  1. My metallurigist mate agrees..My almost 4 years in a tool and die environment makes me agree.....Time will tell...... But Momsen/TWT isnt bothered though,.,,if they can fob me off with a repair for another 365 days then their warranty on the frame is over anyway... Two lessons to be taken here.. One...avoid Momsen...Its always a fight no matter what Two....check your insurance...That I didnt do........I think a lot of us just pay and dont realise until its claim time just how under insured we are...I did howver check on riot/looting cover while I had them on the phone....????
  2. I did speak to their welder...seems like he knows his stuff....Nothing I can really do now anyway....no money for a new bike so over the barrel, vaseline free, I can like to be.... Unfortunately Momsen made no offer of any steel frames....quite honestly though I think my time with this brand is done after speaking to a few people including bike shops. 4 Years ago when I first got the frame and the clear coat was coming off they didnt want to replace the frame...I had to dance and invoke the CPA to say I then wanted a full refund...then I got another frame... Seems its one of those when you have paid then bad luck things..... Lol...after talking to Outsurance it seems they can insure it after being repaired...
  3. Lol....cant claim off insurance as I dont have the out-about (OUTSURANCE) Kind of stupid really as how would you know if I damaged the bike riding around at home or on the trail? Anyway...now it seems if they repair the frame I wont be able to insure anyway as it already has damage/repaired damage to it...
  4. My concern is if I wanted to sell the bike, then I am selling a 'repaired' bike now.... A LBS did say they have no frames so to expect a repair job... It is what it is I suppose.
  5. This is from TWT....anyone had any work done by these guys? A LBS said they would try and repair and not offer the frame. As discussed, we unfortunately don’t have any other options to remedy this claim other than to repair the frame at this stage. We don’t have frames or bikes in stock that we could offer you at a discounted price, and we won’t be receiving any anytime soon. Cycledelic is used by us to repair the alloy frames and they also do the paintwork. They are highly skilled and have successfully repaired many frames for us and countless others over the years and they can be trusted to do a proper job on it.
  6. Well, Momsen/TWT want to weld the frame rather than replace it. TBH Im not particularly happy with that. Seems unless certain methods/procedures are followed the area will be weaker? So it looks like I will have to try and claim from my Insurers. Or just try and find another bike. So bear this in mind, if you want to buy a Momsen and you break your frame after 4 years they probably wont replace it.. This frame was a headache from day one....
  7. Lol...hoping it doesnt play out that way but it did take some effort when the bike was brand new to get the frame replaced......(clear coat was already peeling)...
  8. Could very well be....You cant really see in the pic but where the crack is, thats where the alumiumium comes to an apex....The length of aluminium is sort of triangular in shape if that makes any sense?
  9. Well, lets see what the manufacturer has to say...If they um and aah on this then I will sand out that area and see if its the paint of aluminium...I suppose thats the only way to tell and to feel safe......Otherwise the quest for a new frame begins.....That should be loads of laughs with a straight steerer fork....lol...
  10. This frame was already a replacement frame back in 2017...When I bought it I noticed the clear coat was peeling off on the chainstay and seat stays so they warrantied the frame...Makes me pretty distrusting of the bike now though.
  11. Heard a new creaking sound on the bike...got home...had a look in the light with a torch...And the crack is on both sides.... I dont think this is just the paint as if you run your nail over it, it feels quite deep... Any other opinions....Bike is a 2018 AL129...4 years old in Sept this year.... Always something to take your money....
  12. My Epicon for my 26in bike is adjustable (although you do have to open it up to move a pin on a shaft) from 80-140mm I think it is... Had mine for almost 10 years odd..no Issues... There is a bike shop in Rustenburg (I cant remember the name now, at the 'Magalies Mall' or something) that sourced a straight steerer fork locally for my 29er...
  13. Lol...they get a bad rap but around the hills of the Magalies they fair pretty well....And at one stage were an affordable tubeless tyre....Fast rolling as well. Used them for 10 years+... Unfortunately there is very little clearance on my frame to run a 2.2 onwards so I am using these until I buy another bike oneday...(oneday soon I hope and I WILL check the chainstay clearance next time!!)
  14. Ja, I think I will just bin it...dont fancy a trip to A&E....! I've been buying second hand tyres for years and never had any issues...when a bicycle tyre costs as much as my bakkie tyre then unfortunately second hand is the way some of us have to go...
  15. So I bought a second hand Crossmark 29x2.1 a few months back..these are scarce so when I see one I grab it... Got the tyre....had a quick look...all seemed fine...left the tyre draped over an 27.5 wheel set I have hanging up so it could fall back into 'shape' ready for when I want to fit it...Anyway over the weekend I decided to pull the old tyre off and put the 'new second hand' one on... I tried the floor pump which normally works...especially on the second hand tyres as they already have been shaped... Didnt work....Not a problem...Haul the 4x4 compressor out...Got it seated...disconnected the compressor and started to pack it away... BANG (and boy, will I be wearing my hearing protection next time!, Neighbour came out to see if the war had started!) Tyre off the rim....OK...do it again... BANG Tyre off the rim....go and find a old inner tube... Insert inner tube...inflate...tyre seats..... 5 minutes later tyre is off the rim... Did it again with the same results... Im not new to tubeless...Rims are not tubeless ready but have given no issues over last 4 years.... Put the old tyre back on (same brand and size) and it sealed fine.. Rims were cleaned up so everything should seat correctly... I wound up nipping into town and buying a new cheap tyre (which seated straight away with no problems)...Im not sure if its worth battling with this tyre or should I just cut it in half and chuck it away and chalk it up to experience rather than have to possibly pay a dentist sometime in the future!? Its odd that comes off even with a tube... Any ideas? Bead looks OK....But I think this tyre may have been impacted quite hard and its casued some kind of damage...
  16. Dont be throwing commonm sense around here....????
  17. Totally agree, but as we know...there are many MTB/MX riders that appear to be somewhat illiterate...
  18. I think the problem here would just be proving who actually placed those spikes....And in SA it could very well be a criminal looking for an opportunity with the MTB/MX crowd...Landowner just has to say it wasnt him and who is to say otherwise?
  19. Lol...if you wondered what My BB is like...(cycling related...!)
  20. I think its for that manky Capetonian, Scott riding cyclist who apparently spits all over everyone....????
