Did sani in december from himeville hotel and back. Took 4 hours up and 2 hours down. Coming down from lesotho post to sa post only took 13 minutes on my All Mountain. Had to replace rear pads as it was wet the whole day. Awesome day out and safe to do alone. Met a Dutch couple at the top who was touring RSA and lesotho on bicycles. They were sh1tting bricks for the decent! See pic of their touring bikes.
My experience with Spectrum timing has always been pleasant. Had a problem at the cratercruise. Emailed Gertjie and he responded promptly and rectify the situation same day.
I've got 172.5mm on my 56cm road bike, 175mm on my 54cm tt bike, 175mm on my 17,5" mtb and 180mm on my 24" bmx race bike. I can honestly don't tell the difference between the different length cranks!
When I rode Argus as a school kid there was a guy Wimpie van Niekerk (I think) who did argus in one of these and think he held the fastest time record. Faster than the pros of the day.
A word of warning. Once you learn to ride on one wheel you will never want to ride on two wheels again. I learned on my bmx, them started my AM mtb, then my cyclocross, then my roadbike and now even my tt bike. Cant get the tandem up! LOL
Yes you are right. The injustice was proven that both that local guy and strides copied from the same place. By digging up this incident I gave the person looking for a nice stand the oportunity to look at that local stand that was copied at the same place as the strides stand. I cant remember what the price was but I thought he might be interrested to know that he can get a similar stand than the Strides one that you suggested maybe for a better price. On the pics it looked like better quality than the Strides too. Isnt this the whole idea behind a public forum for likeminded people? Someone post for info and everyone reply their 2 cents worth. Maybe if its a rhetorical question you should go back to that post and state this new rhetorical evidence there as I do recall you had nothing good to say about the poor oke who just tried to sell his stands. Last year some guy advertised a stand for a good price. (Use search function) Turns out that he copied the same design that STRIDES copied and there was a huge outcry from JB as he sells the Stride stand. Go read it and remember the popcorn.
Never mind the guy in the slops. There were 2 guys running barefoot. I passed the one kaalvoet klonkie and he said that he also runs comrades kaalvoet. I asked if he would sign my bum but he declined the offer!
I think people should not confuse an Audax event with a funride of any sort. If you do spinning during the week cause you are to scared or unskilled to ride on public roads and only actually get on your bike during an event cause you feel save in the company of many cyclists around you then you should not pay the small amount as entry fee for an Audax. You most likely also believe that there is safety in numbers on the road and think riding the crater loop with 150 club members is the ultimate! Problem is that there are no safety in numbers. In fact the fewer cyclists together the safer you are. That way you can stay on the side of the road and all vehicles can pass you even if there is oncoming traffic. Yes accidents can still happen but your odds improve greatly if you stay out of motor vehicle's way. This is another very sad day for all who love to ride our bikes. Lets learn from this and ride single file. PLEASE!!!
