  1. No, not true. They have schools for youngsters too. And road pros have joined their top schools without any track experience, nevermind Keiren. There's a lot of tactics involved and very entertaining.
  2. Better explanation from Velonews http://velonews.competitor.com/2014/08/news/lampre-pulls-horner-out-of-vuelta-for-conflict-with-mpcc_342072
  3. Sonething about bronchitis and had to take medicine which resulted in high or low reading and they withdrew him as precautionary even with TUE. Exactly the same as Froome except for the withdrawal.
  4. If you ask vague questions I guess you'll get vague answers. Give us more details. How old are you? How long have you been riding? What races, results? What are your goals / what do you want to achieve? Etc. Etc.
  5. You can do kieran racing in Japan. You basically go to a school which rides, eats and trains all day and then do races. Like horse racing. Aim for two years at least. And it's tough.
  6. In his letter, Noakes, a professor of exercise and sports science and head of the Sports Science Institute of SA, gave a scientific explanation why a low-fat diet had no proven role in the prevention of heart disease: "As I wrote in Challenging Beliefs, a 2010 meta-analysis of studies involving 347 747 subjects, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found 'no significant evidence for concluding that dietary saturated fat is associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease or cardiovascular disease'. "A 2011 report from the Cochrane Collaboration, an organisation that is independent of the pharmaceutical industry, found that 'there was no clear evidence for dietary fat changes on total mortality or cardiovascular mortality'. Thus the scientific evidence is clear: a low-fat diet has no proven role in the prevention of (coronary) heart disease. It is time that cardiologists began to teach this fact in our medical schools. http://m.news24.com/health24/Medical/Heart/Foods-diet-and-your-heart/Tim-Noakes-heart-disease-theory-has-failed-20130210
  7. I found an interesting article from National Geographic, "The evolution of diet". Long read, but worthwhile I think. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/foodfeatures/evolution-of-diet/?utm_source=NatGeocom&utm_medium=Email&utm_content=inside_20140821&utm_campaign=Content
  8. It's never been proven that high fats can lead to heart disease? As far as I know, that's one of the biggest misconceptions out there.

Your post is very funny. I'm actually not sure who you are moaning about, roadies, ex roadies, mtbers, ex mtbers or do you want to just lambast all cyclists?
  10. Look on their website for Jaco's contact details http://trackcyclingsa.co.za
  11. And try Track Cycling SA or something as run by Jaco. Thy do exactly what you want, help new guys. Even with bikes to help you decide if you like it.
  12. Any luck?
  13. Interesting. Wasn't there a recent test by Specialized that shows shaving your legs saves a minute in a 40km TT? All things being equal, I like riding my bike!
  14. Also don't quite get. If your radar says there's two cars behind you, what exactly are you supposed to do? I told one of my mates the other day, I would rather not want to know what's going on behind me.
  15. Was the spike correlated with going downhill with speed? Was your top tight fitting or flapping?
  16. Sad really if that's really the reason. Shows how one man's alleged doping can ruin it for others too.
  17. Di you wear lose clothing/jacket? Mine does it with speed and a lose top with the flapping triggering a higher reading. Edit: lose loose smoose...
  18. Sheesh dude you sound cross. Stereotyping probably won't help your case. Most riders on the Spruit are there for fun and don't know the "rules", nevermind the group you're referring to. Maybe you can organise training-and-friendly-rule rides for the less knowledgeable riders like me?
  19. Agreed! Wasn't that cold, but then the rain started. Nice road race opener for the second half of the year.
  20. You had a good race last year! And all the best for the Clover Tour!
  21. Haha all good! A lot of the studies he refers to were done by Dr. Asker Jeukendrup, himself a very well respected sports nutrition scientist and an Ironman triathlete. Worth a follow via email or twitter. For example, @Jeukendrup: Supplements are meant to supplement the diet... not replace the diet. Some athletes still get this wrong. The same as with research in buying a bicycle, you should also research supplements and firstly, if you even need it. Knowledge is power. And asking questions moves us forward.
  22. Edit: deleted my earlier post, because I'm comfortable in my position and no reason to take it further.
  23. Thank you. I thought about it and I also apologise for my harsh conduct and manner. I do believe the nutrional talk is a good thing. If I could I actually would've loved to attend. Maybe a positive, at least through our exchanges more people saw this thread and might go now!
  24. So if I post something I'm sarcastically called a "hub expert", but your opinion is law? I made a very relevant comment that I'm sure Dr Swart would agree with, especially considering he's in the sports science field. I'm for transparency and obviously you're not. Should I just keep quiet and let my principles slide? Well I've made my point and obviously you and others disagree, so that's it for me on this thread.
