  1. I've just witnessed it with 2 of my mates that recently bought bikes( 6 weeks ago), I warned them. Now he alreadly wants to upgrade this and that, and also looking at other bikes and accessories. There is a big jump in the bike when you go from a new 4k bike to a 7k bike, and will cost you far less in the long run(upgrades) I do understand people have budgets, but as you said, better to have the right bike from the beginning and don't set it too low. , it helps to enjoy it more. Nothing worse then slogging a heavy bike around.
  2. Why does everyone insist on saying buy something cheaper now and when the bug bites, get something better. Why not just buy right the first time? I understand he has a budget, but what does that count for when people are telling him the components are not great, the bike will be heavy, you will want to upgrade, blah blah blah. As someone else suggested buy the best bike you can afford now.
  3. Nope, not that I know of. Maybe they do . I was just wondering is all. It seems to be the most common answer from various other MTBing forums.
  4. Why you using riser bars and not a flat bar?
  5. I did use Squirt, doh. Just bhad to replace the bottle today cause I finished the last one lubing that chain
  6. Do you suggest letting it soak in some parrafin and scrub with a wire brush, or just a brush with hard bristles? When I'm taking the chain off, which I have to break and add a link, does it matter which way it goes back on( ie the chain direction)?
  7. It is fairly new, as is the chain. I've never had this happen to me from riding and driving around KZN.
  8. May as well sell it for scrap then, surely they shouldn't rust like that though. Must be something in the water in Cape Town?
  9. I used to ride with bar ends, took them off only because I like having my hands right on the ends of the bars for more control. I must say since I have taken them off my techinical riding has improved, but my hands get sore after a while
  10. Doh, make it go away. Does this happen often from riding in the Western Cape, or you taking the piss ?
  11. I got back from Cape Town yesterday to find that my XTR Cassette & Chain had rusted(surface rust) on the drive back, which I cannot understand, as I had washed and lubed the chain before I left. I did go through long periods of rain while driving back, so I can assume it was from this. My other bike was fine (XT chain & cassette), and was washed and lubed at the same time as the rusted chain & cassette Why would this happen and what can I do to sort it out? Will the rust keep coming back now that it has started once. I wash my bike and lube it religiously after every ride.
  12. Riding in the snow/cold is great, you get this frozen expression on your face. Put a light coating of vaseline on your face before you ride, I found it helped with the cold
  13. Just a small thing I've noticed, you can no longer see how long a person has been a Hubber for.
  14. Thanks for the reply , will see if I can do the IE 9, but I'm still using Windows XP Professional Is it not possible to get the upload, links & media function button as they used to be?
  15. Not sure why, but when I view the classifieds all the text has got some sort of code included (I'm using IE 8), not sure if my browser is the issue, or if its a setting I need to change somewhere I cannot seem to be able to load a picture, do I have to use the full editor, I read your reply to Drongo, but it does not seem to work for me or is it only on this thread I also cannot seem to reply to a specific post on thread, only the reply option at the bottom of the screen. The black side bars have disapeared today, so thats great Has the search function been upgraded, and possibly a few extra emoticons please? Is it also possible to be able to go straight to your last post when going back to a thread?
  16. I cannot see active topics, the scroll bar in the topic forum does not woRK correctly for me, I keep getting a red line and cannot scroll properly, also and not likeing the large black columns down the sides. Also how do you set the newest post or last post first on a thread
  17. Eish, how did the Taxi driver take to being pepper sprayed?

    G-Spot!

I found the G-Spot I will say this though, if you guys in the Western Cape think thats a G-spot, you need to ride at Karkloof(KZN), thats like the Playboy mansion of G-Spots. The trail was great there today, although did get hopelessly lost again and went arse over face trying to bunny hop a tree All in the name of a good time

    G-Spot!

I hope I can find the G-Spot, got a date tomorrow
  20. I had the same driving along the winding road to Jonkershoek, 3 MTBers riding abreast on a blind corner, the one guy over in my lane the oncoming lane, I had to swerve to avoid running straight over him, and this after seeing another 3 roadies riding three abreast all with no helmets, making passing motorists swerve into oncoming traffic. I've got no issues with riding with no helmet, just ride in single file within the yellow lines and you can chat when you have your coffee after.
  21. Yip, was hoping for something a little broader then "build trails"
  22. They already have, Beer/ Cup Holder (scroll down to Electra Cup Holder) just need to be careful not to spill
  23. Sorry for this being slightly off topic, but how does one go about becoming a trail builder/ contractor?
  24. I don't think it would be suitable for MTB looking at it now, not so much the strength of it, but rather where it's mounted.
