  1. Where abouts do you stay? there are a couple of groups riding in that area in the mornings, My mate and I meet up with a couple of riders on Van Riebeek (in Edenvale) in the mornings, anytime from 4am to 5am depending on how far we're going then generally ride through to East Rand Mall and then hook up with the TDF riders.
  2. Gert Steegmans - 134kph (on a conventional bike) Highest recorded speed ever..... Fred Rompelberg 268kph full article here, http://www.crank.co.za/the-stig-on-a-bicycle/362
  3. hehe, only clicked now that its the same post
  4. I'm selling a Thule Freeway 968 bike carrier for R800 that will work for you. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/78235-thule-bike-carrier/
  5. I snapped my rear derailleur this weekend, checked CWC but they didnt have stock, so tried Buycycle, phoned them to confirm stock availability, paid an extra R45 for next day delivery then gave them a call the following day to get the tracking number at which point Hennie informed me that the courier company had let him down and not collected but that he would make alternative arrangements to get it delivered to me which he did, I received the derailleur a couple of hours later and installed it last night. Their prices are really good and their service is brilliant. I'll definitely use them again. A couple of guys on the hub arent happy about their rogue marketing (spam) but you know what, their prices are good, service is great so who cares if you get a couple of emails that you didn't ask for? thats what email filters are for

  7. I used to ride with him at Southern Transvaal way back when and he was a really strong rider. Think he is fabulous as a presenter / commentator and is a great great guy, would love to catch up with him again. The 3.09 Argus thing is not quite accurate, we both did the Argus when we we're 14 years old, did 3:26, have a look at the times that year that some of the current pro's did (i.e. Nick White, Robbie Hunter), will give you an idea of the caliber rider Owen was as a junior, thats what should stand out nothing else IMO!
  8. awe crap, missed 3 pages of posts again *blush*
  9. HAHA, bravo! I ordered a DA7900 derailleur from them yesterday, paid extra to have it delivered next day, still dont have it though but the days not up I guess. Will post if I have any problems.
  10. It will work, you may have an issue though with the chain slipping in between the the two chain rings, I've got an FSA crank with Dura Ace and this sometimes happens to me when I shift down but I've sort of worked out how to prevent it from happening (ensure the chain has adequate stress when down shifting) I also cant see what difference the chain rings will make unless they've machined them slightly differently to compensate for the narrower chain?
  11. I stumbled across their website the other day while looking for SRAM Red "Yellow" they're taking pre orders for it, will be available September apparently. had a little loer around their website and pricing seems pretty competitive.
  12. What cost the price?
  13. you know, I kinda hear what you guys are saying but at the end of the day this is racing and a par for the course as far as I'm concerned. I had a pretty similar incident at the Carnival City ride, woke up in the ambulance en route to the hospital, asked a few guys on thehub the following week if they saw what happened and left it at that. These things happen, its not nice but like I said its racing.
  14. Just got back from Southbroom, did some riding there, headed on the old coastal road towards Port Shepston, think its the R102, nice route, road isnt too narrow and a couple of nice climbs, try leave early though, the drivers on the coast arent exactly biker friendly, had a near incident with a lady in an UNO who didnt seem to think I belonged on the road! Weather is great for riding, was averaging about 13-17 degree's in the morning.

  16. I think its about R2500 if I recall correctly.
  17. Yeah I know' date=' I was supposed to save their location with my GPS but forgot to, need to try find them on Google earth and then we'll get the site updated. Thanks for the comments on the website but my goal was to actually give Cycleart some extra mileage through the post [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley2.gif[/img]
  18. Hi Guys, I sent my bike to Cycle Art about 3 months ago, their workmanship is absolutely mind blowing and Clif and his Wife are really great people, its really nice to see people working with such passion and high standards. I've received countless good comments about my bike and am really happy with how it turned out, in fact I was so impressed with their work that we got involved in setting up a website for them to help promote their business and excellent craftsmanship, check out www.cycleart.co.za

  20. My advice... definitely second hand and also definitely on the hub (as long as you know what you?re looking for), there are some really good deals you just need to check the site frequently and be quick as the good deals are snatched up fast, also make sure you know your bike size beforehand so that you don?t end up asking a seller of a good deal tons of questions that will only end up resulting in someone else getting the bike because he knows what he's looking for and the seller wants to get rid of the bike. A good time is also beginning of the year, this is when a lot of sponsored riders get rid of their bikes that they essentially got for free so prices are good but you need to also be cautious because these machines although they're good deals have probably been ridden hard so you need to know what to look out for.
  21. could also download the free util "VSO Image Resizer", install it then right click on an image and change to required size.
  22. I've not cycled for 15 years, started training again 3 weeks ago, did Berg en Dale last weekend and doing Emperors this weekend, I'm in GL so I would imagine its the last group, cant imagine anyone starting behind me When I entered there was something like 1750 entrants for the 99km event so could also be the reason for the early start.
