  1. You dont need an old bb...just a shim that goes over the crank spindle...it then makes it 30mm across
  2. Its a weird crank and getting a BB is a pain. I ended up ordering one from Praxis in the uk a few years back I recently saw a praxis crank with a little shim that made the spindle 30mm throughout i.e. it fit only on the 28mm section...doing this and then getting a 30mm BB might be the best option
  3. Check out the Favero Assioma power meter pedals - these are a great option for road bikes. They are highly rated and if you get a used one for a good price you should be able to sell at a similar price later on the hub
  4. Also check out decathlon. They have some good bags etc and a very good price. They have a nice bag for an extra bottle that can also double up for food...
  5. Courier guy is also great You book the delivery on their website You need to box the item They collect and deliver They cost around 350 rands
  6. its a great event to do. A nice route that is not too difficult and not technical. No need for a GPS - there are a lot of riders and the route is well mapped.
  7. Great to hear about your new endeavour Paul, you are very passionate about cycling and wishing you all the best in this venture!
  8. This is his "License" < Sensitive document removed >
  9. This guy also contacted me on Sat. He seems to be looking at WANTED ads and responding to everyone...be on the lookout...
  10. Has anyone printed a Garmin Varia mount that fits onto Specialized saddles (with the two bolts)?
  11. I have used the Thule ones - the one in your link works the best - you strap the wheels down and the arms hold the top of the bike in place - its easy to use and you can put multiple bikes on. this would be my go to option especially if i were transporting more than one bike and over a longer distance If you are just taking your bike to a starting point, i find that it is WAY easier to drop my back seats and slide the bike in - especially if its a road bike as i dont need to take the front wheel off. I have a little fiat 500 and my road bike fits fine 😁
  12. i am assuming you want to stick to 11 speed? I think the size of the chainring depends on how fast you want to go and the largest cog on the cassette depends on how much steep stuff you intend climbing I think that a 42T up front on a gravel bike with a 11-42 at the back is probably best for most gravel riding. If you want a bit more top end i think a 44 chainring mated to the 11-42 would probably work but you would not be able to climb the really gnarly stuff
  13. You might find that you can go to a slightly longer stem if you use a narrower set of bars (if that fits you) and it you move your shifters closer to you. again there are limits to what can and cant be done but this may assist you if you cant get a stem...
  14. Sounds like you are playing with specialized saddles. They have a tool in most if their shops which measures your sit bones and tells you the equivalent bsaddle
  15. Where are you based? Their shop is in Rosebank next to the mall. You can drop it off there ... If its within the warranty period, then surely you dont need to pay in

Yes, they are a big, legit site and do deliver to SA... There are a few forums on this topic so maybe check those but i thing key things to remember are: 1. The duties for most bike parts are only Vat. Main exception is clothing which attracts a heavy duty 2. Use dhl/ups and not a service that ends up using our local post office. While it costs more, its faster and you can see where your items are
  17. Also check out Decathlon. They have one that attaches to the chainstay and i have them on my 26inch mtb - works really well https://www.decathlon.co.za/bike-kickstands/12228-3392-500-chainstay-stand.html#/demodelsize-235no_size/demodelundefined-8302792?queryID=2ca83e21d8e70be4bdee00856191b27a&objectID=1824001
  18. Isnt it as simple as checking your saddle angle when off the IDT and then replicating it when on the IDT? You may need to change the angle to compensate for any changes in height from the IDT
  19. Agreed on the second half...i found it much harder than last year... Also support the comments on the race organisation - well stocked feed points and logistics
  20. i think Rook cycles had leather wrapped saddles a couple of months back.
  21. I have bought a few bikes from places that i dont live in via Bikehub. If you want to be 💯 safe, then use bikehub pay...but you pay a little extra for this The best thing to gauge risk is to look at the profile of the potential buyer - have they been on the bikehub for long and do they have a good rating? Also talk to them and get some extra pics so that you can gauge the bikes condition...a good seller should send you pics and answer your questions and over communicate the condition of the bike. Once you are happy then find out where the nearest bike shop is to the seller. You can then call the bikeshop and ask them to box the bike and the seller drops off the bike for you (some sellers will do this boxing for you). Most bikeshops will do this with no issue. And lastly you can organise a courier - the courier guy is quite good. They pick up from the bikeshop and deliver to you You can expect about 1200 for boxing cost and shipping cost.
  22. Thanks, both were closed today - will try in the week!
  23. So i find that coffee makes this worse...and winter/cold days its impossible to cycle for a couple of hours without taking a pee BUT for races in the summer, i generally make sure i have breakfast and one coffee well before a race and i then take a pee just before starting in one of the lovely portaloos...i also make sure that i have enough hydration on my bike and dont drink too much before i start...i find that i am then able to not 'break the seal' for the ride (3-3.5 hours)
  24. Awesome. Also happy to call them if you can get their name or number?
  25. Greetings all I have a Bontrager light that got damaged by rain Anyone in the Gauteng region that can assist and try to repair the light? I am hoping its a simple fix (damaged cabling, new battery)...but if more complex, i will toss the light and buy a new one but wanted to try first Let me know if anyone can help or if you know of someone that can assist. Thanks in advance for your replies!
