  1. Calling out the locals.  How is the weather looking?  How hot is 26 degrees in Summerstrand at 14h00?  Is it humid?

Currently it looks like solid wheels will be allowed?   Will the wind assist on the way back or out?

If I read the route correctly a tail wind on the way out would be ideal as the town will protect us on the way back?

Any advice will be appreciated (and updates in the days to come)

  2. You're a glass half full kind of guy.

Personally I think that a rugby world cup would not be a big uniter in the greater scheme of things.. Maybe if we win it.. But the actual event... Not so much... Only really for the middle class... Rugby around the world is an upper class sport and it's yet to lose that stigma... Where the greater population are in south Africa would not give two hoots about this

SA Rugby proposed a system for ticket sales that made provision for low cost and free tickets for school children.  A lot of thinking and effort went into the bid that a lot of people don't know.  The growth of rugby in rural areas and rugby as ` whole was a big part of the bid

  3. Good thing we didn't get it. It would have just been a temporary distraction from the reality of the k@k that is going on in SA. Another 1995 rainbow nation bulldust marketing roadshow and then afterwards, back to the salt mines. Sort out our sh!te first, and then when we have a properly functioning democracy we can get some new toys to play with.

The thing is this could have given many people a lot of hope and something to look forward to.  A world cup also has a way to unite a country as it has done in the past.  SA could be in a much better space in a few years time.  Upcoming elections could change everything.  SA needs to deal with its issues now and everybody being negative doesn't help.

Any ways we didn't get it so time to move on

  4. Tell me this, and be honest:

If you were the organizer and you had a couple of zillion of your own money to invest in Rugby World Cup, and you wanted a good return on your investment, with the lowest risk of losing money, would you have chosen South Africa, Ireland or France?

I would have picked Ireland, then France, but not SA.

Why would you invest in a country with only one proper stadium? If your investment is measured in tickets sold then SA. Also it is a lot cheaper to visit SA than Europe so expect more visitors here.

  5. I agree that it probably wasn’t a transparent vote and that something feels off.

And I definitely did not cite crime as the primary reason, I said that South Africa is more dangerous than France.

Saying that SA in 2023 would be different than SA in 2017 is right, the problem is that we don’t know which way it will swing. If you look at the linear trend for the last few years and project that forward, it’s does not look good.

We also can’t expect the rest of the world to have our optimism for our country. France 2023 is far more likely to be closer to France 2017, it’s a safer/more predictable bet.

I don’t like it, but it’s what we should expected when we behave like we do.

Well the World Cup can always be moved should it become apparent in 2021 that SA is not able to have it here.  They have done it with the IPL and I know for a fact there is always contingency plans with regards to these tournaments.  I think it was arrogant for the French to point to our crime stats when they themselves are a terrorist hotspot.

The vote did not go against us because of our country - France simply bought it.  Look closely at the votes.  We actually got more votes from the larger unions (3 votes) but almost none from the smaller unions.

You have to ask yourself why would so many Unions go against the recommendation that all unions agreed upon 18 months ago?

    France - 24

    Scotland 3

    Italy 3

    Japan 2

    Georgia 1

    Romania 1

    Canada 1

    USA 1

    *England 2

    Asia 2

    South America 2

    Europe 2

    Africa 2

    North America 2

    South Africa - 15

    Wales 3

    New Zealand 3

    Australia 3

    Argentina 3

    Oceania 2

    *England 1

  6. France also has a higher rate of people choking to death on frog legs. This is factually true too, but really not relevant in the bigger picture.

Maybe they should have the RWC in Harare, no terrorism there either.

    Look at the bigger picture.

Yes.  What also gets me is that SA2023 could very well look completely different to SA2017.  Saying crime is the main issue means you have given up on SA's future all together.

From the voting it seems France definitely "bought" all of the smaller countries.  Japan and especially "Africa" stabbed us in the back (those 4 votes + one more would have made the difference)

We accommodated Japan in Superrugby and how many of our players and coaches are helping them build the sport and this is how they repay us.

As for the Africa vote, it is probably not surprising considering the chairperson for "African Rugby" is a French citizen.

I am also very disappointed with USA and Canada for siding with the French (one wonders what promises were made)

A transparent and independent process followed by a secret vote?  Nothing transparent about that.

  7. Will zwift work with playstation 4 and or xbox

Not at the moment.  But if they took the time to "port" it then it would be great.  The PS4 would also make for the perfect platform to ride on as the PS4 would easily manager the graphics and you can use the controller to steer and its already got bluetooth.

I see them integrating Pro Cycling Manager the game into bike trainers one day!

  8. To the guys using ZWIFT. Do you know if its possible to connect two trainers to one computer and ride at the same time. I cannot find anything like that in the info or the ZWIFT site

This can be done on CVT with the "Real partner" function

I very much doubt it.  The only way is possibly if you are able to run 2 zwift applications simultaneously but even if you do it this way how will both guys control their cyclist and communicate etc.....

  9. Some races (like @PEPlett) have taken a hard stance against dopers and refused to allow them to race, and stripped them of titles. Other races welcome previously sanctioned cheats back with open arms.

Its time for cyclists to take a stand and say: "We refuse to pay to enter a race that allows known cheats back into the fold".

To this end I'm compiling a list of "dirty" and "awesome" races.

I'd love the community help on this, so please let me know why a race is dirty or awesome

I am going to generalize and apologies if my comments is seen as off topic.  I have not read all of the comments.  A couple of thoughts..........

This is a great idea except for the fact that so many dopers are still racing among us that have not been caught (yet).  They don't really test for age groupers / middle to back markers so we will never really know but there are many - and even the lab have now closed.

How many of the riders at the Giro do you really believe to be clean?  They all judge doping and then boom another one gets caught and so the cycle repeat itself.  Professional cycling have proven it self over and over again that if you don't dope you cannot compete at the top half

I suspect that for every one doper who is now not racing an event there are still 5 uncaught riders out there.

Another question is that If a guy was banned for 2 years and he did his time why is he not allowed to race again if he is clean?  Don't we actually need these guys to preach the dangers of doping etc?

A while back Ironman they said they are very worried about the age groupers as studies shows there are a lot of doping happening (don't ask me how - maybe anonymous surveys).  They basically stated that wealthy businessmen especially like to dope as they don't have time to train properly but are competitive with other wealthy businessmen they know and due to funds has easy access to EPO - I cant provide the source as I read it early last year somewhere - and in the 70.3 Durban's lead up they confirmed testing to take place on age groupers (something that never happened)

Having said this I will also have a problem with races welcoming dopers into their races whilst still under their 2 year ban - or ex riders who failed to show remorse after being caught

Maybe the question then is if Lance, Floyd and Tyler entered the Argus next year, would you allow anyone of them to race?  (Lets assume Lance did the time he was banned)

  10. Yoh, if I may ask, who are you riding with because I only knoe of maybe 4 guys capable of doing that

As ek jou se moet ek jou doodmaak

EPO van der Merwe en Piston Koekemoer

  11.

    [Dons flame retardent suit]

Unless 'stronger' means your in contention for a podium, why not just ride it as a long social and enjoy the ride with your fellow, albeit slower riders?

I suspect our team is going to have a similar dilemma - 2 are def stronger and fitter. I'm likely one of the weaker ones, but it's also kinda my team. So I'll just be reigning them back and reminding everyone we're hear to enjoy the experience, since none of us is likely to be able to win this thing.

[ .... awaiting the flames for my heratic suggestions]

We'll I am one of the weaker riders. The other 2 guys could go close to winning the race in my opinion.

  12. How much does/did a 2 man entry cost compared to 4 man team?

We are a team of 4 but 2 riders are way stronger. I asked them if we could change it and they said:-

    1. No at this stage as the race is overly full (not sure what they mean as we are not brining extra riders with and will still use 1 support vehicle for the 4 riders)

    2. Maybe later if there is cancellations

    3. If they do decide to allow us we will have to pay another entry fee

I then asked what happens if 2 guys just ride away from the other two and they said you will be stopped and forced to wait at all 6 checkpoints.

Has anyone else had a similar problem in the past?

  13. and because they don't use bullying sales tactics but offer quiet, quality service, the place is always full of happy customers (and staff).

Thank goodness. Last time I walked into another LBS in Bfn they threatened to shoot my kneecaps if I didn't buy anything

Anyways, bullying sales tactics is something that got relooked the day the first online store opened.
