  1. Dipslick, why are you shouting?
  2. How does the limit of 35,000 tie up to the 25,000 to 30,000 that usually finish? People not starting, did not finish, etc?
  3. Interesting debate Butch. Let's change the activity. Let's say you host a charity day for stray dogs and that you're going to get girls to wash cars in bikinis, should the profit you make go to the stray dog charity or to the soap lobby because there's not enough clean people in the country?
  4. The problem is, what can we do? We have to enter with a credit card, non?
  5. Omar, from what I read he did get involved with the youth and he did try to give back to the community. The problem is that CSA controls all levels of cycling in this country so you can't just circumvent them. You even need a CSA day license for funrides?! Not sure what your gripe is? His story is typical of what we all know and think of the CSA.
  6. Cool! Can't find fault with the organisation and marketing of these races; brilliant!

    Argus 2014

That's why I said and used my example of working yourself up to the league races and from there you should be able to get a licensed or A or B start at the Argus and then BOOM!

    Argus 2014

Agreed. If you start in January you'll only be able to do a sub 3 the following year, at a stretch, because you not only need the training, you also have to work up the alphabet soup and get into racing to get the legs ready. I basically started cycling in the third quarter of 2008, but just doing funrides. During the second half of 2009 I started taking it more seriously. I did the Western Cape Summer League in 2010, but I was absolutely smashed and dropped in every race. I did the 2010 Argus in 3h16 from VA after being dropped. Spring League in 2010 went much better and this lead to the 2011 year which starts with my graph I posted.

    Argus 2014

For your information, the graph shows my training leading up to the 2011 Argus in which I did a sub 3h. In 2012 I crashed after 5km, but continued and finished just outside 3h. I'll try to also get my 2013 training data. Week 1 is from 3 to 9 January 2011 and the Argus was during week 10. The period included 6 x Wednesday Killarney races, 3 x normal weekend races, 5 x League races and 2 x Tuesday Track leagues.
  10. Icycling can we perhaps post the races in another thread, because this was supposed to be about the PPA and discussions surrounding that?
  11. Where exactly are you based? I'm in Emmarentia.
  12. I think I understand the 140km route now. First the small loop then the bigger one.
  13. If you look at the 140km route, would we do the +- 50km loop first and then join the bigger loop, meaning the climb comes at +- 50km?
  14. A first for you! Look on the bright side, with age there aren't many experiences you can call a first anymore. I try to always check my tyres after a ride and it's amazing how many glass fragments I pick out.

    Argus 2014

Listen, I read Nostradamus and apparently he's predicting a fierce wind for the 2014 Argus!! Look, I used the word wind and the correct word Argus MMWwhhaaahaha mmwwhhaaaha!!
  16. This is a good example where you can confuse cause with effect. It could simply be that the most healthy and strong individuals actually make it to the pro circuit so the reason that they live longer might well be because of good genes to start with and not cycling at all?
  17. Vouching for the man is good enough for me, because I know you to a degree.
  18. Rob - I don't think all the Hubbers or PPA members on here know you, so perhaps you would like to make a speech? Merely mentioning your name here shouldn't get you votes!

Nice meeting you Spinnekop! Slowly but surely I'll get to your guys' level.
  20. Earlier I saw a Silver Springs race advertised, but can't find anything about it for 2013. Did this Alpina race replace it?
  21. Good to read J, but like I said before, it's not a driving problem, but an attitude and entitlement problem. It's in all spheres of our lives, whether cycling, working, playing, or whatever. We South Africans are very self-centered. I don't know how you change that!
  22. Have you given them (more than one hubber, because you mention they?) a bad rating?
  23. Just to make sure, are you saying it's a lot or very little? I guess if you compare it to the profit they make from the Argus it's small change.
  24. And if most of the ingeredients are synthetic and created in a lab, even though it's "good" ingredients? We've recently seen the first complete lab grown "hamburger"

Quite. At the EPR race we started at 8:10 and I started to get warm by 10h00 with my three layers, but starting at 6:25 I'll guess we'll be finished by 9:25! What kit do you cycle in?
