  1. You guys crack me up! Women don't even discuss the fine art of shaving or waxing!
  2. You obviously didn't show some skin...
  3. I'll be bringing in a full bike to SA in less than 2 weeks, I'll let you guys know what the deal is.
  4. Road bike, 52cm, so it should fit. I just hope when TSA inspects it, they are able to close it again without damaging anything. On that website there are a few reviews on the bike case, TSA always inspects these cases, and it's a hit or miss on if something gets damaged or they're able to close it again properly.
  5. Thanks, that sounds like a pretty good idea too! I'm getting one of these cases and from my understanding I need to remove the seat post for it to fit properly: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1023912_-1_1553000_20000_400174
  6. Maybe on the safe side I should just get new canisters in SA when I get there. They're so strict about luggage and stuff here that I don't want them searching through all my things just because they saw 2 suspicious looking cylinders on the x-ray. On a side note, just be careful on the roads in CT in a couple of weeks, I've been known to drive on the right side of the road when I first get there!
  7. Thanks, I'll try that.
  8. Hahaha... I can just imagine TSA when they ask if I have anything to declare!
  9. Hi Everyone, I'm going to be disassembling my bike to take it in a bike case, what is the best way to mark your seat post, etc to get it back to or close enough to correct setup? Also, how do CO2 cartridges fare on trans atlantic flights? Thanks!
  10. Kind of along the same lines, but does anyone know what the deal is with bringing a bike in to SA to ride it while on vacation, and then take it back out?
  11. That is a sweet looking bike! Good luck with the race!
  12. Here's my weapon of choice:
  13. Most of the advice here is good, definitely bike set up is key, and core strength and stretching is also very important! My Dad suffers from a bad back and has had multiple surgeries, one thing he noticed was that a very stiff bike frame aggravated his back, but a frame that was slightly more giving worked. That's worst case scenario though!
  14. Simple physics... The 26" can accelerate faster due to 2 factors: 1. Larger centripetal acceleration 2. Weighs less (less material) The 26" can also maneuver better because of these factors. However for the 29", even though it may take longer to accelerate, it's easier to maintain speed. It also travels over ruts and holes easier. So either is good, just depends on what you're using it for...
  15. Sarcasm... Of course!
  16. I would say it's way too good to be true. The Trinity's retail is $12.5K - from legit sources, and with it being a current year model I highly doubt it would be going for $3.5K
  17. Good luck! Let us know how it goes! I'll be attempting my first 70.3 in mid July
  18. Have to disagree with you on this one, I have done lab tests, and my Max HR for cycling is 196, while my Max HR for running is 211.
  19. Actually sugar affects your performance. Too much sugar enflames the muscles and reduces overall performance. Not saying sugar is completely bad for you, but need to keep in mind not to eat too much of it. My coach is a huge anti-sugar fanatic, and we constantly butt heads because I like my fruits. His recommended daily allowance is: Sugar in Grams 100-125lb = <50g 125-150lb = <70g 150-175lb = <90g 175-200lb = <110g Here's his anti sugar soap box along with some other info that people had posted: sugar Forgot to add that I was actually part of a "study" middle of last year were we cut out sugar almost completely for a month and did a exercise metabolic rate assessment (VO2Max, HR, etc), at the beginning and end, and everyone that participated saw huge gains in performance.
  20. Did you calculate how many calories you're consuming per day? If so, how much is it? The only reason I'm asking, is that with you burning 1,000+ Cals on a bike ride, you need to eat waaayyy more. For example, I'm burning about 2,100 - 2,500 cals a day, and eating 1,500 - 1,900 cals to maintain an average of about 600 cal deficit. The formula being that 3,500 calories = 1 pound.
  21. Have you only eaten 787 calories the whole day, or is that your deficit? Cause if you've only consumed 787, you're not eating anywhere close enough!
  22. I used to love pronutro! There's a company here that imports it, but it costs a small fortune to get it. All this talk about biltong and boerewors is making me super hungry and homesick!
  23. +1 I think the forum rules are more than adequate, and the occasional reminder from Admin or any of the moderators would be sufficient to keep posters in line. We all get our panty's in a knot sometimes, but for the most part the same people lurk on here, and you get to know which ones are trouble makers, which ones are laid back, which ones have profound insight about the most random topics, which ones are the class clowns, and more. So this brings a very diverse group of people to the Hub, all with a common interest of cycling. This diversity is most certainly going to rub some posters the wrong way, but at the end of the day you need to man up and realize that everyone is entitled to their opinion, if you don't like it, don't take it personally. If we start imposing rules about what can or what cannot be said, may I suggest throwing in spelling and grammar as well? See how ridiculous that sounds? We're all adults here, so just take the approach that if you can't say something to someone's face, then don't say it at all.
  24. I got it at Cape Town Cycle Hire. They have 3 different types, just went with the Giant OCR3, was R150/day and they also have bike racks for the car, which was awesome. When I was at the start, there were a lot of other people that had to rent bikes in my start group, and a few of them got really ripped off. It sounded like I had one of the better deals.
  25. I came across the Hub looking for info on renting a bike for the Argus last this year. Have since stuck around to see what's going on in SA regarding cycling. *I seem to have accidentally time travelled*
