain twits, instead they have generalize it to all bikers. Further, when Jofter rightly pointed out a comparison to cyclists those same commentators get highly defensive. I have seen and experienced how cyclists are often no better than these bikers in races. If the shoe fits please feel free to let everyone know and see...
  21. Caerus, you sound like the type of driver I am referring to. I have had idiots like this behind me more than once. Best is when they don't even move to the right hand lane and pass when they can. No, I don't resort to the braking thing (unless I am in my car with my tow bar) on the bike, but I know that some people would. You have a nice life now. Pity my ethics mean I'll never leave you to fend for yourself against idiot drivers. In fact my ethics put me between them and you. Regularly. Chew on that next time you complete a cycling race safely.
  22. And just what if the SUV had been speeding up behind deliberately, then backing off, then repeating ad nauseum? The biker might just have decided to try give the driver a fright, to make him stop doing this, by braking, but mr-so-cool-in-the-range-rover was too freaking slow on his brakes and hit the biker? His hitting the biker is what started the whole thing. What the hell was he doing that close to the bike? Hopefully a range rover driver like this will do that to you next time you go out on 2 wheels (ie for a cycle ride)
  23. Do not forget that you don't need to sacrifice your doing the long one in order to ride with your kid/s... Just rent a Cow for R150 to ride with you little one while you do the long route!
  24. Bumpity bump!
  25. Tumbles is still a youngster... My Sasha is 12 and going strong - ridge cross lab.
