  1. Were you the ones on stage? Smooth! Any chance I can get a copy of the video? My partner's crash was caught on gopro going down umkomaas.
  2. Interesting article about Switzerland and gold. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-05-03/switzerland%E2%80%99s-role-gold-market
  3. All the best to the people already riding and starting tomorrow! Looking forward to my first one. Enjoying the fireplace at the moment.
  4. Bump
  5. I would probably go crazy if I get power numbers too in terms of analysing everything! Here is the chart from my previous post.
  6. Not FTP, but related to performance. I did a 1.7km & 6% climb x 3 on Saturday and below are the stats in terms of time and average hr (% of max). 1st: 5:39 & 151 (79%) 2nd: 5:09 & 162 (85%) 3rd: 4:45 & 168 (88%) Then I was wondering how my average hr would compare against the total time, or put differently, how many times did my heart beat. Slower would mean lower average hr, but also more total beats because it takes longer. 1st: 853 beats 2nd: 834 beats 3rd: 798 beats In this instance, going faster resulted in an average higher hr, but total beats actually went down because of the time reducing by more. This probably doesn't mean anything, but still interesting. For me at least.
  7. Thank you for the offer v12. Let's get this little Sani under the belt and then I'll come over. What beer do you drink?
  8. Does anybody have a spot or two available back from the finish to Jozi? Doing the race. Will obviously share costs. It's either that or cycle back which might take a bit longer.
  9. Thanks dale and v12. I have thought about getting a power meter, but I must admit it's just so expensive. And then which one, hub, crank, pedal. And can only use on one bike. And when you have different wheels you can't swap the hub. I just don't know.
  10. Interesting thread. Thank you. Quick question, riding a hill in a certain time, then riding it faster, all other things constant. Wouldn't it be better to see both power and hr? Power might be more, but hr also more which could mean you're just learning to suffer more and not really getting stronger?
  11. Haha or first to the bar! Are you doing the buffalo category?
  12. Do you want to buy or sell an entry and for which one of the three rides?
  13. Also trail?
  14. Look at the Durbanville Ride thread... road and mtb.
  15. I think we're actually on the same page. But I think what you are saying is that I hijacked this thread a little. Apologies. So let me get back to this thread... what a chop!
  16. The original post said "with another local professional". Didn't do research. Sorry. The tread is about cyclists doping. I posted about doping. My point was that everybody is going on about him as if he's the only one, but he's not. What's your point?
  17. Uhm he was with a current pro cyclist?
  18. You can call him stupid, but if you think he's the only doper then you're almost as stupid as him. He's stupid for being caught. In my opinion riders are probably using new drugs and/combinations which anti doping don't even know about or can't test. I actually don't know how to stop cheating, including doping, in cycling or any sport. Or life. I literally feel like like so be it. Whatever. Just give us a good show at least.
  19. Sorry my bad. You sure do get agro quickly. I still want to see someone driving down there at 120km/h. And you initiated contact by opening his door, but why? Oh I forgot, you get agro quickly. I'm not condoning his actions at all, just asking relevant questions.
  20. Seems the old adage comes to mind about three sides to every story. Skippy I can understand your frustation, but hyperbole is not going to make your story stronger. 100-120km/h and missed you by 1-2cm from infront? And you had time to shout and see his middle finger looking back?
  21. There is a 10% customs fee (don't confuse with import duties) and then 14% VAT. Therefore take advertised price x 1.1 x 1.4 + other like shipping and sometimes even an admin fee.
  22. Are you sure? Your max. HR might be wrong then, because to do that high for so long is basically impossible as far as I understand? Or I'm not pushing hard enough! My stage 1: 83%, 2: 83%, 3: 77% & 4: 87% The Anaerobic Zone - 80% to 90% Training in this zone will develop your lactic acid system. In this zone, your individual anaerobic threshold (AT) is found - sometimes referred to the point of deflection (POD). During these heart rates, the amount of fat being utilised as the main source of energy is greatly reduced and glycogen stored in the muscle is predominantly used. One of the by-products of burning this glycogen is lactic acid. There is a point at which the body can no longer remove the lactic acid from the working muscles quickly enough. This is your anaerobic threshold (AT). Through the correct training, it is possible to delay the AT by being able to increase your ability to deal with the lactic acid for a longer period of time or by pushing the AT higher. The Red Line Zone 90% to 100% Training in this zone will only be possible for short periods. It effectively trains your fast twitch muscle fibres and helps to develop speed. This zone is reserved for interval running and only the very fit are able to train effectively within this zone.
  23. I can honestly not remember seeing anyone or anything on that last stage except for bits of black and some stars! Legs were stuffed but my strong partner and I tried to push on. Average HR of 87% over an hour not too bad. Well done to everyone!
