  1. Heard a new creaking sound on the bike...got home...had a look in the light with a torch...And the crack is on both sides.... I dont think this is just the paint as if you run your nail over it, it feels quite deep... Any other opinions....Bike is a 2018 AL129...4 years old in Sept this year.... Always something to take your money....
  2. My Epicon for my 26in bike is adjustable (although you do have to open it up to move a pin on a shaft) from 80-140mm I think it is... Had mine for almost 10 years odd..no Issues... There is a bike shop in Rustenburg (I cant remember the name now, at the 'Magalies Mall' or something) that sourced a straight steerer fork locally for my 29er...
  3. Lol...they get a bad rap but around the hills of the Magalies they fair pretty well....And at one stage were an affordable tubeless tyre....Fast rolling as well. Used them for 10 years+... Unfortunately there is very little clearance on my frame to run a 2.2 onwards so I am using these until I buy another bike oneday...(oneday soon I hope and I WILL check the chainstay clearance next time!!)
  4. Ja, I think I will just bin it...dont fancy a trip to A&E....! I've been buying second hand tyres for years and never had any issues...when a bicycle tyre costs as much as my bakkie tyre then unfortunately second hand is the way some of us have to go...
  5. So I bought a second hand Crossmark 29x2.1 a few months back..these are scarce so when I see one I grab it... Got the tyre....had a quick look...all seemed fine...left the tyre draped over an 27.5 wheel set I have hanging up so it could fall back into 'shape' ready for when I want to fit it...Anyway over the weekend I decided to pull the old tyre off and put the 'new second hand' one on... I tried the floor pump which normally works...especially on the second hand tyres as they already have been shaped... Didnt work....Not a problem...Haul the 4x4 compressor out...Got it seated...disconnected the compressor and started to pack it away... BANG (and boy, will I be wearing my hearing protection next time!, Neighbour came out to see if the war had started!) Tyre off the rim....OK...do it again... BANG Tyre off the rim....go and find a old inner tube... Insert inner tube...inflate...tyre seats..... 5 minutes later tyre is off the rim... Did it again with the same results... Im not new to tubeless...Rims are not tubeless ready but have given no issues over last 4 years.... Put the old tyre back on (same brand and size) and it sealed fine.. Rims were cleaned up so everything should seat correctly... I wound up nipping into town and buying a new cheap tyre (which seated straight away with no problems)...Im not sure if its worth battling with this tyre or should I just cut it in half and chuck it away and chalk it up to experience rather than have to possibly pay a dentist sometime in the future!? Its odd that comes off even with a tube... Any ideas? Bead looks OK....But I think this tyre may have been impacted quite hard and its casued some kind of damage...
  6. Dont be throwing commonm sense around here....????
  7. Lol...talk about priorities...
  8. Totally agree, but as we know...there are many MTB/MX riders that appear to be somewhat illiterate...
  9. I think the problem here would just be proving who actually placed those spikes....And in SA it could very well be a criminal looking for an opportunity with the MTB/MX crowd...Landowner just has to say it wasnt him and who is to say otherwise?
  10. Lol...if you wondered what My BB is like...(cycling related...!)
  11. I think its for that manky Capetonian, Scott riding cyclist who apparently spits all over everyone....????
  12. Lol....... the oppression begins...????
  13. I think if its not fenced off you cant really enforce any kind of control as there are no visible boundaries? Then again fences and gates are also 'walking' off these days as well.... These tappets tend to spin it up crazy style around corners on the trail and it causes massive damage.. Then the rains come and before you can say WTF, its gully avenue everywhere... I know guys ride from Kdump to Randfontein to Magalies and back towards Kdump via the Cradle area again. Some have support groups that follow in the cars and then these guys braai and party wherever... And in true SA fashion they generally leave broken bottles, tins and plastic everywhere...
  14. After seeing a load of scramblers yesterday afternoon messing up the trail where I live I can understand the farmers point of view..These off roader muppets are now everywhere around here on weekends...They just annoy everyone and do FA else...... On the plus side it seems that the fatty quadders have been reduced in numbers since COVID.... Unfortunately a over used right hand and aggressive tyres just destroy the route...They dont care though...they think they are bad asses???? Ive also seen wire stretched across the path at chest level as well. For bikers or cyclists or pedestrians.... who knows.... Eyes open all the time these days....
  15. Crazy stuff... Police shot a driver accused of hitting at least nine cyclists during a road race event in Arizona and leading officers on a chase Saturday morning, according to authorities. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/officer-shoots-driver-accused-hitting-least-8-cyclists-arizona-road-n1271438
  16. Not been down this path since the start of black jack season sadly but I took a ride out there today as some of it has been cleared... It appears Magalies is not a place for those Maxed helmets......???? A nice warm ride before a weekend of cold again....
  17. Best to carry the passport though....impromptu border controls to keep the 'smarties' out can occur at any time on the West Rand....
  18. "Even out Randfontein side"... What are you saying here? Lol...
  19. Lol..I would have thought just inhaling it was the best value for money?
  20. Where does the comma go then?
  21. I just dont get (well, as you say its family etc) why you would have such large shops with good stock and have floor staff who know less about cycling than my grumpy feral cat does. Just imagine if they took an interest and jacked up customer service/experience and employed a couple of decent mechanics....... I suppose they do OK though as even though we all grumble and grouse they are still in operation...! Or is that indicative of the level of new comers out there that havent been burnt yet by Cajees....????
  22. Its a shame really....if they staffed the shops with people who had an interest in cycling and knew the difference between a spanner and a hammer then I think they would be great shops... They seem to have a lot of stock on bikes as well as consumables.
  23. Correct me if I am wrong but doesnt this venue have cars/bikes stolen pretty often? Im sure I saw something a while back (like a couple of weeks ago) about a couple of cars going missing there as well? Or was that somewhere else? Were you parked outside the venue?
