  1. ?? NO NO NO you need Stans tubelss? rims? trips? they are balck? and made of rubber.?? Fixed it : NO Stan. NO yous rims need balck tubelssv rubber trips. (but only the yellow tape with valve also worked for my training wheels)
  2. Hi IdeJongh why with the valve at the bottom ? Will this not improve the chance of the bomb causing the sealant to form a ball or blob of rubber ? (Sealant container actually suggests 'not' using a bomb - because of the freezing/solidifying effect causing the ball of rubber to form ?) I find rolling the tyre around first as you suggest, makes a mess with the stan sealant leaking all over the place ? (and I don't think I add too much sealant) ? Rolling the wheel seems to move the beads more to the centre - exactly where I don't want them ?
  3. Well, at least we know the world can't end today......Because its already tomorrow in Australia
  4. Hi Cbrunsdon - interesting thread - as I and many other also have the sinus thing, so also still searching for a proper solution. Are you an asthma sufferer ? or was this a indirect way for sinus solution ? What antihistamine do you take ? I take loratadine and pseudoephedrine (to narrow nasal blood vessels), but still not a good cure. Have tried 101 nasal sprays but never had success. So, I am interested to understand your medication better. i.e. maybe a stronger antihistamine required.
  5. Aw man ... though this was my kind of topic. Anyway - here are my best pot holes ... they have the best sh!t man.
  6. If I may comment on this - As I see it, the benefit of tubeless (MTB) is not less punctures, but lower pressures to give more grip (works for me). I can't see that road tubeless has much of a benefit - I add slime to the inner tubes for the ladies I assist (cause they useless at fixing punctures) so that is an option I think should work well for commuting ? Perhaps try a different slime - a thicker one with paper particles ? I agree with the safety comment previously given - I have had a slow flat on the front and before realizing it, came of around a corner ...broken collar bone etc. This weekend I had a wild slide around a corner, stopped to see if it was oil on the road, then noticed back was going flat. I would have come off for sure if it was a road tubeless. As you know we are all on the look-out for glass and cr@p in the road - but with you commuting, it is more difficult to dodge glass because of the passing traffic by your side, so slime/sludge the only solution I think.. (oh ya like the guys said Gatorskins...! )
  7. Yes, that is the shame, we were all great fans of Conti at the start of the tour - but he left a bad taste as we got to know him better. Obviously he is a great cyclist - and one will always wonder if that (most) doping really made that much difference considering his talent. Same with Floyd - remember how impressed and supportive we were after his magic stage - only to be let down and now there is no end to the bad taste he still revives
  8. .............. Next minute who will tell me that God walked on water like the guy said. .."Look mister, I don't care who you are, but nobody, NOBODY calms the sea when I am surfing"....
  9. remember the famous 'chain dropped' ?
  10. Yup, as they say in afrikaans of the taxi's - "dis die moer wat die stuurwiel vashou"
  11. he..he...he... no limit to the stupidity of (superstitious) mankind Eish, G is suppose to be the most magic super hero, but he decided to give no proof of his existence blah blah blah - just to make sure the followers would have to argue their butts off. Science on the other hand has proven a great deal - from the age of the earth to evolution etc. If these followers of religion (superstition - same thing) just had the balls to agree that if G is so great and in charge of it all then all the bad (murder, rape, kill) must also be his doing; - then we might (just slightly) have given them the benefit of doubt that they can think logically. But alas, with all the scientific proof (not belief - proof) it is obvious there is no point arguing with a superstitious person - they just can't think logically.
  12. Ja boet, I also thought PB did not work till I tried it. Down side is, every time my wife turns on the microwave oven, I p!ss in my pants.
  13. IMHO the BMI method can be deceiving :- example .. if you increase your muscle mass (without loss of fat) - your BMI will increase - So how do you know if your gym leg, core, etc strength training has produced more muscle - (or if you gained more fat from your recovery meals) ? One has to find a body fat % measurement that is easily accessibly. Skin fold caliper testing etc requires a trained expert - but Virgin Active gyms (and others) have machines to measure this (free to members) - I am lucky I have a fancy scale that does it for me. Of course measured weight reduction is the goal here - but I think reducing Body Fat % should also be a criteria (?)
  14. May I ask ..what is a kCal balance sheet ?
  15. Is there any difference on the stress placed on the hub or spokes on Disc vs Caliper brakes wheel. Can I replace the hub on a MTB wheel with a hub that can fit a disc brake without problems ? I assume the force/stress points on a caliper wheel is spread more equally - i.e. 1) at the bottom road contact point, 2) in the middle at the hub/axle and 3) at the top at the brake caliper point. Will the change in brake location - i.e. moving the brake friction point to the disc which is close to the hub/axle (bringing the two pressure/loaded point together) increase the stress on the rim and spokes - and thereby make the original rim and spokes unsuitable for a disc brake conversion ?
  16. Yup...just been trying that thing, and........got so many different views that I would like to hear the latest medical opinion. Some articles say it is ok in small quantities, others just say it is terrible. Looked at the manufacturer site and they suggest in use of less that 0.1% of volume its ok for human external contact ? - but I guess we should expect the manufacturers to say something like that ? Just found it will be an all day job to try and find an article I can trust as the final word - so I think the great wisdom of the hubbers will suffice ;-)
  17. Thanks BGS - many of us use this cream so would be nice to know the latest medical view.
  18. Looked at my almost empty jar of Mil-kreem and saw that Bronopol is included. As far as I recall, Bronopol (as a preservative) in human products (once used in shampoos etc) was banned due to the danger to humans. Yes I know Mil-kreem is for cow milking and was not designed for my 'spindle' but have been using it for years as a bum cream. Any Chemists out there who can clarify ?
  19. Place a table spoon of pool-chlorine in it over night - will sterilize and clean
  20. When da wind blows de road bike slows BUT my MTB goes and goes View from top of Hillcrest over the ocean was magic this morning. Wind blew me up Majik forest; teased me on Hillcrest and Kliprug track, and was in full assault climbing out of Contermans upto and out on the green route to vissers. Dats de beauty of MTB - when it rains snows or blows - the MTB goes.
  21. Hi MattyG - sorry to hear about the mistake you made with you MTB (!) bike. The quick solution to fix your new problem - see below.
  22. This a mtb ride ? (this is a mtb thread) If so, what route do you guys go - normal tar = wellingt, fisant, fruit sellers, joostenbrg, klamuts, backsberg, pniel ? or do you have an interesting dirt option ?
  23. Words:- Further to comments and examples above on 'context' being the regulator. context depends on the individual In my view, - jy dink soos 'n poeph... is just the same as saying - jy is a poeph.. etc. so suggestions were that ; 'K@k' is OK but 'Sh!t' is not ? 'Poeph.. OK but 'arseho..' is not ? etc. Does not make sense guys. Looks a bit like a language-chauvinist-race type thing ? It has become very common for english speakers to use afrikaans words - ..'k@k', 'poeph..' and the most used - don't be such a 'doo$... Somehow english speakers consider these term less offensive when used in an english phrase ? where as most afrikaaners would say the are vulgar or offensive words. Admin - moderator:- You can not have consistency when you have more than one moderator - unless the rules are very very specific. A jewish moderator my object to jesus and new testament type reference - a muslim my object to comments about booze and getting drunk, a woman may object to ... a man may object to ......... and so on blah blah blah. I personally object to threads with references to how good religion is - or avatars with 'jesus died for you' etc etc. But, I am I allowed to post opposing views - can I have an avatar that says 'god is not great' ? Probably not - but that is because different people are biased in different ways - one moderator thinks 'free speech' and will allow it while another will be biased and call it an insult to religion. The bottom line is :- i)The hub must be only cycling related and a direct reference to cycling must be evident in every thread ('insults' on characters or different views barred). OR ii) The hub Open section must be an OPEN forum. You can't have cake and eat it - if its Open - its Open - No Moderator should be able to judge or influence an item in the NCR OPEN chit chat. By creating an OPEN section - it can't be restricted - OPEN means OPEN (not half open in pietpompies' view) - Its like a Red light when you are on a bicycle - its not 50% green - it does not say 'Slow Down' Stop is Stop OPEN is OPEN
  24. Stewie...Stewie...Stewie.... Go big or go home - Just tell them the whole bike fell of your bum somewhere on the route.
  25. Got me thinking here ....I picked up some really sh!t tasting liquorice - (sorry not much left)
