  1. Its surprisingly a bit on the heavy side, my scale has it at around 8.8kg, a couple more mods and I could probable shed around 500gms but doubt I'll get it to under 8kg.
  2. Bought this off thehub, took the gearing off and converted it to a SS with a couple of other changes, did Van Gaalens on it and a couple of rides at Modders, rides like a dream, loving it.
  3. Classic, give P.A.K a PK Bells
  4. Edenglen Cycling Club cater for all riders from Novice to racing snakes, they have bunches that leave at different times on the weekends depending on rider skillset and they always wait for the slower riders, you'll definitely find a group that you're comfortable in, summer start time is 5:55am and winter 6:30am on weekends. During the week I think they have a smaller group that goes off and is a bit of a faster group. Best would be to contact the club and get details on the week day rides.
  5. I think it will be 4:30 but I'll confirm later, we just went at 5 this morning because we're getting old and nursing injuries etc...
  6. I'm an ex Pomona World Champ
  7. Chilled as in I was on my single speed MTB and didn't break out in too much of a sweat Welcome to join us, we meet outside Bushwillow at around 4:30ish. I actually think you're on the "Modders Night Ride" Whatsapp chat with Ian, if you are can post the ride details there too.
  8. Cool man, I think tomorrow we're doing intervals, 3 x 10 minute.
  9. Best thing would be to measure the BCD which is quite easy to do (Measure the distance between the centre of two adjacent chain ring bolt cut outs), you could also print this guide to determine your BCD.
  10. It will be 104 BCD, should work on both.
  11. I wont argue with that, I'm giving comments based on my own experience and that of others who have tested XX1 rings for months (without dropping a chain) but there is no guarantee that you wont drop a chain, the Clutch will help no doubt but I wouldn't rush out and buy a clutch RD specifically for a 1x10 conversion.
  12. I changed from a 32 to 34 front, have the 11/40 on the back and recon it should handle most big climbs quite comfortably. You'll need to get the Wolf ring specific to your crankset The cassette conversion isnt necessary but recommended Clutch RD is not necessary nor is the chain guide because of the tooth profile on the XX1 / Wolf Rings
  13. Did it on a single speed with a rigid fork, holy smokes it was tough, kept dropping the chain on the climbs and crashed on the descent after the climb past the sattelite station. I'm not gonna lie and say I enjoyed it, I hated pretty much 80% of it especially the last 10k's. Race for Victory tomorrow is gonna hurt.
  14. A lot of us are members of Edenglen Cycling Club but the rides we do are organised amongst ourselves outside of Edenglen Cycling Club. Most of the riders that go in this group race in licensed vets cat so while the pace isn't blistering its not slow. Send me your details and I'll let you know the ride details as they unfold.
  15. Interesting read.
  16. expect it to cost a Kidney, the 2014 prices on the Cannondale's are high.
  17. We have a group that leaves from Greenstone (Outside Bushwillow Park) most mornings Monday - rest Tues / Thu 4:10 - 4:30 am, fast ride +-60km, we usually ride through to Boksburg and hook up with the Cargo / TDF bunch Wed / Fri 4:45 - 5am easier recovery rides Sometimes Thursday becomes Peanut Bomb Thursday and Friday becomes Puza Fried Day. The times and rides are usually determined and confirmed the evening before on Whatsapp.
  18. 220 * 13.50 * 14% VAT + Shipping & Handling = still pretty damn expensive!
  19. I'm with dipslick on this one, if you want something and deem it to be a good deal then make the effort to contact the seller, phoning is always going to be the quickest and easiest, If you sent a dibbs or PM or email, chances are someone else beat you to it?
  20. I came across that 11/38 the other day, I cant understand that price, its just insane. Sure, R1900 is fairly expensive but I think the prices are volume driven, remember as well that you wont need to replace the adapter with every cassette change so its not too bad especially when compared to the R4500 price tag on an XX1 cassette.
  21. R1900 from EVO Bikes, check this post out, that was my rationalisation on the costing vs XX1.
  22. Yeah General Lee, posted pics on one of the other related posts. It works well and looks pretty wicked too
  23. I'm running 1x10, 34,11/40, perfect for most rides. Save yourself some cash and run XX1 or XO1 upfront and 10 speed on the back, works out a lot cheaper and you get almost the same gearing as full XX1 or XO1 for a good couple of grand cheaper, use the spare cash to by an extra chain ring or two in different sizes.
  24. I guess that's debatable, big difference on a steep climb between a 36 and a 40
  25. Look at it like this, the cost of the adapter is around R1900, SRAM 10 speed cassette around R800 = R2700, you'd spend very little time in the top 4 rings so would probably only need to replace it every 3rd / 4th time you replace the cassette, if you spread this cost across say 3 cassette changes you're looking at a cost of about R1400 per cassette change which is a lot cheaper than XX1 cassette. When I went 1x10, the cost to go 11 speed would have added at least R6K to my build cost (XX1 Cassette, RD, Shifter, Chain & Freebody), by opting for 1x10 rather I only lost the 10(11) on the bottom and 42(40) on the top so gearing is slightly off, small price to pay for a R6K saving.
