  1. To be fair I wasn't overly impresssed with TWT 4 years ago...I think its all about not spending if possible, pacifying the customer as cheaply as possible and then moving on to the next complaint...Rinse and repeat.
  2. This is just my take on this as an 'unqualified' spanner boy...I've used that red rubber stuff before (on car and bike) and it just creates gunk when it mixes with the suspension oil (maybe there are better quality ones...mine is a cheap tub from Midas)...I cried and ponied up for the the SRAM butter (bought from Cape Multi, took a couple of days to get to my rural village) and the difference is literally night and day...I stripped my Recon right down about a month ago and spent an afternoon servicing it....I probably used a bit more than a tea spoon worth on reassembling....There is enough there to do several full services.... Its well worth it....
  3. You tried these guys? https://capemulti.co.za/product/park-tool-ppl-2-polylube-1000-lubricant-tub-copy/
  4. I also know a few Ford mechanics....(lol...I had a Mazda and we had an issue with Action Ford some years ago, wound up helping the mechanic reassemble the carb he had stripped right down)
  5. Dealing with TWT....I sent Momsen an email as well as a message on Faceslap...But heard nothing.... I also used to like Domsen???? Not anymore. Not worth taking the frame at the price it was offered...Only R1500 less than what you canbuy it for online... Then I still have to try to sell it etc.. Not too keen on TWT either....last time I had to get the manager involved but that guy is no longer there...Everything always has to be a fight...Over it now. My own fault for not insuring properly.... Anyway...frame was collected this morning for welding/pratley puttying......lol....
  6. Still be stronger than a Momsen.....lol.....
  7. Lol...You sure they dont want to weld it back together?!
  8. Money I just cant afford to waste unfortunately... To be honest I never want to touch another Momsen ever again....????
  9. Thanks.... At least these school fees are a bit cheaper than if I had kids and had to pay real school fees!
  10. Its actually my own fault...I did have the out and about bit on the last bike...But after claiming on the bike I cancelled it and never renewed it again. As is so often the case, you only notice when its too late....
  11. They did offer me one of the steel frames after someone mentioned it here and I asked about it an hour or so ago but i would have to buy another rear wheel (12x142) and apparently I would also have to upgrade my 10 speed Shimano to 12 speed.....And I would also have to find a headset to convert straight steerer to taper....And then lets face it.... I would always be waiting for that Momsen frame to break like the last one....lol.... Just more headaches and endless money being chucked around... But ja....poor response really... A mate is off to the UK on the 25th Aug so at least he can maybe look around there for me....Doesnt seem to be any frames available at all in SA right now....
  12. Ja, this is my whinge...I wanted to maybe sell the bike next year if I have some R's and buy something else... Especially seeing how its a straight steerer, 9mmQR frame....Would need to flog the whole bike really... Anyway...Spilt milk...No more supporting local though....lol... What is interesting is that AL129 was R7400 back in Sept 2017 when I bought it.... Its now around R14,300....granted there is a change in the drive train from a 3x9 to a 1x10 but still..... Thats just crazy for a low entry bike...
  13. Not much I can do now sadly, spilt milk and all that crap but as mentioned let this be a lesson to others.... On the plus side as soon as I can find a decent frame some lucky/unlucky labourer around here will be riding a Domsen frame.....????
  14. Lol...I only contacted them to see if there were any 29er frames knocking about in those large shops...
  15. My metallurigist mate agrees..My almost 4 years in a tool and die environment makes me agree.....Time will tell...... But Momsen/TWT isnt bothered though,.,,if they can fob me off with a repair for another 365 days then their warranty on the frame is over anyway... Two lessons to be taken here.. One...avoid Momsen...Its always a fight no matter what Two....check your insurance...That I didnt do........I think a lot of us just pay and dont realise until its claim time just how under insured we are...I did howver check on riot/looting cover while I had them on the phone....????
  16. I did speak to their welder...seems like he knows his stuff....Nothing I can really do now anyway....no money for a new bike so over the barrel, vaseline free, I can like to be.... Unfortunately Momsen made no offer of any steel frames....quite honestly though I think my time with this brand is done after speaking to a few people including bike shops. 4 Years ago when I first got the frame and the clear coat was coming off they didnt want to replace the frame...I had to dance and invoke the CPA to say I then wanted a full refund...then I got another frame... Seems its one of those when you have paid then bad luck things..... Lol...after talking to Outsurance it seems they can insure it after being repaired...
  17. Lol....cant claim off insurance as I dont have the out-about (OUTSURANCE) Kind of stupid really as how would you know if I damaged the bike riding around at home or on the trail? Anyway...now it seems if they repair the frame I wont be able to insure anyway as it already has damage/repaired damage to it...
  18. My concern is if I wanted to sell the bike, then I am selling a 'repaired' bike now.... A LBS did say they have no frames so to expect a repair job... It is what it is I suppose.
  19. This is from TWT....anyone had any work done by these guys? A LBS said they would try and repair and not offer the frame. As discussed, we unfortunately don’t have any other options to remedy this claim other than to repair the frame at this stage. We don’t have frames or bikes in stock that we could offer you at a discounted price, and we won’t be receiving any anytime soon. Cycledelic is used by us to repair the alloy frames and they also do the paintwork. They are highly skilled and have successfully repaired many frames for us and countless others over the years and they can be trusted to do a proper job on it.
  20. Well, Momsen/TWT want to weld the frame rather than replace it. TBH Im not particularly happy with that. Seems unless certain methods/procedures are followed the area will be weaker? So it looks like I will have to try and claim from my Insurers. Or just try and find another bike. So bear this in mind, if you want to buy a Momsen and you break your frame after 4 years they probably wont replace it.. This frame was a headache from day one....
  21. Lol...hoping it doesnt play out that way but it did take some effort when the bike was brand new to get the frame replaced......(clear coat was already peeling)...
  22. Ja, Im off to Cajees tomorrow.... ????
  23. Could very well be....You cant really see in the pic but where the crack is, thats where the alumiumium comes to an apex....The length of aluminium is sort of triangular in shape if that makes any sense?
  24. Well, lets see what the manufacturer has to say...If they um and aah on this then I will sand out that area and see if its the paint of aluminium...I suppose thats the only way to tell and to feel safe......Otherwise the quest for a new frame begins.....That should be loads of laughs with a straight steerer fork....lol...
  25. This frame was already a replacement frame back in 2017...When I bought it I noticed the clear coat was peeling off on the chainstay and seat stays so they warrantied the frame...Makes me pretty distrusting of the bike now though.
