  1. has anyone ever tried these before. did you like them, how did they feel. I know its a big ask but does somebody have a set that i could possibly lend to try out,
  2. go the fork dirrection, it will have more of a difference than on a good working drive train to just a slightly better working drive train.
  3. if its heaset then 1 question, is it a sealed or ball bearing, if its a sealed bearing, take it out, clean OUTSIDE only with a cloth, run Q20(its the best but some say not) on the rubber seal then turn the bearings onside as much as you can to get the Q20 inside, a more complicated way is to remove the dust seals, clean with parafine, dry it properly and grease and close it up, normal ball bearing type, clean with parafine then dry it well including the cups on the bike then grease an re-assemble
  4. i went for the old style motox goggles at sabie pre-ride, worked perfectly,
  5. put both bottles into fridge night before, take to race in cooler bag, throw ice into your bottle that you will drink from second and if you want to try just put the gu's/gels into the back of your leg of your pants with the top sticking out to pull it out as there sometimes or most times is shade there, it will only be as hot as your leg is
  6. i have always wondered about these scales accuracies, you should try this one scale i know of, it takes about 10percent of the weight off haha, i like his scale, i think a really good quality fishing scale would be best
  7. 9.5kgs sounds heavy for what you have on what did you weigh it on. maybe its just me.
  8. man i had a tough ride, it was hectic racing from the beggining, i ended with a bang but sadly that came at about 7k's, stripped the bolts for my cleat right out of my shoe and then smacked my already sore face and chest into the bar and stem, it was fun though haha. oh and luckily i got to the water crossing at the beggining early since i had no traffic
  9. yoh, i ride about 9-12 hours a week, i service my shock about every 8-10 months, if you ask my dad he will tell you i ride it rough aswell
  10. SteveS all is correct, its definately cheaper by far even if you need a seatpost and/or brakes swap, at the most a swop could cost you about R300-R400(including seat post, brakes and new cables) a new bike that would be suitable for mountainbiking is gonna cost you around R1500 for a second hand cheapie and around R3500 for a new cheapie.
  11. awesom thanks bud, getting it from a guy here on the hub but it looks to have no headset, i will pm jldam now :)
  12. i am gonna buy a commencal supernormal and i was wondering what headset is the right one for it,(can't mess it up as im ordering from crc)
  13. that torque wrench looks awesom man, wish i had one
  14. picture this, i know the unofficial route and i have been giving feedback to the cycle hub to help out, today after hearing about the comments on this topic i decided to ride the route and find every possible overtaking spot possible, believe it or not there is plenty space to overtake and i rode atleast 3/4 of the route not on the racing line, as was said earlier the guys are still working on the track and they working on it nearly every single day and every day there is a great improvement, i promise you that the official completed race route will be perfect and there will be sufficient passing space, rome wasn't built in a day so nor will these trails be done in a day, it takes alot of man hours, i ride at rietvlei 3 or 4 times a week and i know every trail there is in there and i can guarantee that it is not technical (besides one climb which might still have some work done) it is tough but not tough enough to have you pull out after 3 laps.
  15. its sanded, will post pics soon
  16. 3/4 of the way with sanding the frame, the hard part is by the fiber glass
  17. about 15 minutes then a polish then repeat, but i done loads of light coats,
  18. , im respraying the frame because it is badly scratched and rusted and chipped. i polished it with autosol metal polish, its not to severe and it does take the orange peel look away. started removing paint from the frame today, hopefully it will be ready for paint by saturday
  19. plain old cans, which is what all the polishing was for, the cans just dont have that smooth finish,
  20. Tomorrow i will have the headset cups, BB and chain removed and then i will start by removing stickers and all paint from the frame and mask it all up and ready for painting on Thursday, by the way the part that i cant show with photos is the amount of work to make it a super super smooth finish, that took plenty polishing
  21. Red done clear coat done
  22. scratches, chips and dents fixed white undercoat done Little-Ben2009-09-01 14:35:11
  23. now that bigben has finished his fixie i can start my project. Got a Gemini track frame Fork
  24. music when riding is a must for me, well within reason, Any Nats event or Provincial event i put them away because at the one race last year i had my mp3 player taken away untill i had finished(my own fault since i had earphones in when they told us that) i have them in for all my training and most races if i know im just gonna hang in the back with dad, guys that want a top 50 need not have earphones because its generally the first 100 guys who are riding one hell of a pace, in the back you not going as fast so therefor if something happens that you never heard you atleast have alittle time to see whats happening but at the front it happens quite fast if the rule stated no elite or uci licenced rider is allowed an ipod it would make sence but then again i dont know the actual rule so i cant really say much more, if this doesn't make sense then please understand that my doof doof in my car has wrecked my brain
  25. that is one good looking bike, hope you get well soon and have your best rides on that machine
